I was expecting 15-17k at .5 ohms. I remember the 3k did like 13k at .5. Thanks as always
The new series amps have a limiter on them that doesn’t allow them to go that high
Pretty awesome Orion sent you their amp for testing to the max, win or lose. To stand behind their product like that is refreshing with all the smoke and mirrors on packaging and advertising for other manufacturers. Thank to you for your time and efforts.
Thanks for watching and commenting! And the amp is going back, not that this matters with my review but just being upfront
@@wal no one insinuated you were keeping it. He literally just said it was good they were willing to have a third party test it, better or worse. Did you misinterpret his comment?
Wow how awesome is this channel!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos!! In the 90s we put high end stereos in all our vehicles as we went to car shows and cruising. This brought me back to the 90s mini trucks my old Mazda had 15's and 10's I had a 91 irock z with kicker 15 and the 2150 hcca from 1990 wish I still had those some of those.
Imagine how nice those end caps would be if they were matching anodized red aluminum

The most expensive system I ever built (back in late 90’s) was Orion HCCA everything. Was the loudest, and cleanest by far. Just spent more on the stereo system than I did on the car.
Yup... I had 8- 12" XTRs, 2- 2100 HCCAs, 2- 250 HCCAs... I've still got 2 of the newer, still old, HCCA 275Rs, 2- HCCA 250Rs, and 2- HCCA 225Rs.
Clean crisp sound for sure... but nowhere near the power we were lead to believe.
@@alfredoibarra9825 Mark Orion, Dick Lemay, and Mark Kopal started PPI circa 1981 and Orion (due to business practices of marketing man Jeff Scoon) circa 1983. Up until mid '90, they were nearly identical... even used the same bridging module for their amps.
I had one back in ‘97, just got another one in the junkyard!!!! I miss Orion HCCA Amps!!!
Back in the day mid-90s I had an Orion amplifier and subwoofer it was incredible.

Orion is still making awesome amps and killing it. Very nice amp and very good numbers. Thanks for the video Big D👍🏼👍🏼 yeah boy😎😁
I love the old school Orion HCCA series. Bumped them for a long time
I've been running the xtr1500, xtr500.4 about two years. My 10" R's does even stress the amp (going to add another 10 shortly. ) also love the class a/b on mids and highs..dynamic power is INCREDIBLY!!
Yeah I had to save up for the xtr 2500.1 after Big D's test of it, had it running at .8 ohms for a year of brutal hundred miles a day commuting on a audiopulse axis quad 1ohm 12" and a CT Sounds Tropos 15", which was a pretty cool learning experience about how each sub was getting a different amount of power because of the resistance difference between the 2 speakers..
Anyway, yeah I'm close to being ready to reinstall the system in my first Gen grand Cherokee I'm running, can't wait!
Beautiful amplifiers with performance to back it up, I currently own 4 and they don't miss a beat
I love this channel. Thanks for all your amazing work. I'm stuck in the 90's for everything from amps to baseball cards. Just a happy time I guess--anyway, thanks for the memories! Thumbs up!
I'm the same way can't let go. Lol thanks to my Uncle's I've always been around car audio. My Uncle Doug had a 79 Cutlass. Pioneer deck pyle Lanzar horns and tweets from the old school not the new crap. He had linear power amp on a 12 kicker solobaric in what he called was a trick and what I found out later was a 4th order. Idk what it was about it but he use to beat down the block I always thought he had 15s but when he open his trunk and showed me how big that box man. It was crazy
90s where awesome. I still have my punch 500 dsm, my xtr2250, zr1000. Today's amps and subs are stronger 💯💪
I have a bunch of old amps. They are cool to collect, terrible to use. Newer is absolutely better to use.
I always loved Orion for those low ohm outputs nice job big d.
Guess we have to keep loving Orion.Always awesome back in the day and haven't sold out...
The JP 43 was only a couple of hundred WATTS less at tested levels. However at below one ohm JP 43 won by a lot. At .5 ohm JP 43 was 12,224 vs 9921 Orion. Orion went into protection. Both beautiful amps. 🤛🤛
Yeah but the jp 43 pulls way more amps and the Orion does better power at 12 volts
@@bass305-HCCA Yes but 43 is a lot cheaper and more WATTS. Could go 63 for the same price and totally crush Orion. 😁
@@donjaun540 yeah ok. First go out and spend a couple thousand on upgrading your electrical because you need almost 15V to get that power. Orion will do it at 12. I have Orion amps. They're awesome
...if I may shed a bit of light.....All 3 amplifiers mentioned, the only comparison between should be what YOU are willing to spend. Reason being. You're having to upgrade your electrical either way..🤭🤓
@@graytinnovations True. Electrical is number one before choosing an amplifier. Then it's your choice what type of power and speakers you want to use.
As they always say power is cheap but clean power ain't! You get what you pay for. Love the video as always ‼️‼️
I remember when a Puch 150 was big power! These amps are insane!!!
I still have my alpine mrvf-1000 v-12 and 2 thunderpro 15s bought in 95ish…had all alpine highs and deck in a 91 king cab s10 Durango 4x4 with the big Durango decal down the bed
I still have a mid 90s punch 200 dsm and 500 dsm. Kinda look like a foreman grill. I can't find the end caps though 🤷. Both still work
I remember when an Orion 2150SC was big power.
12 of them. 8 x 12s and 16 8s.

@@shaneyouhouse I had a Orion Xtr 2150 on 4 eclipse 15s and a Xtr 600.4 on my highs in a 95 Tahoe. Back in 99.
Throughout my school and a few years after school trading with friends and purchasing, my favorite setup in my little 92' civic hatchback was a JL 500.1 which I mounted with wood behind the carpet in the pop down rear seat on passenger side (so I can pop down that seat from driver seat and adjust if needed). Along with a sealed duel voice coil 12in HCCA subs. Bouncing quarters off the roof and cracking the rear hatch window... Was alot of fun. Still upset I sold the setup. Yuh live you learn.

Yoooo!! I've been waiting for this one for a minute!! I hope these are as beefy as the old line of DSPLX amplifiers!
That anodized red color has become synonymous with Orion. Nice video big D
I was kinda disappointed it didn't do rated at 4 ohms but beat rated on 2 and 1 ohm. Hopefully you'll let us know what the new Orion Xtr Pro amps will do. Thanks for another awesome video Big D
Almost 800amp draw, that’s insane!! Amazing!!
Big D did it again. They raised the price on the 3k. Surely to make the 4500 look more appealing.
You just told me you’re doing a Orion test. Thanks Big D. You’re the man
Hey Big D, watching this inspired me to go back and rewatch the video of the Orion HCCA3000.1DSPLX vs. the Sundown Audio SCV-3000D. And I noticed right away the reason Orion has a better bass knob now. They started using the exact same one that the Sundown Audio amp came with. 🤣🤣🤣 Always a good video brother!
That metal bass knob, with the clipping indicator light on it, is used by Crescendo, Dc, Skar, Sound Qubed, Digital Designs, Sundown, and many more!
Always a quality test and evaluation. 👍
thanks for the comment and feedback! I accept constructive criticism as well, have a great day!
my 3000splx just glisens in the back but bought a Sundown Sfb 13500 for more power. I decided to buy a second 3000splx also and will probably install that instead cause I've been so happy with the first one. I'll be able to power the whole street if I wanted😏

Orion amps for the win, sold my 3k a couple months ago and I now regret it but I live and learn I guess
I wanted this amp but I think I'll stay with my orion 3000.1 DSPLX, not saying theres nothing wrong with this one. Electrical does have to be on point for either. Thanks for the video.
Very good amplifier.
And still keeping the classic look.

Great video Big D 💯💪
Orion just on another level, wow!
I’ve been waiting for this video!
I always talk about my Uncle Doug but my uncle Larry had an Escort with an old Orion amp from the early 90s and honestly can't remember what subs he had I just remember him being a Cerwin Vega guy. Man I miss those days
Okay Orion!! Those detents on the adjustements are 10/10
It's funny because they gave me a cheat sheet and were like this is a VERY expensive option, please let the people know. I fully understand why these would be important in high SPL vehicles 🤙
I was waiting for this!!! ♥️
A clipping indicator is almost a must now days, especially in daily driver setups with all the different edited music going around..
I'm glad they added a variable subsonic filter instead of just on and off
I love Orion amps but I expected more. Especially after the XTR2500.1dz If I were in the market for a massive sub amp I think I would go for the JP series of amps. Definitely over achievers for sure. But for now my B2 audio Riot 7500 is killin it and I don’t plan on getting rid of it anytime soon 😏
Orion always have been good shit. I just recently bought the b2 audio 4500.1 and I should of bought this

When I was shopping for a good 3k amp a couple yrs ago it was between synergy wfo and orion hcca. I'm surprised it didn't break 10k but I'm glad it went into protect. Drool worthy amp but I'll I'm going with synergys 5k for a bit cheaper.
@@wal when using regularly, not right up to clipping, they're efficient and sound great, nothing sounds as good as the rockfords T class amps imo bass wise
Because of your video I bought the 3000.1 splx. I thought that Orion went bankrupt and was out of business? I hope they stay around. The end caps suck. Mine stay in the box. Thanks for another great video!
Love those pots. Every company should be using that. In high spl applications it’s pretty common for cheap pots to move.
@@wal the deaf bonce aab amps produce a ton of power for the money, and are high quality, except the pots. In an spl vehicle you actually have to gain match, set all your pots, then hot glue them in place. They move everytime. I’ve installed many of them. Before a show about two months ago. made of steel. I set 4 aab-7900s to 96 volts. That was the clipping point at 30 hz. I always use 30 instead of 40. Nothing I build is tuned high. High bass sounds terrible. IMO. Anyway, After one day of demoing we noticed the subs were not moving in sync with each other at all. So i got a volt meter and tested the amps. One was high as 108 V and was clipping nonstop one was as low as 55 V and barely putting anything to the sub. And these were not mounted to a subwoofer enclosure. In the rear of a vehicle in a totally sealed off B pillar build. Almost no vibration at the amps. Cheap pots can ruin a very good amp. Good job Orion on using high quality components throughout.
@@Van1018s wow even tho you are not getting infinitely adjustable settings (as there are detents), you still prefer them to stay in place, I get it. Very cool option that's needed

Great review, and good of Orion to trust in their product enough to let you test it. For a car stereo though, do we really need that much power? My house stereo is 80watts rms and I can’t go past half way on the volume!
Hey buddy love the channel amd the videos you do. I would like to suggest an amp to test. Mmats pro audio amps would be awesome to see. There is a few videos out there but very unprofessional and hard to follow. Anyways than you for your work my friend.
irfp4868 are the amplifier section, the irfp1405's are for the power supply
Orion is a classic in the audio industry however there is another classic in the industry. I am referring to the Doctor Crankenstein 75x6 amplifier. I would really appreciate a dyno test of this amplifier. I am familiar with it through Naff's audio electronics( Builders of the Kicker Coca-Cola Thunder Truck) also the 1999 Car and Audio magazine buyers got addition. I was led to believe this amp was banned from many of the competitions during the mid to late 90s. Any information that would be given concerning this amplifier would be great greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance🙏😎🇺🇸
Love Orion amps, the HCCA’s like this one have been out of stock for a while…they sell quick.
Hello big D awesome video! I have the 3k version......where do you suggest I set the subsonic filter, phase and LPF?
I wonder how the 3000.1dsplx does against this bad boy cause technically at 0.5ohm it did like 13k if my memory serves me correct but I think it did so well cause she's rated at 12.6v vs this bigger model at 14.4v
Thanks big D for new amazing content big money here 💸💸. I have a question for all channel members I cant find guts of audio slayer 3k any suggestions? Thanks
Thanks Big D
That's what's up bro 💯
hey Big D, does this mean that the newer version of the splx (comes in red boxes) does not have the capabilities of the older versions that came in black boxes (that insane 13K watts @ .5ohms)? because of your review of that insane 3000splx I made a decision to purchase one for myself but surprised it came in a red box and metal bass knob with no brith sheet as well. is the newer version a little bit tamed as what everyone else is saying.
Clamping a little higher on my 3k's, but at .5 rising to 1. They really stepped their game up with these new amps. No one is touching this for the price.
Question how accurate was the bass knob clip indicator compared to the dyno?
Hey Big D Wiz I don't know if you take suggestions but I would love to see you do something with the soundqubed U1 series they are crazy cheap for what they say they do and I want to see what they truly make
A badass amp and extremely inexpensive. Excellent
Hey bro, i love your reviews.
Can you make one for Alpine MRD m1001?
I think there is mistake IRFP4868 are not for power supply it is output section mosfet(300V) and also IRFP1405 for power supply(55V). Thank you so much.
Beautiful amp BIG D. It's a tuff one for me because I think the JP amps can do better, cheaper too. 😉🤛🤛
@@deaconbruce7216 Fact JP 43 was only a couple of hundred WATTS less on each test. JP won easily under one ohm. JP 63 destroys Orion at the same price.

Quick question running some old setups is 1 12 inch mtx 9500 rated 1000rms better then having 2 Rockford 12 inch punch hx2 rated 500 rms a piece but together equal 1000rms my point in question is what’s louder and will hit harder 1 12 1000rms or 2 12s 1000rms total together
For one I love your channel man watch it all the time. I think the 3,000 Orion test did better than this one
This should have been built like the older amps and rated at 12.6volts that's why it didn't do as well as the older 3000.1dsplx models those are rated at 12.6v so when you send then 14.4v you get way more power! Thanks big D!!!
Apples and oranges. Old school Orion has nothing in common with these SPL monster amps.

905 amps of power! We used to have an installers convention some time ago where Orionused its output to weldmetal with a welding rod. Class A, for the win. We tried it with one of the amps Manville brought with him. Not so good.
Ya, that tired old trick has been done forever. And they weren't even that powerful.
Also, absolutely L-O-FUCKING-L @ being able to do a cosmetic weld with an amp being some kind of a "win". It's irrelevant
You should do one of the ds18 hooligan series apms!
I would like to see the 4 channel class ab amp from orion hcca 2000.4 or even the 4000.4
Can this be strapped or does it have to be gain matched with another
I ❤️ your channel. I recently purchased a HCCA 11000.1 D. Is there a test in the near future in the works?
I bought the SMD AMM-1 and yes it's expensive and yes I rarely use it but all those years of wondering what my amps truly put out are over.
You missed adding the better than most pots on the amp with high precision detents that help fine tune and lock them from spinning while being subject to high vibrations.
However, imo Orion can do a whole lot better with making their own form fitting tool (flat driver) that fits them too, and they can also improve with their anodizing heat syncs, side flat plates (anodize them too), and laser-refracting etching with clocked screws made from titanium for a more refined build... as it currently looks stale, which was great in 1985 but 40 years later and still the same thing?...time to kick it up a notch.
Orion: There are people who want a Rolex grade precision tool to go with Rolex precision dials... say a titanium tool with silicone rubber cone head that fits perfectly into the outer hole while the flat blade part that spins is also magnettically aligned to always find the correct angle to rotate the adjustments.
Also a few special versions every ten years, similar to the purple, gold, and polished versions I've seen and drooled over?
The old Orion 3000.1dsplx did more power at low ohm’s , it must be because it has a bigger power transformers than the 4500 , though running a 1 ohm sub you will get more power with the 4500
Pleaseee do the jamo sub review ive been waiting ever since I saw that community post
