I love how you get straight to the point and show exactly step-by-step what to do without mixing a bunch of bull crap into the video!!! I looked forward to more like these!!
This was very educational. Thank you. I planted thr whole bunch together and they all died. Will go and buy another bunch today and plant them spaces out a bit better and with a root tab in my sand.
Just got a new batch of three bunches/5-6 per bunch. I love this plant - thanks for the info! Last time I had this plant most stems died due to improper planting - those that survived grew almost 20" tall and the top sometimes divides when trimmed!

Thanks Otter for this short, straight to the point video. The information is so much appreciated. I just subscribed to your channel, my bro. Keep up the good work
This is a beautiful stem plant I picked up from my LFS! Let me know how you all plant your stem plants, and what stem plants you like best! I hope everyone had a good Christmas and a happy New Year :)
thanks for the video ive been wondering why the repens havent been sprouting like crazy as usual.... nooby mistake on my end i bunched em up with the metal wire they came with. your video actually saved me some money i was just about to head to a new fish store n get some more
@@OtterCreekAquatics What a difference went from 2 bunched up clumos had 6 stems each, maybe 1 or 2 are just pure stems with little leaves on em i still planted them. have about 16 stems total as i propogated some earlier in the week. thanks again i also subscribed n will let you know if it grows like crazy n makes a cool dense bush looking jungle. currently 10 gallon with 24w light on for 7-8 hrs a day i dont have c02 yet but have been dosing with flourish excel. maybe its time to get some diy c02 hooked up
Great video man! Sweet looking plants! I’m shocked they have such good roots. A lot of times they won’t. I’d like to add if there is no roots it’s usually best to let them float for a few days to a week to get some roots to start to grow. A lot of times if no roots and you plant it you can get the bottom of the stem plant to turn mushy and fall off. You have a great location near you to allow the roots to have grown. It would be nice if LFS allowed some roots to grow before selling plants to people
Thats a good point to add man! Wish I would of added that in the video. I do that all the time! I have had several stem plants turn to mush because of that!
Otter Creek Aquatics it’s all good man. Next video you can add it. I’m sure you didn’t think about it at the time because yours actually had roots on it.
@@OtterCreekAquatics unfortunately my bacopa carolinia and moneywort is starting to have green spotted algae on the leaves. It's a 20 gallon tank dosed with c02, flourish excel, iron, and plant food by seachem. Also have plant substrate and have a aqeon full hood light with a floramax t8 plant growth bulb. How can I help out my bacopa? Also added in root tabs today.
Is your light on a timer? If so, how long? How often are you dosing your fertalizers? Did the plants grow a lot then start getting algae, or are they new?
@@OtterCreekAquatics I do about 10 to 12 hours of lightning but I just started using an additional light for plant growth that gives off pink and blue lighting. I dose my fertilizers every other day or so as recommended on the labels for my 20 gallons. Yes, there's shoots and plant growth but they are about 2 to 3 weeks old.it just worries me as I know the leaves will die off. Perhaps it is to make room for new shoots? They are rooting perfectly, I just don't like the algae as the leaves will eventually fall off. They do grow quite a bit though. I've thought about trying a schedule like 4 hours on 2 off 4 hours on but I just want to figure out the issue lol.
I would say the issue is the additional light that you added. Its not a bad thing, your plants probably just need more fertalizer. What are your nitrates at the end of a normal week? If they are less than 20ppm I would start off by adding an extra day of dosing fertalizers. Then after 2 weeks reevaluate. The bigger the plants grow and the more light you give them you need to feed more.
@@MrBeeznutz Thought about trying some out! I usually just get beamswork LED cause they are cheap. Have a Marineland im running on the 55 where i put those though!

Honestly I never counted. However they came from the vender is how they went out. At the time we didn’t have a big plant market but I sold quite a few but never counted the stems or sections etc.
That makes sense man, for some reason I was thinking they came in separate stems and were banded up by the stores lol. Not sure why I was thinking that lol

best video Ive seen in awhile, short, informative, and amazing all around!
Great tutorial, also remember to ensure not to bury any of the bottom leaves as they will just die off. Happy new year and catch you later
Good point! That would be bad too, could cause ammonia pockets!

I have the hardest time with stem plants
How do you plant ludwigia stem if it has no root? Won't it rot without a root structure?
Stick it in there and in time will grow roots and establish itself.
