the 2 day scheduling thing is standard practise with most independant people, like therapists
so they can reschedule the date for someone else
at least that's the official idea behind it
it's also so they don't go bankrupt if a bunch of people randomly cancel their appointments a few minutes before or simply don't show up
the high price Kronster talked about is a different issue, but makes this policy more painful in her case

Its fine but then its 49 hrs notice and they tell you that the contract says 48 hrs notice not 49 so you still have to pay. That part is nonsense

Private lessons for ~$100 isn't that bad of a rate. Most private teachers that operate like such prefer a consistent schedule of student times so I could empathize with the mutual frustration between the two.
