For me this process it's quite different. When I change and evolve in my spiritual practice, I don't acquire new decks to support this practice, instead I seem to discover new layers in my trusty old decks. For instance my Rider Waite is my personal growth deck, my shadow deck, my devotional deck etc. Of course I buy a new deck now and then to spice things up but The RW and the Thoth are my spiritual tools for almost everything.

I think that is the most important thing to deeply know and love the decks you are working with and I think it is a natural thing that the more you work in your practice you come to know how you like to read and what suits you. I think everyone should come from this perspective because you are the one who is connecting to a certain deck and finding how it meanings work for you and apply to your life and your reading style. Each and every deck I bring in I am so discerning about because I want them to be decks that are most aligned with who I am. I see pretty decks all the time, but I know I can appreciate the art work or it's theme, but clearly know most likely it is not for me. Really what it comes down for me is working with decks on a deep level is part of myself spiritual practice, my connection to what is beyond myself, a guide and tool and That's what I love about my decks. Is they are chosen so carefully, they are a gift and I always welcome the new ones in and give thanks. On the other side of that how ever someone wants to work with decks or for what or how they use it is their own relationship and no one person's practice of connections to decks will look the same.

It seems natural and beautiful to evolve our spiritual practices and the tools that support them. Although I have a small collection, I’ve already seen changes in what I’m attracted to and want to work with. Some decks have had to go because something in me has shifted. Other decks stay because I can see new layers within them or how I work with them can evolve. Decks that have that kind of depth and flexibility tend to attract me. Thanks for sharing this POV!

Thank you for this video! It's sad how people don't understand the concept of creating the void....without a void nothing new can come into the space. And it's the new that creates the growth. The negativity and guilt around decluttering, purging or whatever you want to call it makes me frustrated and I really wish the "trend" going around about it would stop. There is nothing wrong with evolving and changing....umm, that's what we all strive to do in our lives. Tarot is part of that. And you have addressed this point perfectly!

Im so glad you have brought this topic to light as i was feeling discouraged by so many 'decluttering' videos. I was feeling like we purchase and there is an expectation to discard what we are not using. But you raise a very good point that they no longer serve the space they once did. I am not at a place to let go of any as i feel they all have an important lesson to teach me in my life at the moment.

I still have tons of decks (over 200) so it definitely not about trying to make my collection a certain size. It's about working with decks that resonate with me. While I think decluttering happens to be a trend right now, it's certainly not a requirement for a well rounded tarot practice. I know tons of people who never declutter decks and they have both a beautiful collection and a beautiful practice. 🙂 Thank you for watching. ❤️

I completely agree that as we grow, so should our tarot practice! I personally align with the term “declutter” because all the extra decks that are out of alignment from me, feel like extra noice and physical clutter in my space. They get in the way of what I actually want/need to work with. But I get what you mean about it not feeling like clutter to you.

So on point... You clearly explained what happened to me. I had a situation a year ago where I had to "declutter" my entire collection because I no longer resonated with the decks I owned... and I couldn't explain why other than by saying I had moved on. I think I kept only 2 decks that I am currently keeping in my collection but don't use anymore. A few months ago, as I began a new season in my life (and a profound transition) I had the urge to look at decks again but, this time, from a different perspective. Now, I'm way more conscious about the decks I choose to welcome in. I'm looking for decks that I feel will support my growth and my transition to a path that is more aligned with my soul and my inner child (for now, I'm crushing on decks that help me ground and deepen my connection to Earth as well as help me go deeper within in order to activate portals of understanding.) I think I bought 15 decks in just a few months because they were calling me!! I love how you expressed your surrender when it comes to welcoming a new deck and letting it go. I also love how you explained your process and I totally resonate with it. For me, tarot is like having a conversation with the spaces of expansion and deeper understanding that I want to experience and I feel I need different decks to support this exploration. Loved it!

This was really interesting to watch because I've been feeling that way too. There's a specific deck that worked wonders for me when I got it, but I recently have moved towards other practices, and I haven't been using it. The other day I grabbed it, looked through it and there was... nothing. So I decided to rehome it, a deck I never thought I would. But I prefer to have decks that speak different to me instead of various similar ones. Great video, Dawn Michelle!

This was an interesting chit chat!
My tarot practice changes a lot in short spans of times so I can't relate to your experiences as I like to shift a lot at random days, weeks or months so I'm never outgrown with the decks I established in my practice. There's always time for this deck and that deck and so on! Sure I decluttered decks but that's because they never did anything for me, 😂. In the past few months, almost a year now, I'm conscious of what decks I buy and analyze these 500 new decks that are about to be released each year to see what can come close of what I already have. Therefore, the decks I have now are the standards of whatever new decks are being published, kickstarted, self-published, etc...

I'm with you on the collage decks. I'm not sure why I like them so much; maybe because they more closely resemble the fractured, jumbled images/symbols that often crop up in dreams, and thus feel like a more direct conduit to the subconscious? Also I'm very picky about representational art, especially when it comes to images of people - if they're are anatomically not quite right, or the perspective or lighting is "off" in some way, it pulls me out of the reading. Collage decks don't have these problems because a) the people are from either old photos or "classical" art, and b) they make no pretensions towards realism.

I still haven't found a new relationship dynamic with the cards. It feels odd, like old friends that became strangers. Great conversation. Yes, our practice has to evolve or it will get muddy and stagnant. At first all I could think was...yay...Saki saki, maybe I can hop on that deck (I've been wanting since before it went oop) but I'm on a no-buy and there's just no way I can allow myself to undo what I have worked so hard to do for the last 3 months. I was just thinking about how being on a no-buy has forced me to look at books and decks that were gathering dust. (shame on me) I also have stuck with my #only10decksforlent challenge, and THAT has been hard. I realized one of the decks I chose is not gonna stay, one is way cooler than I thought, and even the ones I am dying to pick up, but have not - are so useful and cherished...I know now, that they really do have a place and purpose!

Personally, I believe that everyone should do their own thing in all ways - if it suits you & hurts no one... I agree, I felt that way about tarotube as well. I started out reading with Marseille Tarot decks and indie decks, and so many youtubers insisted that I was doing it wrong because I "have to start with the Raider Waite Smith" because it's supposedly superior. I just don't resonate with the RWS art. I prefer either ancient Marseille or newer indie decks. I find Marseille numerology an easier way to read tarot, and I didn't like the "memorize paragraphs of meaning and look for super specific symbols" approach many people seemed to be suggesting for RWS. Not to mention when people can't find those symbols in indie decks, they start claiming that the deck is "bad" or "unreadable" or that the artist's chosen symbols are "just there to look cool."

I agree, Deb, the recent spate of declutter videos just serve to make me feel bad (almost didn't watch this one), like I"m not as evolved as I'm "supposed" to be and should be getting rid of a bunch of decks (which is not going to happen). I know that's not Dawn Michelle's point here, she explained herself well, but decluttering videos remind me of my ex who would take my kids' old XBox games down to Game Stop to trade in for cents on the dollar, which they would then want to play again a week later. I'm too much of a flibbertigibbet and am constantly re-discovering decks and going to new depths with them. The last decluttering Comment section I dared to say this in, I got yelled at by the video creator for being "defensive", so whatever.. Like you said - "if it suits you & hurts no one"...

Hi sorry this question is off topic but, did you make those tarot pouches or did you buy them? I want to make my own pouches but with a simple pattern. So am interested if you made these and if so how? Thanks ❤️

I do make my own, there is a video on my channel that shows the basic "pattern" for mine. If you just search "homemade bag" on my channel it should come up. Thank you for watching. ❤️

This is exactly the spirit of the "Death" card.

    We’re you trained using Thoth?

The more I learn about Thoth, I think I was taught using a mixture of both systems. I was originally taught by a friend many years ago who learned from her family. I'm hoping to do some videos on it soon. Thank you for watching. ❤️
