Mourners attend funeral of Southport victim Alice da Silva Aguiar

- The funeral has taken place today of 9 year old Alice da Silva Aguiar who died in the Southport attacks.

Crowds lined the streets as the procession made it's way through to St Patrick's Church to allow the community to say one final goodbye. Alice died in the attacks that also took the lives of Bebe King, 6, and Elsie Stancombe, 7 on the 29th July, the aftermath of which saw a wave of violent rioting across England and Northern Ireland. From Southport, Jane Dodge reports.

Just going to a holiday dance club and being attacked is heartbreaking. Those poor children, the people who did their best to protect them and then learning siblings witnessed their murders. Heartbreaking.

@@raftt8050 Fair enough. It depends what 'action' you want. Ultimately, we need to look into how to stop something like this ever happening again, but I feel that can only come after we know why this happened. Whether we ever will, who knows.

I have been teaching ballet, tap, modern, contemporary, to children from kids of 3 up to ***ty-three all my life. Kids who love dance are amongst the brightest and kindest, in these over 40 years of experience.
Here in Spain where I've lived for many years, we had one of our pupils murdered by her adoptive parents, back in 2013. Apart from how horrible it all was, those who were very close to her have never got over it. And we won't. We've learned to live with it. The killing of these little dance pupils just brought it all back in a wave of shock. Thoughts with their families.
The ballet shoes broke me, too. I have videos and photos of my granddaughter's ballet class. She lives in Bavaria and is 7 years old in 5 days. They look so very sweet, fragile, and focused.
None of the children stood a chance against their savage attacker.
I doubt we will ever forget this unbelievable tragedy.
Heaven has 3 beautiful new Angels...Condolences to the families and friends left behind x

I am a European immigrant. European Christians (Catholic specifically like Italians Portugueses Irish etc ) NEVER posed a threat to the community. Either in miserable conditions or in more favourable conditions.
The riots didn’t happen because of the killing of the 3 girls but because there is a deeper problem of insecurity linked to mass immigration.
You had immigrant parents so you chose the Labour fight because you were aware of the difficult situations immigrants have to go through. You developed a different level of empathy and sensitivity.
But here the whole thing is about a specific type of immigration (Islamic/muslim) which is creating problems in so many countries. Unfortunately the rumours about the attacker were erroneously spread (that he was a Muslim) and people, already tired with the Pakistani gangs and islamisation of the UK, blew up. It’s almost babies we are talking about. People blew up.
