  • Long COVID-19 occurs in approximately a third of COVID-19 survivors and is now the third-leading neurologic disorder in the United States. In May 2020, during the early months of the pandemic, Northwestern Medicine physicians identified this growing trend and established the Northwestern Medicine Comprehensive COVID-19 Center, one of the first centers in the United States dedicated to treating patients with lingering impacts of the virus.
More than three years later, the need for long COVID-19 care remains. To date, Northwestern Medicine has treated nearly 4,000 patients from 44 states, and our team of 42 clinicians continues to see approximately 100 patients each month. Here, Igor J. Koralnik, MD, chief of Neuroinfectious Diseases and Global Neurology and co-director of the Comprehensive COVID-19 Center, shares what the team has learned.
