Thank you for your great video's and thank you for this video on rear view mirrors. I do not do group rides, nothing wrong with them. I am a commuter and bicycle tourer and I never liked having to look down at the bar end mirrors, seemed like I was taking my eyes off the road to focus on the mirror, and you should be scanning rear view every 4 seconds or so. My local bike shop recommended Take A Look mirror. I really didn't like the concept with mounting a mirror to my glasses or helmet but gave it a try. At first it was difficult to get adjusted, but once I figured that out. Wow. Love it! I always wear some type of glasses when I ride and I find the Take A Look is easier to adjust when attached to glasses as compared to helmet. All I will say is this. I will never leave home without one. I will go on a ride without a helmet, without clothing, without flat fix tools, without money....without anything except my glasses mounted rear view mirror. The best safety device you can add to your ride!

I use the Mirrycle mountain bike mirror with only one of the two mount arms so it is out to the side of the bars. It’s large-ish, easy to see things coming and doesn’t move due to bumps. In very bumpy situations it does vibrate enough to reduce visibility but it’s still very good. It’s been through accidents etc and not broken after 5+ years of use. I’d highly recommend it!

I use a mirror on my helmet all the time, and because it’s close to my eyes, the vision is perfect, it’s actually an small inspection mirror, that I’ve mounted in such a way that you can’t miss anything.

Great info as always. Still no ideal solution to this. My guess is that the best would be a rear facing camera attached to The seatpost connected by BT to a second head unit. My car has that so why not my bike?

I have Italian Road Bike mirror. It mounts in the bar ends and is very discreet. It’s also a convex mirror and it’s small so the image is tiny. It’s hard to make out cars approaching from behind. It’s really only useful to determine if riders behind are on your wheel.

I've got a convex distance mirror up high for touring. I had a small drop bar mirror but thay arent easy to see cars until they are quite close. Giid at night to see headlights in the distance. It gives a feeling of safety but dinthey kaje you saf err us the question. I find wearing lots of high viz and a flashing light is more important. I find the larger touring mirrors much better.

the problem with mirrors mounted to the side of the handlebar is that if the bike falls over you destroy the mirror, so a mirror with a bendy arm and the mount being on the handlebar, and the bendy arm could be impacted without being ruined, and could be adjusted easily, a thing like lamps have to adjust angle, but for a mirror, that might work, what do you thing? with spacers for mount, so you could mount it anywhere on the handle bar. But I also think it would be possible to make a bar end version, with a bendy arm, so it could be adjusted, and if you crash it bends and is not harmed.

I've got a similar one on my commuter that sits more inline with the handlebar drop like the bar end mirror you mentioned. Looks very smooth and it does let me keep an eye behind me with a quick glance (especially at night where headlights will catch my peripheral vision, I don't even need to move my head). It's got a better FOV than this one thanks to a more convex shape, but it doesn't conveniently fold away like that. That might be an option for my race bike though.

I use a zefel mirror, ok on drops, hoods and standing. I live in rural area with a lot of trucks going fast and it is amazing how silent they can be if off the throttle. A glance at the mirror allows me to see if anything close is about to pass me that I haven't heard and I can then turn my head to look at what is happening behind me which tends to put a bit of a wobble on my line but doesn't put me under a truck running close by. Considering that some f#@$&S's think close passing is a challenge they can't resist, if a mirror saves you once it is pretty good value.

I’ve used bar end mirrors for many years. They work great. I don’t see any problems you guys mention.
I have Italian road bike mirrors on my road bike. I have always used 1 on each side of the bike. They’re a little harder to get adjusted correctly before you put the bar tape back on.
I have Cateye BM-45 Bar mirrors on my gravel bike. Also 1 on each side.
I think the cateyes have a better vision area but both work fine & have glass mirrors. Other brands have chromed plastic lenses & they scratch up within a year of riding. Stick to glass lenses.
Suck it up & learn to use them correctly & buy one for each side.😜🤣

Try Sprintech, also a bar-end mount, great visibility and does not move with bumps in the road once set to your angle. Be careful to blow away particles of grit before cleaning or plastic lense will scratch.

It did not stay in position on the rough roads we have in Quebec (Canada) and I eventually lost the mirror which fall off likely on one of the potholes... great concept but would require very tight fitting on the ball and housing to stay in position and don’t fall off.

    Garmin radar? nice.
I wish there was something I could do to prevent sudden car surprises, blowing past me, it's not always possible to just look behind, and the cars can come when you are not looking, so you have to look back and forth super fast which is unrealistic, i hate when a car drives by fast, no horn, just silens and the sound of tyres against dirt.
