- It's been nearly 4 years since Animal Crossing: New Horizons came out, and it's time to revisit this game and relive and the great memories we made. I may have lost my island that I spend over a year working on, but that doesn't mean we can travel to OTHER islands and see what wild things await...

I remember when this game came out. It was during Covid, and being able to sit inside and play this all day amidst the chaotic world around us was great. The vibes were a great distraction

i know covid wasnt easy for many.. but man..ACNH just went in at the perfect time. It was my first AC and i got to know a lot of new friends whom were also constantly active as well because, we're all locked down lol! good times good times.

@@dagobahstudios3662 So for me I do agree with those complaints, for the most part, as someone who has played the older games. While I can see the improvements to New Horizons and see the great appeal in it, it is still hard to not miss stuff from the older games or the more witty responses the villagers gave.
That's not to say New Horizon sucks. To be honest it will be very hard for me to return to any older game other than New Leaf as I love the decoration you can do to your village way too much in New Horizons, and New Leaf has the best mix of older game enjoyment with creative output in my opinion. However there is also value in understanding the more honest complaints about a game are coming from a love for the series. Yes if someone is saying, "Why is anyone even playing this game dude?" Ignore them have your own fun. However the complaints towards New Horizons come from people who grew up on the older games and want to see the best in the series.
While New Horizons is great for giving you creative output in ways never before seen in an Animal Crossing game, the cost was what made the game fun to play on the day to day. My personal hope is that now they have created an Animal Crossing game with great creative freedom they can use that as a base and bring back in stuff from the older games that will enhance the entire experience of Animal Crossing. I miss the Main Street so much from New Leaf. Being able to see it evolve and grow in real time and have the stores expand and combine made me feel so exited to play and continue.
In New Leaf there was a total of 4 upgrades to the main store in the game that went; Nookling Junction, T&T Mart, Super T&T, T.I.Y. and finally T&T Emporium. In order of upgrades here are the requirements for each;
Nook Junction -> T&T Mart 12,000 bells spent 10 days having passed since you started and paying off your first mortgage, T&T Mart -> Super T&T 25,000 bells spent it being 10 days since the last upgrade and 10 days since the garden shop opened, Super T&T -> T.I.Y 50,000 bells spent and it being 21 days since the last upgrade, T.I.Y -> T&T Emporium 100,000 bells spent it being 30 days since the last upgrade and passing 4 fashion checks from Gracie.
This created a real sense of progression and made the game feel very alive as well as motivated you to figure out how to upgrade it next. Without time travel and with the best luck in the world it would take at minimum 75 days, or 2 months and 15 days (you need to add in an upgrading day for each upgrade).
Now in New Horizons you have Nook's Cranny which after 30 days of being built or a total of 200,000 bells being gained or spent and Mabel showing up once. It upgrades into a slightly bigger store, the name stays the same and it never upgrades again.
Now without time travel and the best luck in the world it takes 3 days for the first store to be made, then 4 more days for the final upgrade to be accessible. Because Mabel is a weekly showing vendor it's possible for her to show up the very next day after the first store "upgrade" as that is when she starts to show up on your island, and it's easy to spend/gain 200,000 bells meeting the requirements for the store to upgrade. Meaning it takes at minimum 7 days for you to get to the final upgrade of Nook's Cranny. (I could be slightly off as the wiki wasn't fully clear but to my understanding assuming everything lines up you can have the final upgrade of the store on the 7th day of your game)
Again I like New Horizon's and I'm sure they didn't like where they had to cut corners to make a better creative outlet for the game, but that is the type of stuff people miss and that is what people are complaining about. I'm enjoying New Horizons still and so should anyone who likes it. Never feel bad or upset about playing or doing something you like if it hurts no one. However again context is needed to understand that unless someone is shaming you for enjoying the game their criticism comes from love and a care for the series and they want to see it be better. Not only for them but for anyone new joining in.

I ended up buying New Leaf because everyone was saying how much better it was, but the old mechanics (villagers randomly leaving and not being able to control building placements) really hurt the experience for me. I like both games for different reasons. I understand the criticism, but half the time people act like there's nothing good about New Horizons. Yes, it lost a lot of things, but you can still enjoy it.
@@The_Dragon_Tiamat Fair, I can see where your coming from and it does seem very annoying to see features you loved from past entries get removed from the new one. I’m just annoyed with people whining about the new entry being bad while adding nothing to the conversation

I find it funny that after I had reset my island (albeit in late 2023), and recently re-gaining interest in the game, I find that the same has happened to Jay. Glad to see someone’s still playing lol
I still play almost daily. I took small breaks in between but I've played since the game came out I love it as an addition to the franchise. I still go back to the older games every so often, but NH is special no matter what others say.

I still play this game every so often, just perpetually stuck in a loop of redecorating my island forever. I only play about once a week so it doesn’t get boring, even started a 2nd island lmao

This game has been a huge help for me ever since I started taking a break from smoking, I’ve been having a blast too. Back then I wasn’t really into slow games other than stardew valley really glad I came back.
I'd LOVE to see some more Animal Crossing videos from you, it was amazing to go back and be reminded of why we all were obsessed with this game a few years ago. You're always hilarious no matter what game you're playing, but Animal Crossing amplifies your amazing energy even further

I've been playing ACNH every day since May, just making goals for myself and keeping myself interested in it.
I played ACNH so many times during Covid and it brings back so many memories, when I watch ACHN videos. My sister mainly uses the Nintendo Switch (Since I have the PS4) so I plan on buying my own Switch (Animal Crossing Horizon bundle with the Switch lite) next month. I'm already looking forward to build a new island and experience the fun I once had again ☺️
I’ve still been playing ACNH to this day, doing the usual and happy home paradise as well. I occasionally trade in Nookazon if I get inspired to decorate or redecorate something, but I don’t have specific items. It doesn’t get boring for me; more so, it feels relaxing playing it every day. Honestly, I’m going to keep playing it until the next Animal Crossing game, whenever that is.
Seeing more ACNH content would be nice, especially since nowadays there’s little to no mention of it. Maybe I can get the opportunity to invite Jay to my island one day. If not, then at least I can enjoy the content.

I popped this game in on a whim back in September/January because it had been cold and rainy where I lived for like a month straight and my mental health was in the toilet as a result. Just spending the evening picking weeds all over my island seemed to reset my brain chemicals. I ended up resetting because building the island is half the fun for me, and I've been taking it nice and slow so I can hopefully have this for a good little while
I finally got a chance to play this game a few months ago (and friend of mine bought it for me so we could hang out since she's in another state) I see how it got so big during the lockdown but I had NO IDEA how big the community was and still is
Damn it makes me feel so nostaligic already.

would absolutely love to see more acnh streams and videos from you. i recently got back into it myself so seeing others showing interest in the game again lately has been fun. i know nintendo said they're done updating the game but i hope they do one last big one for fun before the next console like they did with new leaf. or we get a new animal crossing when the next console launches.

I was a little late to the ACNH party. I got mine in like late December 2022/early January 2023, I can’t remember. Most, if not all, of my friends who played it during covid had stopped. My only regret is that I didn’t pull the trigger and buy a switch back in like 2020. I hadn’t TRULY played an AC game since wild world back on the switch, but MAN it took me back

It’s legit the most calmful and relaxing experience of gaming I’ve ever played, have it on the switch oled and it’s a solid 9/10 for me
I'm actively doing another playthrough and it is mad fun.
It’s good, but it’s lost in a storm of so many better games, like its older brother, New Leaf.
The release of this game was perfectly timed. Really calmed me down during Covid, and my horrendous neighbors who were driving me insane. I don’t think I could ever go back to it though. It served its purpose.

ACNH is the game that got me through the pandemic, it has many flaws and might not even be the best AC game, but it’ll always be one of my all time favorites.

I got sudden whiplash of nostalgia watching this. As bad as 2020 COVID was, I do have fond memories of playing this game.
I’ve been telling everybody lately that it’s time for a new animal crossing game. Stuff sucks irl and I miss watching the sunrise in acnh and real life at the same time.
I'd love more of this, whether it's exploring more viewer islands or building up your own, I just want more nice AC content from Jay

I decided to reset my island and I’ve been playing fresh this year. I ended up messing up my island REALLY badly in my first save, and this new save has been so satisfying.

As for more AC content, I’d love more videos! I think it would be funny to have chat send in codes for custom clothes they made for you to try, because some of the designs people make are a bit unhinged (but in a funny way! …most of the time-)

i’m so late to this game. i couldn’t afford a switch during the pandemic and i wish i played it during the initial hype.
I feel the reason that ACNH is on the down slide, is because Nintendo allowed it to. They should have kept it up. I stopped playing cuz I took to the stars for No Man's Sky. They kept that up with constant free updates, improving quality of life, missions, & my favorite base building. If Nintendo kept up with updating the game, I felt I would have kept up with the game. I don't know if they have plans to drop a new AC game, but if they do, I'll get it. So until that day happens, you'll find me in the Euclid galaxy building another mansion. Then posting to my YT channel for posterity.😅
i actually started playing it this year too after getting back into city folk and new leaf 😭😭 the game is pretty good but i wish we got better updates like more upgrades to nooks cranny and more things to do 😭 like adding paradise planning was a good choice but besides that, i wish there was a main street like there was in cf and nl 😭
I mean, isn't Harv's Island kinda the "Main Street" of New Horizons? Its basically a hub for shops that can't be built on your island. Though, its vibes are different from previous hubs. Instead of a busy city/town vibe, its more of a chill camp vibe.

Similarly I sold my switch cuz unemployment moment lol, so I’m playing New Leaf on my Android, scratches the itch and got me back into AC.
