Hands-down the most thematically strong/evocative show design of the year! (And I say that as a bloo fan). BEST DECISION EVER TO HAVE THE WHALE WIN AT THE END! Loved it.
BAC had THE BEST show of the evening bar none!!! AND THE WHALE WON this time !!! (as it should be). BACG ... THE Best Guard in DCI hands down - cannot comprehend the Corps final placement. Their drill was so finely written, tuned, adjusted; smoothed out and honed in on. BAC was the winner in my book !!!
I total agree and don’t understand the judging…especially the color guard award! The other three top corps had moments of talented music entertainment but overall boring shows. Even the crowd’s reactions to Boston’s show on each night of finals tells who entertained and impressed for the evenings! Great job Boston! You were robbed and deserved a higher placed position! I so appreciated your show this year and all the talent that went into creating and performing it for us throughout this season!!
@@neversaynever7438 I think the guard thing happened due to the ending. It wasn't as massive as the music sounded. Not to mention they started to lose the caption once they covered them at the end with the water. Hard to judge what you can't see
The top 4 were all amazing this year. BD was untouchable, but 2-4 might as well have been a tie in my opinion. BACs show was my favorite this year as far as the storytelling aspect of it.
I love Celtic music, I love Boston, I love DCI. Swallowtail Jig and Shipping Up to Boston in a DCI show was what I needed to hear this year, THANK YOU CRUSADERS!
The guard was outstanding! Truly impressed! Lots of skills and techniques on display, they are intricate to the story and the visuals (of course), and damn entertaining to watch! Thank you all for your hard work and dedication to a great performance! I’m diggin’ it!
A composer will say that when they’re writing music it’s similar to painting a picture of what’s going on in the music. If you close your eyes and listen to the chords at the end of the opening sequence it really does sound like a ship leaving port and setting sail. Great writing.

I have a good history with this show! That bly river tarp at the end of the show we bought off of them to use for our show in 2023. That show became state and Mid-Atlantic champions, along with 2nd place at Nationals with a 95.2(first was to Dartmouth), getting us our first nationals title since 2014! Afterward, we got invited to our State Capitol to be honored for such a success! Tomorrow I will be able to find out what our next outdoor season is! It's only on from here(that was my first marching band season, and I still have 4 left excluding indoor because I'm a percussionist)

You have to question the intelligence level of the people who decided to kill the whale off the entire season until the last performance. How much better and true to Moby Dick the whale beats the human. Why would they choose the gloomy ending of killing a great creature? Thank goodness rhey changed it. Audience was thrilled, and for good reason.
there’s a lot of deeper meanings to the show. it was our own attempt at defeating our white whale (winning a championship). changed on finals as it became clear that our whale couldn’t be defeated yet.
So sad they didn't Medal. DCI judges led them to believe it was possible till it really counted. They and Crown had the only 2 Shows that needed little explanation. Blue Devils masterful but the message very confusing...as was Bluecoats.
I just watched the BD show and it's clear to me why they won. But I agree with you on hoping BC would metal. I was really hoping they'd finish a strong second. This was a great show. My favorite of the season.
oh my gosh... Marching in 7 without playing, but playing the hit of On The Waterfront (7/4, 1 &, & 3 & 4 5 &, & 7) WHILE MARCHING is insane to me. (I mean my freshman year when we played that, we also, placed 10th at lonestar finals because we had only 3 movements, didn't perform our 4th movement until the friday right before region, and placed 6/7 at area prelims/finals so we kinda sucked that year anyway)
Best ending change! Might have been because of the announcer's funny PETA comment afterwards. Maybe they were also getting comments from viewers. Fantastic change. I think many people reacted to it extra loudly.
This show should’ve gotten 2nd and Cavies should’ve come out on top. To the best of my knowledge (go ahead and correct me if I’m wrong), there hasn’t been a single corps that’s won on an anniversary of its existence.
Ahhh! This drumline is so talented, but too many exposed simple passages were less than perfect. I guess that cost him. Also, this show missed the opportunity to include flying whales by Gojira. Haha.
Stunning musical score and performance. Gold medal music imo. Drill was lacking, especially in the closer. That closer called for some of the best run and gun drill ever, but we got mainly park and bark and a giant whale flag instead. The visual design was largely disappointing compared to the brilliance of the musical score (end of the closer and the ballad being the exceptions…loved the drill there).
@rjc3208 this is so funny. I'm not a bd hater by any means(2011 is one of my fav shows ever) my corps culture and shows matters to me way more than the score. I like more bac shows. I do hope I march the year that bac finally gets a drum trophy tho
This is a well-executed show, but not a winning performance. Don't get me wrong, this (next to the Cavalier's show) was my favorite show this year... BUT... too many drops in the guard, the drumline has played this show better, and the horn line was pretty good. Overall, the concept of this show was a brilliant one, but IMHO, consistency is the killer. (FMM--'77-'87 Cavaliers)
No they didn’t. Crown and bloo were on the up charge. And they were not anywhere as clean as BD. And these people saying BAC guard should have won go look at the tape, the whole tape. BD guard was squeaky clean. Only placing they got finals night that I disagree with is percussion but their front ensemble was the weakest of the top 4. Judges see that just like they see greatness. It was an amazing show that got the placing it should have.
Dude you're so real for this. I'm a huge huge fan of bac and hope im there for my age out but i think they just peaked earlier in the season. This wasnt that clean. Im mad it didnt medal. (Even more cause i know someone who was here and it was his only year so i wish he got a medal)

I, for one, am all for critiquing overly heady concepts, especially in world class winter guard (lookin at you, Onyx), but just because you don't know who an important artist is doesn't mean "only pretentious people" can appreciate the concept.

this show was good, but not only was BD’s show more musically intriguing, but it was cleaner in absolutly every spectrum. You say there was 20s of flaw in this show which is not a lot, but with that you have to realize there was basically no flaw in BD’s show. And that’s not even a bias. I am the biggest bluecoats fan ever and i can still see how BD had the best preformances in 2023
TBF, the Wellerman just repeats after the second phrase. If it’s a person singing, it’s fine. But we’re talking about a tuba section in a drum corps. There’s only so much they can do to make the Wellerman sound interesting.
I loved the writing of the closer music but visually it was just MEH. They could have done a lot more with this show. But it really felt like they were down on power compared to previous years in the brass. They sounded more refined but nowhere near the power of the other top 5 groups.

Their costumes actually took away from their overall performance, in my opinion. Beautiful blending, soaring sonorities, dark timbres, sharp marching, and precision over power! Much to love. The costumes were so weird though.

The reality here is that BAC show didnt have the same ceiling as Bluecoats and Blue Devils. They've run out of room two years in a row.

Loved the show but hated the uniforms.
This is a great show but to the people saying this is a 1st place show... no.. it's not.
Execution? No. But you can argue that the concept could have been a championship show.

Musically yes. Visually no. The drill was disappointing compared to the musical score. So many missed opportunities for some of the best drill ever.
Their costumes actually took away from their overall performance, in my opinion. Beautiful blending, soaring sonorities, dark timbres, sharp marching, and precision over power! Much to love. The costumes were so weird though.
They just look like Carolina crown from 2014. It’s not that bad.
