Great review 2 years later. For anyone watching this today. He’s semi correct the reason he couldn’t tell a difference is because with the tags on it becomes “Semi-Open” this is due to the fact that those magnetic don’t create a seal so sound still leaks out. Personally I found without the tags on warzone it was marginal difference but I did notice it because I didn’t realize the tags could even come off.
Thank you, your review saves me money! I will keep on playing with the Command Center settings. Trying to solve audio issues between my ps4, mixamp and OBS Studio so i'm glad your video saves me some time with the mic issues.
Been going through different wireless headset reviews and I have the a40s myself. BY FAR, the a40s seem to have the best mic output quality. I recently tried the a30s and my party chat has described my voice as talking into a coffee can. Never tried the arctis wireless but watched a review of the mic test and it seemed similar to the a30s.
Yes thank you seriously bro it’s a mess even knowing what gen and type your buying in stores and subsequently matching multiple mix amps to said system and then matching all components then when that’s all done…You gotta buy a 50$ mod kit to get to the upper tier of headset playability??..etc,etc,etc..Uhhh Just thank you for your hard work man For Real For Real.
I just got the same mod kit from Amazon and my earpads and headband have black stitching instead of the white so I'm kind of disappointed and it seems they don't make these mod kits or even the astro a40 anymore
Yeah, I think they're discontinued. I really want the A50 ones because the A50 X could use them. A lot of the ones still being sold are just unofficial third party ones now.
I appreciate your reviews brotha… which headset would recommend for CoD Warzone regardless price tag. Also do you use a software called DTS Sound Unbound
I don't use DTS Sound Unbound. I generally avoid stuff like that and only use EQ. Of the devices I've tested, I think it's between the A40 TR and Cloud II. If you're gonna use the out the box and you only care about Warzone then Cloud II. But if you want an overall better sounding headset and you're ok with EQing it for Warzone, then the A40. Personally my vote is A40. I only use my Cloud II for testing purposes after I got the A40 and A50.
I got a mod kit for my A40 TRs over the weekend. I really like the closed back function a lot better than open. My issue is that after long play time, the headset starts to give me a minor headache because the leather cushions are pushing against my huge head like a vice. Do you think if I use the stock ear pads and headband, but use the mod kit speaker tags to trap in sound, would it still be noise canceling?
You didnt mention the fact that one side leaks sound due to mic connection. you didnt show by how much the sound leak is reduced from headphones to surrounding area. --- Quite important things to leave out. record youself playing at same loud volume with Open Back and Closed Back!
I'm going to be honest open back headphones are better than close back headphones because of the positional awareness I was in disbelief too until my friends told me I bought on the $500 Sennheiser 6x's and I'm talking about these headphones are so amazing for positional awareness
it all breaks in super well pretty quickly. don't get the modkit for the headband. i've had 3 astro a40 headsets over the years and they all break in very well
Finally someone that is doing a detailed video on something that many people dont go very far in details in. Thanks so much man keep it up!
I was about to type the same thing.
Never realized how much it clips out on Home setting too
Great video man, waited years for an in depth review like this
Thanks for the indepth mic comparison. Was looking to getting it for the mic, but Was looking for review and none of them talked about the mic.

Great review and I love the A/B mic testing you did

Great review. Could you do a review going over audio settings in the Astro HQ?
Maybe, I pretty much went over everything in it in my A40 vs A50 review though.
Thinking about getting this headset. In terms of competive sound which headset gives better positional audio: hyperx cloud 2 vs Astro a40 tr. pc btw

Any custom EQ to share?

Ah, sure. You do that and tell me all about it.
Wtf my stock mic sounds nothing like yours mine sounds more like if I’m using a 2014 mic 😕

Well as long as it works for you, it's all good.
I agree ,tested a50s vs a40s on r6 and can tell which floor people are on with a40s cause of the open back a50s cant tell which floor at all.
Night is the best option
Does anybody find the default headband to be uncomfortable? Does it need to be broken-in?
it all breaks in super well pretty quickly. don't get the modkit for the headband. i've had 3 astro a40 headsets over the years and they all break in very well
What's the difference between open and closed ? I'm confused
Open means there's a physical opening on the ear cup. Usually many small vents/holes. Closed means no opening.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews Oh okay I figured just wasn't sure
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews Thanks for making it clear
Mic sounds better with original mic
Not really
@@johndoe-ge3qy As an audio engineer, the stock mic is genuinely better.
Jesus Christ love you
