Johnny is our medical and dental tourism GURU. It's hard to navigate all the internet information about medical and dental tourism, as the options seem limitless. Can you pick a good doctor and facility in Costa Rica or Mexico? Yes, you can do it yourself which may have a little luck involved but Johnny knows can cut through all the crap because he knows the good doctors, bad doctors, who has malpractice insurance and who doesn't, who uses the latest equipment or who seems to being using outdated machines and where is that particular service or specialty cheaper? For example, CIMA is the hospital that many gringos know but there are a few other hospitals just as top-notch as CIMA and are probably at least a little cheaper. Johnny knows this. Do you need someone to hold your hand or just a little help getting acclimated in another country? Want to combine your 'medical tourism' with a day of ziplining or a night at the hotsprings? Now that's a great deal. Oh, and quality work. I got my braces off last year and couldn't be happier. Costa Rica and Mexico are two of the top destinations in the world for Medical Tourism. Health Tourism in Costa Rica and Mexico are cheaper (not always the cheapest), but with superb quality outcome, excellent patient care, top-notch doctors and nurses and the latest technology and equipment and not to mention one of the most beautiful locations to recover in, all make Costa Rica AND Mexico popular destinations. And the fact is, it is usually quite cheaper for most things than it is in the United States 50%-70% cheaper. Just being as cost effective as it is, makes Costa Rica a top medical tourism destination. Just FYI- the most popular 'tourism' in Costa Rica and Mexico for that matter is Dental Tourism- implants, cosmetic dentistry, caps, veneers, braces, teeth cleaning etc.

Both my wife and I had top and bottom dental implants done in Costa Rica. We used Johnny and we had a wonderful experience. Hi could you mention the name of the dental office and dentist please
My husband did about 3 months worth of dental and oral surgery in Guadalajara in 10 days including removal of 5 caps and replacement with Zirconia implants, removal of impacted encrusted wisdom tooth, removal of a botched route canal done in the US and post implanted, bone restoration, 5 filings, envisaline, etc which would have cost at least $35,000 in the US. He priced with a cheap dentist in Rio Claro (my husband's home town) he'd been to before and another dentist in San Jose and it would have cost in the range of $8000 to $12000. He got it done in Guadalajara for $2500. The surgeon's, who did his lipoescultura in Pavas 5 years ago, wife recommended her sister in Guadalajara to do ongoing botox etc, who then recommended her sister-in-law to do the dentistry and she coordinated the oral surgery and orthodontists through her office. The results are fantastic. Great work. He'll be back to Guadalajara in February to finish the work.

Good and bad experiences happen all over. I had a horrible dental job in the USA years ago and I had it fixed with a private dentist. In CR I just use the social security app, set up an appointment and get my 6-month dental checkup and cleaning in a heartbeat.

you just said it...CR is more expensive and further to travel. I prefer the sunshine in Mexico to cloud cover in CR.
Oh and be polite and don't interrupt when your question is being answered. He appears to be the expert after all.

I've had dental done in Mexico and I guarantee that what had done would cost way way more in Costa Rica,,, Mexico is humongous and they have great quality service and like everything money talks but if you have it they take care of you the same day without having to wait months to be seen, Costa Rica is small so there's less medical people and maybe that's why they charge so much and you don't always get what you pay for , you mentioned $10k in Costa Rica well with half or even less I can gold teeth all the way around, tourist area are always going to bump up prices way more then a local town ,, imo Mexico is the way to go...
Good video! I am one of the super rare U.S. citizens who have traveled to both San Jose, Costa Rica (Cavallini International Dental) and a few international dental clinics in Mexico for myself, wife and daughter. BOTH countries blow the United States out of the water on price, quality, and bedside manner. I honestly cannot complain about either as their standards are SO MUCH higher than the U.S. or Canada. But, our experience has been that Costa Rican dentists do not understand that you may want to enjoy your vacation as well so keeping appt. times and schedules is important to travelers with money. Mexican dentists do seem more aware of this and are much more conscious that our time is money.
Basically, don't use tripadvisor to find a surgeon. Pura Vida 🤙🏾
I probably know a dozen people that either went to Costa Rica or Mexico for dental. I’ve never heard horror stories from either place from them. My dentist says he hears them all the time but the guy is a salesman and he tells me horror stories of his office neighbors so I don’t believe much of that. I love both countries and wouldn’t hesitate getting work done either place

We've had great experience with dental work in Costa Rica. Incredibly cheaper and better service than up north.

Maybe explain that a little further if you could....
Sure. I need a hip replacement as the result of too much sport activity. I also need a knee replacement. I tried to use stem cells to obviate or make unnessary the full joint replacement. The doctor knew the procedure would not work and unlike America in doctors felt no duty to solve the problem. I am a lawyer by profession. I have a huge duty to the people I interact with. The doctor I interacted with and performed the procedure did not speak to me once after the operation. I felt deceived and ripped off. It was a blow to my faith in doctors. I choose doctors in America. It is a question of honesty , trust and confidence.
So many variables no matter if getting dental/medical treatments abroad or in U.S. I find these videos and/or recommendations from fellow expats has worked best for me.
@@markminister2599 Yes, that does suck and totally understand your position. I do not say this flippantly or trying to promote as such but this is the reason I USE Johnny. He vets the doctors and the hospitals because for every great doctor here, there's probably 10 seeking to separate you from your money with little care of the outcome. To me, yours is a cautionary tale and folks should take notice.

From my research I feel partial to Guadalajara. How can Costa Rica compare when it's such a small country??
How do people weigh the comparative assessment of Mexico versus Costa Rica for medical tourism given the reality of the cartels, water shortage, etc. in Mexico, which doesn't exist in Costa Rica or Panama? There are many locations in Mexico besides Tijuana, such as Monterrey, CDMX, Guadalajara etc.
