@@fashionovawigsit's a common issue with extremism, the solution to these problems is fiding a balance, not doing the exact opposite to prevent what you went through
After playing evil play through in baldur’s gate 3, I just wanna see uncle iroh, stab zuko to death in this scene and go off to kill his brother and take then throne, then the ending would be iroh the fire lord sitting on the throne saying “In my name” 😂
If Zuko truly learned anything from Iroh, he should know that operating in extremes is a flawed philosophy. Being overly soft has just as many issues as being overly harsh, even if said problems manifest in different ways. Balance is key to all parts of life, and as such, I doubt a mature Zuko would be one to just go "don't be like dad" with no deeper thought. This isn't to say Ozai wasn't a terrible father, but Zuko should ponder what made his father a failure instead of mindlessly assuming everything he did was a factor to his downfall.
@@vampireprince6730 Even though she wasn’t there for him when he would have needed her the most, she still started him off with her love. Not throwing shade since it wasn’t her fault. The comics did her justice, too.
I think Iroh is really just half of the story. Yes, Iroh’s limitless wisdom and knowledge was the sole reason Zuko even considered redemption, but Ozai is also important to Zuko’s parenting. Ozai was the worst father, and there are only a few examples of worse. Children with bad parents can grow up to learn from their parents’ mistakes. So it just isn’t a surprise that Zuko is just a good father, considering he’s seen the best & worst parenting of the nation.
@@5uspicious_Person I'd say "Iroh gave Zuko enough wisdom to be capable of learning from his father's mistakes". You can't effectively learn from your parents mistakes if that's the only way of life you've ever seen, but see the other side once and suddenly all the mistakes become a nigh limitless pile of valuable lessons
Aang was an Air nomad, they were surrendered as infants and raised by their community elders which is totally non conducive to being a good parent in traditional family structure. Also he was definitely trying to cultivate the last Airbender (Tenzin) to be able to train the next Avatar
@@Derthlin but he also was an avatar, how many avatars have children?? When he became an adult he didn't have anyone to learn from. Plus, he still had responsibilities to the other nations that were forming/building. Lastly, didn't he die in his late 40s because of him being in the avatar state for 100 years? Listen aang wasn't a good parent but not because he didn't want to be but because he thought he was doing the best he could at time. Aang knew he was dying and had to train his son in the fast way possible.
@@Derthlin Aang is only a shitty parent by todays standards. Though Kai and Bumi felt neglected, they grew up to be great people who wanted to ensure the peace and prosperity that Aang Made would last. Tenzin who Aang focused on the most to continue their whole culture grew into a kind and wise leader. Aang is not and was not a shitty parent, he was just trying to do his best. His kids are great people all three of them.
That’s the thing though, Kaya was a water bender like Katara, Bumi had no bending abilities as far as they knew, Tenzin was in Aangs eyes the first airbender born in over 100 years. Spoiler warning…. Bumi later developed his air bending abilities in a later season of Legend of Korra
@@Derthlin he wasn’t a shitty father tho. He wasn’t great, but he always supported them in their endeavors while having to handle being the avatar, the leader of republic city and the resurrection of the air nomads
Spoiler for the comics, but He also found his mother again. So his daughter literally had a loving grandma, a step-grandfather and half-aunt in addition to loving parents. Also, the Firelord isn't AS irreplacable as the Avatar, so if she had an issue he could probably let his counsil handle government affairs for a few weeks to spend time with his daughter.

@@mkat8505 Ursla did everything for both azula and zuko, to bad he was married to a fucking physco and the only way to save his son was to leave. Still i dont share what she did in the cómics with all the face change and her forgeting the past.
@@hernan6205The reason she left was because she helped to stage a coup d'etat, which yes, was to save her son, but saying she left for the sole purpose to save her son is miscommunication. She poisoned Azulan as per Ozais' suggestion because Azulan told him to kill Zuko after he made an advance on the claim to the throne. which ozai himself didn't care about, but ursla did. Then Ozai essentially threatened her by saying it was treason to do such a thing, and considering he was firelord at the time she would either be executed or banished.

Ozai put the condition she had to leave afraid he would use the same poison against him later ( i dont get why he didnt put her under vigilance or kill her). She pleaded to take both azula and zuko, but ozai wanted to keep them as a bargain chip. We all loved and praised uncle iroh for not only teaching Zuko but helping the entire team in all their hardships being one of the best figures to look up to and want to become
To be fair on aang’s part he did grow up without a father so most likely didn’t know how to be one plus with tenzin being an airbender aang wanted to make sure he passed town the monks teachings to him. I’m not saying what he did was right but from how his other two kids talk about him in the show and comics he still showed them love. Wasn’t a bad dad just a flawed one.
He wasn't the greatest father, but he was a great mentor for an air nomad. He focused more on his culture than his connection to his family it seems and his family suffered from it. He was a bad father, but not a bad person
@@ethanmorrison7021 for me to be a bad dad he would’ve had to be awful to his own kids. From the show theirs not an indication of that (to my knowledge) and they even understand the responsibilities he had. To me to be a bad dad u do horrible thing to your kids and I can’t recall them mentioning aang doing that . Like bumi talks Milo down from a position he was probably in with wanting to seek a father’s approval and it’s confirmed Aang supported his daughter when she came out.
Also many people theorise about ang wanted to teach all of his kid the air nomad way but they wasn't as interested as Tenzin. Its from the line when Kaya said "I cant remember the gurus that much" or something like that. And when he take Tenzin to the air nomad temple he would stop in the way back on those travel or fish surfing. He was still goofy and Bumi is goofy too also Kaya has some too. And we know andg did his little trick at s4 so she was still playful. His only "bad" trait to Tenzin he was a mentor too. He have to teach him all of his culture because he is might be the last air nomad after Aang.
I see the not having parents thing used to excuse Aang a lot, but that's a slap in the face to people who grow up without parents and learn to become great parents. Aang had a golden child and that's messed up. He spent time teaching Tenzin his air nomad ways and I think in some respects by putting that kind of pressure on Tenzin to carry the weight of an entire culture on his shoulder was messed up too. You could see it gave him a failure complex. I get frustrated with Aang about this as well because Aang does have experience with the pressures of responsibility and he put that kind of weight all on the shoulders of his son. Aang did spend quality time with Tenzin as well though like building sand castles and mundane non-bender things he could have done with Bumi and Kya. The fact that they have no positive memories to pull from and just a legacy speaks volumes about Aang's neglect of his eldest two. Not having parents isn't an excuse, if he could do the quality time stuff with Tenzin he could do it for his other kids. Also Katara did have parents so she knew what parental love was supposed to look like and never put her foot down on Aang's behavior. Aang wasn't an abusive parent, but if his eldest two have no memories of quality time then he was absolutely an absentee father and that is bad parenting, not flawed, let's not sugar coat it. Neglecting your oldest two, making your youngest the golden child, putting the weight of a culture on a child, not creating core memories by spending the same quality time with all of your children. If it wasn't Aang but a normal person this would be bad parenting. Let's call a spade a spade.
Read the comics, you'll see that Ursa was in an ordinary family with her old love and daughter, but with a different face. This happened after 2 years of the main story. "The search" the title of the comic. Even Jinora ( Aang's eldest granddaughter ) asked Katara what happened to Ursa.
And plus with only one child he was able to focus all his attention on her. Not that having more children is a bad thing but I could see how it might be difficult to divide your attention equally and effectively.
Yeah, her marriage was horrible. And in the clips, we saw she was kind to zuko and tried to correct azula. But she played chicken with zuko life and chose to forget zuko and azula. Noble is perfect, but she also taught him what not to do as a parent, in my opinion.
@@BaronRodney It is worse to have one. If his daughter died ther would be no heir and Civil war would erupt. He doesnt have brothers nor they have heirs.

@@mkat8505 Nah, willingly choosing to erase your memories of your children because it would be too painful to remember them is messed up. No excuse in the world was good enough to justify that decision.
While the others had physically absent or emotionally distant parents/parental figures, Zuko had an awful father to learn how deep the damage a parent can do and some prime “what not to do,” but he also had the best father figure to learn the power of an unwavering support system for a child, when to take a step back and let them make their own mistakes to learn from while still being there for them, and when to raise your voice (but never your hand (or fire)) to stop them before they make the kind of mistakes they can’t take back, and most importantly, how to be a model of love and forgiveness and a base for personal growth. (I’m sorry, I’m having a lot of emotions about Iroh right now 😂)
Iroh saw Zuko needing a father as much as he needed a son (his died). I feel he put all of his time and wisdom into helping Zuko become a better person than his father the Fire Lord or crazy sister.

@frenchtxny I would say Anng still loved the other two but he favors Tenzin a lot more since he felt he could relate to him due to his air prowess. But even while saying that he did kind of neglect his kids even of he still loved them.
@@nowyouseeme5926 His mother didn't leave when he was a toddler though. He and Azula were clearly tweens in the flashbacks. So she had plenty of time to show him what a loving parent looks like.
@sxatcychan1988 nope they just look older than they actually are. Zuko was 13 when he was banished. He looks significantly older in the age 13 scenes than the one with his mother. We can meet half way and say he was around 7 years old. On top of that it was only his mom as his dad didn't really show interest in zuko at all
Iroh would’ve never forgiven himself for not taking zuko back into his life, he lost his son to his reckless actions and saw his nephew had essentially lost his father and took on that role as a way to redeem himself.
Aang had no idea of parenthood so he just tried his best. Toph knew what not to do because of her parents but didnt know what to do. Zuko knew what not to do because of ozai and knew what to do because of iroh
Iroh knew, when someone made a mistake. It’s easy to hate, it’s easy to be quick to anger. But! If the lesson had already been thought, and the person fully understands what they did. YOU HAVE TO FORGIVE. Forgiveness frees not only the hated but the hate from within.
I think forgiveness is a very sticky word. I don't even think forgiveness is a must under those circumstances. But I do think that it's important if you want to continue a relationship with that person and they meet all the forgiveness criteria
Okay but there’s a good theory about why Aang favored Tenzin. Kya and Bumi, while they were the children of an Airbender (and the avatar, at that), didn’t seem all too interested in airbending culture. Even as adults in LOK, we can see each of them actively not participate in activities. They even express how they weren’t all that interested in it as kids and how Katara may have understood. I think this is pretty plausible, as Aang would probably not take his children on trips they weren’t interested in if they weren’t going to really benefit from it. They only missed their dad and brother. They stood on the fact that they’d left without them in the show, but maybe they only realized that as adults. Then again, our amazing Avatar may have just had a flaw 🤷♀️
Just facts bro 😂 and if Aang would've still bring bumi, kya to those trips he would've still be called a bad father , Aang respected their wish and didn't bring them along cause just being a father is already hard but also trying to rebuild the air temple is hard, And about katara she just trusted aang with things thus she decided to not say anything and at the same time respect the wishes of their kida
I think that it helps that Zuko had an example of what not to do along with the guidance or Uncle Iroh while Aang had the responsibility of carrying the Air Nomads' legacy as hes literally the only one left while Katara may have not been the best parent has to respect the wishes of both Aang anf their kids
Personally I'd do the same as Aang. My culture is dying with very few culturally competent people and 1 language speaker.... If my children refused to learn about it but one did want to I'd probably favor teaching that one child because it's preserving our culture and identity.
Then why not take Kya to trips about her bending, or them to all 4 so they won't feel left out? He's the avatar, he knows the importance of understanding the ideologies of other nations, why didn't he pass that down to his kids? Don't get me wrong, aang was a good father, but he could have been better.
@@boogaloo4481 Aang knows how to waterbend but Katara is an actual genetic water bender from a water bending tribe it would be their mother's job to teach her about waterbending culture. Bumi was a non bender so he should've been chilling with sokka
Zuko had the rare opertunity to see both bad and good parenting and how it affected children. In particular him and his sister. This allowed him to decide the diffrence between good and bad, and know what must be done.
That scene when Uncle Iroh immediately hugged Zuko the moment he apologized and seeked forgiveness always got me tearing up. This is probably the one way most of us wish we could be forgiven if we did someone wrong and apologized sincerely for that. Forever one of the most powerful storytelling in fiction to have ever graced these mortal eyes of mine.
Zuko grew up during the series, hes probably the only character who became complete. Aang avoids most of his issues, Toph never adresses her parent issues, Katara never really has any flaws and doesnt really have to change. (Sokka does learn alot but most of his character flaws are his sexism and cockiness which get solved pretty quickly in season 1)
Wow... just, wow. Way to ignore pretty much everything about the show. Ignore how Aang slowly learns the resposibility of the Avatar while still remaining playful and loving. Katara has issues with anger and pride that she learns to temper, and Toph's parents is the least of her worries, but they are addressed in the comics at least.
The thing* about Aang as well is that he was raised by a village. First time considering this but he might have left the other two alone because in his mind they were being cared for by his wife while he cared for the future of his people, Tenzin. To him, not being cared for by specifically him would not have made a difference. Idk what Katara was thinking though. Maybe they fought about it but Aang couldn't fully get it and Katara decided that instead of trying to make him understand the normal family dynamic, she'd just focus her efforts on the other two kids. Or maybe she was equally as blind to this as Tenzin was.
Surely wasn't the case. You almost had it but Kya and Bumi were apathetic to the air Nomad culture so he just taught Tenzin everything he knew, traveling, etc. If Kya and Bumi were as interested as Tenzin he would have equally spent time with them as wirh Tenzin. He wasn't a bad father, Aang had a huge responsibility of restoring a whole nation and you can't expect him to do that alone. Plus, as the case may be, Tenzin became the only air bender and who's better equipped than Aang to teach his son?
@@Joshmirhez What? Kya and Bumi literally talk about how they felt neglected by their dad because he'd go off on trips without them. They wanted to be a part of everything but felt excluded. Bumi even elaborates on this, saying he never truly felt like he was a part of his dad's culture, but now that he has air bending skills, maybe he can be more included. It's a part of Tenzin's character arch, realizing that his father doted on him and failed to give the same attention to the others, and the others learning not to take out their issues with their dad on their little brother. I know you want to see Aang as a good dad, but you can't take away this very glaring flaw in his character. He was good to Tenzin but neglected his other children in his pursuit of restoring his culture simply because they weren't airbenders.
@Joshmirhez It's never a child's job to show interest in their culture..its the parents job to ensure their children know their culture regaurdless of if they want to or not. Kids who grow up in cultures outside their ethnic one will naturally push back and prioritize the culture of where they are growing up, so the parents need to work harder to instill the values and teach the history of their motherland to their kids. It's also important to remember that culture isn't just in long lectures..which is what it seems Bumi and Kya were disinterested in..its in food and holidays and music and art there are many ways to teach culture to your children. Also Aang himself didn't pay attention to the stories of his culture..in the comic with old Iron, he and Gyatso were playing around so Aang never learned the reason behind the Yang Chen festival..so his kids took after him in that regard. Aang could have included his other kids in their own culture in ways that wouldn't bore them but he didn't. Bumi himself states that he never felt like he was part of the air culture..that was his father's fault because he should have always felt a part of it regaurdless of his inability to bend.
@@Zazabazaadude, Aang was the avatar protector of the world, his free time was spent trying to teach his kids about his DEAD culture, only Tenzin cared it’s been stated several times that Kya and Bumi couldn’t care at the time, it was only when they grew they realized that time they could’ve spent with their Aang was wasted hence why they fault Tenzin because HE got to spend time with their father; if Aang forced his culture and things his kids clearly didn’t want to do he’d be just like the Air nomads who tried to force him to become the avatar at such a young age, that’s Aangs entire character - BEING FREE TO CHOOSE WHAT YOU WANT.

@Darwidx except they didn't just visit the air temples, they traveled all over the place. They were building sand castles onKyoshi island. This has nothing to do with being an Air Bender, this was just quality time.
Do you recall what Bumi and Kya said to Tenzin. "Classic airbending technique: always cutting and running when things get tough." That line speaks volumes about their relationship with Aang and Tenzin and the disconnect they have from that part of their culture. Maybe they weren't interested, but Aang didn't seem to go out of his way to make them feel included either. He was teaching Tenzin about the air nomad practices but he was also building sand castles on Kyoshi Island with him. Aang knew very well how to engage in fun, non-bender activities, he could have done so with Bumi, he could have engaged Kya in waterbending. Also putting the weight of an entire culture on Tenzin's shoulders while fully understanding what the pressure of being the Avatar did to him as a child was tone deaf. Tenzin is not without emotional damage. He is constantly worried about failure and living up to an impossible legacy. Let's call a spade a spade here, Aang was an absentee, negligent, tone deaf father. People call him flawed, this isn't a flaw, this is just bad parenting. He wasn't abusive , but he was still a bad father.
Actually, someone brought up an excellent point. Aang was trying to rebuild the air nation and was trying to teach all of his children. These great vacations were actually part of it and in the series, they discuss how much the disliked doing any of the things aang was teaching them. So its not that aang favored tenzin. Tenzin is the only one who actually enjoyed doing those things with their dad while his siblings outcasted themselves.
Zuko didn't just had the worst dad, he had the best father figure possible in his uncle. This, and his journey in the hunt of the avatar to becoming the avatar's ally, gave him the experience needed to become a good father.
I think it’s both. Zuko learned first from his father what a terrible father looks like, and then learned from Iroh what a good father looked like. He turned out the best father not just because of Iroh or Ozai, but because he’s been shown both perspectives.
That's not why he's a good parent though. He's good parent, because Iroh taught him what to do, and Ozai taught him what not to do. He has seen both examples of what is a good, and what is a bad parent. He knows exactly what to do to be a great parent.
I imagine Katara and Aang had more than a few arguments about it. Katara was always pretty adamant when it came to equality and fairness, but she’d also understand the pressure Aang felt, being the last air nomad (and the last decent Avatar).
And Zuko is the best character development in the show. From a villain to a savior, gradually the story unfolds in such a great way. Hope they can capture it in the live action. So far i give it 7 to the live action one
Honestly, I think Zuko became the best parent because he knows first hand the impact a parent can have on their child. He lost his mother, and his Dad was literally the big bad in Atla who scarred him and sent him to die trying to find the Avatar. Then comes his Uncle who never gave up on him and gave him life lessons and compassion. Going through this, it’s clear that Zuko would lean towards being like Iroh as he knows how showing a little love can go a long way. He even became a great firelord as well as his daughter
"Learned from his family not to have two children." This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You do not love your children less because there are more of them.
No he doesn't. Zuko never planned any birth control. It was by fate that he only get one child. Thats it. But of course since he only have a child he have much easier time to pay attention and spend more time with his daughter.
You literally didn't get it, if you actually paid attention to the fire nations history, they would always have two children with the siblings hating each other, iroh and ozai, and of course... Zuko and azula, zuko learned from that and their families mistake, so he decided not to repeat that mistake of making his children hate each other... By only having one child.
@lightningjadejavier Yes. That entire principle is stupid. Completely stupid. The idea that two siblings will always hate each other is stupid. It's actually superstition. I doubt the showrunners thought like this, and I definitely doubt Zuko thought like this. If Zuko made parenting decisions based on fear, that doesn't make him a good parent. That makes him a terrible parent.
Zuko’s mother gave him great love as well as his Uncle. Ang and Katara were traumatized from the instability in the world. Even Katara father was a little aloof. So they probably stayed really focused on developing one child because it was they who’d experienced the most trauma without a loving Uncle and mother to be in their lives at consistent key times
I think his abdication also highlights how much he differs from his father. he didn't feel the need to be in power for his entire life, that would have been a huge act to do, it shows his ability to relinquish power and give it to his daughter, it sets a huge example
Ang in my opinion wasn’t a bad dad. He dedicated his life to rebuild a lost culture and since one of his children showed more sign of passion towards his goal he took them along to lessen the burden. He isn’t necessarily bad just lacking
Zuko knew how to be a good parent because he saw how to be a horrible one. He knew what to do to LOVE and show love to his daughter. He had his uncle showing what a father should be, and how a father should act. With that info he was able to be a good parent.
The thing with Aang’s kids that nobody talks about is that only Tenzin was interested in learning about air nomad culture. Kya and Bumi constantly talk about how they didn’t care in the show. Those vacations weren’t just treats, they were lessons. Aang was the last air nomad and wanted so badly to rebuild them and had 2 out of three kids who didn’t care at all. Not the perfect father, but also Kya and Bumi weren’t great kids
I hate how people get mad at aang like he didnt give equal chances because aang offered to teach them all the air bending ways and only the air bender wanted the knowledge so aang didnt force it on his other kids

@@christianbeckles8992We wouldn't call them a bad parent (as in abusive), but they aren't a good parent either. To Tenzin it was amazing because he was actually interested, but not so much the other kids. Aang could've still brought them along and had them have fun in other aspects though, and be a more present father, as doing this can make the kids feel like Tenzin is obviously favored, brewing feelings of inequality and not good enough. So he has bad parenting moves, but just like a father working ALL the time and never spending time with their kids at all to make money and give them a comfortable life. Doesnt guarantee they're a BAD parent in the sense of an abusive one, but a very very flawed one who needs to change their god awful parenting techniques. So it depends on your definition of bad, most people think of it as abusive. But if you just think of it as parenting techniques, then yeah, Aang was a bad parent. But we also didnt confirm if Aang loved his children equally, and when he was not busy teaching religion or saving the world, he still loved his other kids equally when he finally got home. Which is the likely scenario, it's just being the last surviving member of your culture and religion, AND being the president of the entire planet kind of takes away too much time to create a ton of core memories with your kids. You wouldn't call the president of the United States a bad parent if he focused on teaching his interested kids Christianity as the LAST SURVIVING MEMBER OF CHRISTIANITY, while also focusing on his duties as the president, resulting in not a ton of time being able to be used. So even then, Aang wasn't a bad parent, he was a flawed parent. Which is understandable when he has that much responsibilities, jobs, and pressure. If anyone else was in his position of immense workload, no one would call them a bad parent for not spending equal time with all their kids. Even if that is terrible parenting technique.
Uncle Iroh was more than a father to him rather than his real father. He learned to be a great father from him, and he decided to have one child due to sibling rivalry
Aang didn’t neglect his kids. They didn’t like hanging with him or being with him. Only Tenzin liked being with his dad. Possibly because they both shared air bending and a love for rebuilding the nomad temples history. But to say he was a bad dad is a stretch when it’s stated in the cartoon why he hung with Tenzin more
Zuko became the best parent out of his friends, cause he had his father and sister look back on for what a father shouldn't do to their children, especially since Azula turned out...unstable is generous. And he learned from Iroh
Aang had no parents, katara and sokkas were gone or dead, tophs were overprotective and neglectful. Zukos mom and iroh were good parental figures, and ozai was...ozai. zukos the only one to have examples of good and bad parenting to learn from
Even though the Fire Lord was a terrible father to Zuko, he wasn’t actually his father. Uncle Iroh was his father. Iroh taught him how to follow himself and be a great leader to his people.
People who have bad parents, and recognize this as such, often fret over being the same, and in doing so, work the hardest to do better by their own children. Usually ending up being better than their own parents.
Aang plays favorite, Katara didn't mind or say anything, Toph doesn't get along with her daughters the show ruined them, but Zuko became a best father, & best parent, & they kept him right.
What's really wild is that Zuko was the only one that had an actual adult with him during his travels, the rest of team Avatar were raising themselves...er, Katara was raising team Avatar, and rarely if ever had a moment where she would be able to be the child. Sokka had moments, but those would come and go but he did shape up well after having his own teacher.
It's an uncle-shaped miracle that Zuko turned out as good as he did considering their family's history. He could've ended up as another Azula without Iroh
Zuko turned out the way he did due to the positive influences and teachings of both his mother, Ursa, and his paternal Uncle Iroh. They had very strong and good influences over that helped shape Zuko into the individual everyone knows and loves. They helped him grow into a better person most people are incapable of being.
Life experience. Out of all of them, Zuko was the only one who always wanted family more than anything. Most of his driving force is lead by the desire of being recognized by his father. If it was his choice to only have one children, I dunno, but it's true that his uncle taught him a lot, and he already came from a disjointed and disfunctional family. Aang never knew his parents (as far as I know, it seems the Air Nomads used to have children but they didn't actually told who birthed who, instead it feels from flashbacks and things we see in comics, that they just let the kids to grow up and be free, without those shackles), Katara and Sooka lived most of their lives alone without a father/mother figure, Toph hated the idea of family constraints; It's very interesting indeed.
There was also the fact that zuko was the only person who took the time to analyze why his parents were bad and see a middle ground whereas toph just went bad in the opposite direction compared to her parents.
I like that it shows that just because someone was a great person at ome point or in one aspect of their life, it doesnt guarantee them to continue being good in all those respects or even that there are just somethings that they sucked at and did badly, like parenting
I think that iroh was the good side of parenting not because of the loss of his son but thought of zuko as a son and I think that people who don't have there parents in there life or didnt have any does know how to treat there kids and I believe that aang and katara truly loved there kids but had other problems on there plate to truly bond with all 3 of there kids
I mean Aang also had an entire culture on his hands and being the avatar. Tenzin was the only airbender so Aang had to teach him everything he knew. It’s just I’m sure between Kaya and Bumi, she got more attention from Katara because she’s a water bender. From what we’ve seen of Zukos childhood, he had more opportunity to be with his family
Bumi is shown to be extremely inattentive during airbending training, and judging by tenzin’s misremembering of his siblings presence during vacations they were probably welcome on the trips they just didn’t go.
I assumed aang's was because in his culture children are raised by the community and 'parenting' is being an instructor/guide. Leaving two kids that didnt want to learn with the rest of the family likely seemed perfectly normal to him.
Zuko did have a dad. Ozai may have been his father but Iroh was his dad. Iroh was a positive parental figure in his life and helped shape him into the man he became

@@Thisguy0187 exactly
If Zuko truly learned anything from Iroh, he should know that operating in extremes is a flawed philosophy. Being overly soft has just as many issues as being overly harsh, even if said problems manifest in different ways. Balance is key to all parts of life, and as such, I doubt a mature Zuko would be one to just go "don't be like dad" with no deeper thought. This isn't to say Ozai wasn't a terrible father, but Zuko should ponder what made his father a failure instead of mindlessly assuming everything he did was a factor to his downfall.
He didn't learn to only have one kid. He was the only one who had a healthy relationship with a positive parental figure in his life.

yeah that’s what he said
I think Iroh is really just half of the story.
Aang was an Air nomad, they were surrendered as infants and raised by their community elders which is totally non conducive to being a good parent in traditional family structure. Also he was definitely trying to cultivate the last Airbender (Tenzin) to be able to train the next Avatar
Excuses to be a shitty parent. He was an adult, a parent, he had 2 previous children to learn how to parent in these different circumstances.
@@Derthlin but he also was an avatar, how many avatars have children?? When he became an adult he didn't have anyone to learn from. Listen aang wasn't a good parent but not because he didn't want to be but because he thought he was doing the best he could at time. Aang knew he was dying and had to train his son in the fast way possible.
@@Derthlin
Aang is only a shitty parent by todays standards.

Spoiler for the comics, but
He also found his mother again.
Valid opinion, but there could be explanations for these
@@lauraschwarz4489I agree Zuko’s mom loved and cherished him but she barely tried with Azula the mom she saw that she was becoming her father she scorned her and stopped trying but honestly that’s more Ozai’s fault than hers imo
However choosing to forget your past and children to live her life with her true love was messed up imo she didn’t abandon her kids when she chose to leave, she abandoned them when she chose to forget them

Underrated comment!
Hes a flawed dad not a bad one@ethanmorrison7021
Let's call a spade a spade.
plus zuko have memories of his mother who loved him. Zuko really have 3 sides of parenting so he know what hurts & bad for a child
I'm so proud of zuko. He saw what not to do from his parents. And he had his uncle to teach him how to be kind.

Just facts bro 😂 and if Aang would've still bring bumi, kya to those trips he would've still be called a bad father ,
Aang respected their wish and didn't bring them along cause just being a father is already hard but also trying to rebuild the air temple is hard,
And about katara she just trusted aang with things thus she decided to not say anything and at the same time respect the wishes of their kida

To be fair to Toph, her parents literally sent bounty hunters after her which isn't a great incentive to make nice
Wow... just, wow. Way to ignore pretty much everything about the show. Ignore how Aang slowly learns the resposibility of the Avatar while still remaining playful and loving. Katara has issues with anger and pride that she learns to temper, and Toph's parents is the least of her worries, but they are addressed in the comics at least.
Katara does have flaws. She is vengeful and can't get over the painful past without causing harm to herself and others.
youre mad wrong buddy. They all had development, you just never paid attention 💀
Girl what? If that’s the takeaway you had from the show then your media literacy is in the gutter
@@grimcatmysteries8841that is inherently wrong; Aang cared about kataras opinion because he loved her, what the fuck were you watching? Fire lord Ozai, the last firebender?? Literally Aang never wanted to lose either Sokka or Katara hence why he lied to them like what 3 times? Once was about him being the avatar, the other time was bc he thought Katara and Sokka would leave him all alone to be with their dad and the last time was to Sokka because he didn’t want to stop loving Katara. Again, what the fuck are you watching??
I loved that scene with Zuko and Iroh even as a kid. That feeling of, "Just shut up and come here so I can crush you in my arms."
He was the only one to have a parent figure who respected him and truly loved him.
Zuko quickly became my favorite character after that dream with the 2 dragons. Seeing his struggle and him overcoming them just made him extremely relatable and inspiring.
He had an amazing mother that cared and loved him as well as his uncle Iroh.
She abandoned them and left them to suffer. I don’t think that makes her an amazing parent.

"The only one to be taught life lessons." I know what you mean, but you gotta phrase that better. The Gaang definitely learned life lessons, but none of them had a parental figure in their life like Zuko did.
atla is a series i watch and rewatch again and again every few months for more than 20 years now...
Zuko really got to experience what having a terrible upbringing can do to the soul. Becoming a great parent was always in his destiny ♥️ it’s the true redemption of his whole story
Aang was actually a decent parent people forget that Aang want to rebuild the air nation and only one of his kids want/cared the other two have admited they werent interested at all. It of course is not the best of all time but not nearly as bad as everyone thinks.
regardless, you don’t neglect your other kids feelings and ignore their interests and purposely not take them on “vacations” . that’s insanely crazy and absurd and if it was someone else then aang, you guys would label that person as a bad parent immediately, give them the same treatment
Nahh.. if my children aren't interested in MY interests that doesn't mean I'll neglect them and prioritize one of them, if you see it that a parent wanted a Doctor child and just one of them made it to college and the parents will prefere that child, i think your opinion will change a lot especially when its something you born with like airbending
@@christianbeckles8992It's like devoted muslim let his children choose they're Faith and only one of them choosed Islam, it's obvious he take only his musslim child to the holy site of Mekka.
Aang take Tenzin to air nomads holy sites, it was more of spiritual vacation, just like prilgrimage, taking there atheist would probably occure with they're being bored, not speaking about if it was possible.
Uncle Iroh is one of the best character ever written.
Out of here and all the main characters in the original Atla zuko was the one who had the most character growth
Zuko became Iroh son, He had lost Lutein but gained a Zuko
He may have had the worst father, but he also had the best father like figure
His mom taught him kindness and iroh was the best father figure in the show.
Zuko was given examples on what to do vs what not to do, and given the freedom to make a choice.
Iroh forgiving zuko made me cry.🥹
Tbh, Zuko is the only one that went through some real tough shit. He is and will always be my favorite character
That's not why he's a good parent though. He's good parent, because Iroh taught him what to do, and Ozai taught him what not to do.
He has seen both examples of what is a good, and what is a bad parent. He knows exactly what to do to be a great parent.
Aang literally had his whole entire race of people wiped from existence. Tf you mean Zuko is the only one who went through real tough shit?
saying zuko is the only one who went trough real tough shit is crazy, youre mad wrong 💀
Zuko had the best father ...uncle iroh is his father ish
"Learned from his family not to have two children."
This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You do not love your children less because there are more of them.
you missed the point, zuko did this to avoid rivalry between two of his children. like how azula and zuko fought with each other.
It wasn't about number of kids either, but yourself. If you don't think you are up for the task of raising children, then don't have any
That zuko scene hits harder as an adult🥲
Zuko’s mother gave him great love as well as his Uncle. Ang and Katara were traumatized from the instability in the world. Even Katara father was a little aloof. So they probably stayed really focused on developing one child because it was they who’d experienced the most trauma without a loving Uncle and mother to be in their lives at consistent key times
I think his abdication also highlights how much he differs from his father. he didn't feel the need to be in power for his entire life, that would have been a huge act to do, it shows his ability to relinquish power and give it to his daughter, it sets a huge example
Zuko became a great father because he had a father figure like iroh in his life.
Despite his father was cruel, but he had his uncle who always by his side
The thing with Aang’s kids that nobody talks about is that only Tenzin was interested in learning about air nomad culture. Kya and Bumi constantly talk about how they didn’t care in the show. Those vacations weren’t just treats, they were lessons. Aang was the last air nomad and wanted so badly to rebuild them and had 2 out of three kids who didn’t care at all. Not the perfect father, but also Kya and Bumi weren’t great kids
I hate how people get mad at aang like he didnt give equal chances because aang offered to teach them all the air bending ways and only the air bender wanted the knowledge so aang didnt force it on his other kids
regardless, you don’t neglect your other kids feelings and ignore their interests and purposely not take them on “vacations” . that’s insanely crazy and absurd and if it was someone else then aang, you guys would label that person as a bad parent immediately, give them the same treatment
@@christianbeckles8992We wouldn't call them a bad parent (as in abusive), but they aren't a good parent either.
Imagine you want to teach your kids about your religion, but some arent interested, so you take the one who IS interested to sacred sights and see the history.
Ye but bumi wasn’t an airbender and Kya’s a water bender but I think it would be better if aang took all of them on those trips
@@Who_rulol698and then aang would be a bad father for forcing them into trips they weren't interested in.
@@christianbeckles8992 he didn't neglect them, geez he just had higher priorities
Iroh is the therapist I need zuko is the one that makes me need the therapist
Uncle Iroh was more than a father to him rather than his real father. He learned to be a great father from him, and he decided to have one child due to sibling rivalry
Zuko was forged in fire, that's why he is so strong and good... he knows the alternative and doesn't like it
I'M GONNA CRYYYYYYY
Aang didn’t neglect his kids. They didn’t like hanging with him or being with him. Only Tenzin liked being with his dad. Possibly because they both shared air bending and a love for rebuilding the nomad temples history.
But to say he was a bad dad is a stretch when it’s stated in the cartoon why he hung with Tenzin more
I love him
Zuko became the best parent out of his friends, cause he had his father and sister look back on for what a father shouldn't do to their children, especially since Azula turned out...unstable is generous.
And he learned from Iroh
They gave their kids what they lacked and longed for as children
Aang had no parents, katara and sokkas were gone or dead, tophs were overprotective and neglectful. Zukos mom and iroh were good parental figures, and ozai was...ozai. zukos the only one to have examples of good and bad parenting to learn from
I get what you are trying to say, but I can tell you from experience a bad parent makes you want to be a good parent.
Even though the Fire Lord was a terrible father to Zuko, he wasn’t actually his father. Uncle Iroh was his father. Iroh taught him how to follow himself and be a great leader to his people.
Sometimes the best parents are the one with bad parents they tend to try to avoid the mistakes their parents made.
He could've ended up as another Azula without Iroh
because Zuko also has a loving mother and yes, Iroh is the best mentor for Zuko.
Zuko also had an amazing Mother who gave him love in the beginning and then Iroh was there to give him love after
Zuko did have a great father..Iroh ❤
Aang never knew his parents (as far as I know, it seems the Air Nomads used to have children but they didn't actually told who birthed who, instead it feels from flashbacks and things we see in comics, that they just let the kids to grow up and be free, without those shackles), Katara and Sooka lived most of their lives alone without a father/mother figure, Toph hated the idea of family constraints;
It's very interesting indeed.
Zuko even though he had one of the worst childhood’s, he had Iroh by his side. Iroh was the father figure of Zuko’s life.
Zuko had Uncle Iroh as a father figure. Great guy
Zuko didn’t have bad parents he had a bad dad but a good mom. And luckily for everyone he was a mommas boy
It does not seem to matter how well that moment is timed or well it is placed, it always gets me in the feels. I tear up man .
That scene never fails to nearly bring a tear to my eye. Zuko had such a loving uncle.
Zuko did have a dad. Ozai may have been his father but Iroh was his dad. Iroh was a positive parental figure in his life and helped shape him into the man he became
