- Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley is a console game which relies on musical themes and features Moominvalley’s rebellious vagabond as the protagonist.
When composer Kjartan Sveinsson from Sigur Rós first heard about the possibility of featuring the band’s music on the game soundtrack, he was hesitant: what music could possibly do Moominvalley justice? Yet he couldn’t say no - providing music for a Moomin game was a “no-brainer” for the band.
In this video interview, Kjartan Sveinsson shares how he discovered the Moomins and what he thinks about Tove Jansson’s description of the challenges of composing music.

As a Moomin fan, it's crazy seeing someone say that they don't hear much music when they think of Moominvalley, since music has been such a huge aspect of the series from the very beginning; in the novels where the characters play instruments and sing ditties, all the songs Tove herself wrote with Erna Tauro (the TV series and the stage shows and the opera...), all the songs and scores and music others have composed in the years since for the animations or the brand in some other way... Moominvalley has always been very musical to me. But I suppose it's different for an actual professional musician lol, I hope working on the game helped him hear the music in the valley now! 💖

I grew up with Mumins, thanks to my Finnish aunt who actually knew Tove Jansson, so she would send me all sorts of Mumin stuff. I was in America, so I assumed everyone knew about Mumins.
Now, seeing this game come out, and playing it, it really brings back the Mumin stories to me. Parents, get your kids to know the Mumins!

I've never heard of this game before. This is utterly delightful. Every time he said "Snufkin", "Moomin", or "Moominvalley" in his Icelandic accent it made me smile and I don't even know why. This is just so... Sigur Rós.

Oh wow how exciting! I was just thinking the other day how cool it would be if there was a moomin game and now there is! It looks so beautiful and i love the concept of trying to bring harmony to nature. Also. Sigur ros are the perfect collaboration with this project! My wife is a composer herself. She has exacly he same problems. Sometimes, she gets up at 5 o'clock in the morning and plays a new piece or writes something down. Or if you leave her alone for an hour at a nice spot, you'll return and a new poem came to her mind.
