- Decals and graphics can change the personality of any vehicle but they don't last forever. UV rays and time will cause them to peel and discolor. In today's video, Nick demonstrates how to properly remove these types of vinyl letters without harming the finish and without the need for paint correction.

Thank you! This was very helpful. I used a hairdryer to get the decal off and then a little bit of goo gone. Worked way better than I was expecting. There was no residue, depite the decal baking in AZ heat for 7 years.
🤩 Glad you enjoyed the video!!
Love watching people who know what they’re doing….always looks so easy
Thanks so much for watching!!
Big difference when you have a decal that has been there fir 5-9 years
What happens when it has been on there for 10 years and just flakes off instead of peeling?
Awesome video ❤️ Be very careful though, if you do this on a bumper or something else that has paint on it and it's not metal you will get the paint off as well, 1st check if the back of the decal is metal or not, if it's not then be very careful with the 🔫 gun, very easy to remove paint and you're done for.. Game Over. 2nd Tip use ^Trim Clean Wax and Oil Remover^ on the sticky glue left behind the decal! Works great 👍
Blow dryer and goo gone. It took a while though. That's how I got off the vinyl decal my dealer put on the rear spoiler. I hate when they do that.
merry xmas Nick. hugh shout out to Robert Turner who has helped me immensely.happy holidays..
Anyone else was scared cause they thought Nick was gonna remove the stock stickers after seeing the thumbnail of the vid ?
Simple and useful. Thank you 🙏
Glad it was helpful!

Lo que no dices cuánto tiempo tiene la calcomanía instalada
Is this the same process for removing the decals that come on a vehicle? For example the "4x4" decal on a truck.
Absolutely!
How can I location you guys am in coventry cv2
Nice
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Plastic razor blade
Thank you so much for this. I used this technique to remove vinyl dealership advertising from my lift-gate, I used an industrial-class heat gun like the one shown, on the lowest heat setting, and as described, washed the hot air over the entire 2" decal for about 15 seconds, always moving the gun around to spread the heat evenly. Then I picked at a corner, and the whole thing peeled off in once piece. I wiped the residue off with a a general purpose spray cleaner, and it's like it was never there. I don't like those decals at all, I wish I knew about this technique 20 years ago.
I'm with you! Hate when they advertise on my vehicle. I ask them not to put them on and mostly they dont, but nice to be able to remove them. Back in the day, i've seen some that were rivited on....crazy!
🙋🏾♀️ did he say butter wet wax?
Thank you for sharing this. Knowledge is power. More knowledge to you bro. Now l can remove the one l have on my Tesla and replace it properly. Appreciate it.
Glad you enjoyed the video!!
Thank you so much for the tip here. I just bought a Ford Transit with TONS of these vinyl decals and lettering all over it from the previous company owner, and this will make it so much easier. Thanks again, I wish all the best to you and yours!
Hey Wesley! Thanks so much for watching, happy detailing!!

@@ChemicalGuysHi! Will hair dryer work just fine? Ty!
Thanks! The video is a plus. I removed my vinyl stripes before seeing this and now I have glue leftover. I used goo gone, which was a terrible mistake, because now I have what likes like a haze all over my hood. Which product would be best to remove it? Thanks in advance!
Hi Dexter! Try using the natural cleaning oils of Butter Wet Wax to remove residue.
Can you do a video on how to remove sun damaged cracking vinyl stripes from old cars or would it be the same process
Great suggestion!!
Great video! Very soothing voice too!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah, what if you have a whole box truck full of glue residue..😫😫
Awsome.. Thanks a tonn for this info. ❤️❤️
Glad it was helpful!
removed a bunch of vinyl from a work truck before I sell it. Have noticed 'ghosted' lettering particularly on the LEER truck bed cap glass. tried denatured alcohol, adhesive remover, clay bar and detailer spray, dish soap and glass cleaner. The ghosted lettering is completely invisible until the glass is wet. Thoughts?
Hi Dan! Try using a light polish such as V36 Cutting Polish with an Orange Hex-Logic Pad.
?will this work on a older vehicle where the vinyl is already flaking off like say a Chevy g20 van
knowing one more detailing knowledge thank you Chemical Guys
Hate the pinstripes that go across both sides of my 2019 Ram Big Horn. Will have to do this.
Awesome video! Does this work with Permanent Adhesive Vinyl? Any cure for paint fade shadowing?
Absolutely! Use this process to gently remove adhesive and residue. For faded paint and ghosting try machine polishing with C4 and P4 to restore shine.
Thank You! I just bought a 14 Tacoma. It has huge corporate letters on both doors. Definitely getting a heat gun!
Thanks so much for watching, happy detailing!!
Can this technique be used to remove the original decals on a Trans Am Firebird? Will a hair dryer work?
hi can you do a vid about the best starter kid and full wash on a car using a hose pipe and hand polish it please
Merry Christmas chemical brothers 😎🚘
👍👍 BUT-this is ONLY for the PATIENT, Cautious person, willing to let the PARTICULARLY Cautious Applied heat process work. No fingernail impatient “scratching” or the like.
Use the gentle (not Pro) Goo Gone.
There are commercially available, rotary “removal” tools and they are NOT a viable shortcut, if you’re impatient. I did an entire F-350 body wrap this way, but I can see the three places where I thought I could shorten the process, but I was wrong. The older the wrap/sticker the more slowly you must go and the longer it’s going to take, which in those cases, it’s creeping more with the Goo Gone and less with the heat.
Nice to see you Nick, good job!!
Found your video after searching to make sure before I take off my Can Am decals on painted doors👍Done it plenty of times but always looking for safer ways to do things and this is a black side by side so less rubbing or abrasives is what I was looking for❤️
Thanks so much for watching!

Thanks so much for all your help!
😃 Glad you enjoyed the video!!
Merry Christmas....ahem still waiting for a death nut challenge lol
They really do stick well. That is good if you run a business and want the advertising to still be there a long time. I inherited a vehicle with some butterfly and flamingo decals from my mother who liked flamingos and other warm weather things. I will have to give the heat a try. A hair dryer might work also for this really.
Thanks so much for tuning in, happy detailing!
Great selection of microfiber towel. Goes well with Christmas upload.
Thank you . knowledge is power wow appreciate it
💯
What would you use on a window? Great Vid!
Hey! Thanks so much for tuning in. Check out this video.

I've got the adhesive all removed but when the dust settles (dirt roads) it shows the decal outline perfectly. How do i fix something like that? Looks fine when it's cleaned up but the dust shows the perfect outline.
Hey! A light polish will remove any remaining residue, try using an Orange Hex-Logic Pad with V36 Cutting Polish.
What is you have ghosting from the letters? Thank you in advance
Thanks!
Happy detailing!!
Awesome thanks!
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Looking good but not necessary the only way, Kettle of hot water will do the job as well….
Great feedback!
Wouldn't that damage the paint?
Is the Butter Wet Wax the Deep Wet Shine or the Creme Wax?
Only clicked to see that Nismo 😲
Gloria a ti,señor,por todo/ Viva Christo Rey
😃
Another great one Nick , thanks
Thanks for tuning in Jim! Happy New Year!!

Would this also work with a blowdrier?
Hi there! Yes, this process can be performed with a blow dryer it just may take a little longer.
Would a hair dryer work? Hmmmmm 🤔
Yes, just takes longer.
Is this permanent vinyl?
Dang. I wish mine were that easy! They must have used a permanent vinyl adhesive! Heat did nothing lol
😮
Thank You!!! I have a Jeep and wanna swap out the color of the hood name decal and remove some other graphics now that I’m doing some other upgrades. I was worried I would damage the paint. This is so incredibly helpful.
Thanks so much for tuning in!

How do you remove the ghosting that sometimes exist after all the decals have been removed
Hey! A light polish such as V36 with an Orange Hex-Logic Pad will refine the finish.
Merry Christmas Nick to you and your whole family!! Your very lucky man, to be working on that skyline!! 🔥 Great video like all ways. If you spray (auto body solvent) on the decal and miro rub area and use a plastic blade. Comes off like butter with near to no glue adhesive and saves time. Cant wait to see next video with this beauty!!
Will a hair dryer work?
