@@NextJeneration wow those weeds get through anything. Would going deeper even help? Or maybe using cardboard instead of barrier. Just trying to brainstorm. I’m literally doing this exact thing right now.
Thank you I just completed mine over the weekend. My neighbors spent over $1k to have someone do it for them. I did it myself for around $200. God bless!
Yeah right two hundred dollars what are you using pavers made from paper and dirt from the creek what bs .. meterials cost money and defiantly more then 200 bucks
I love the video guys it’s really helpful however I struggled with getting what was happening on the ground as the clips of the actual work were too short and the camera kept coming back to you guys. It would have helped if you talked over the video and showed more of what was happening on the ground. I hope my feedback is received positively.
Omg! You two are amazing with your totally elaborate, detailed beautiful explanation and execution of a DIY DRAINAGE SIDEWALK. Love it! And thank you for the detailed information!
Love it. I've been exploring new path ideas to fix standing water on a stone walkway at a home I recently purchased. Always muddy, always sandy. Seeing how you did the base will save me from trying a french drain method. Thanks so much, great video!
I needed this exact video. Thank you. I removed most of my front lawn with a half moon edger and shovel and it took me all week and a whole bunch of new blisters. I'm also doing the walkway along my driveway so this is going to be SUPER HELPFUL
Man, this was so helpful because I started out all wrong. I can't dig because I had a drainage system installed, so I have to set pavers above ground. This will help me level things out. Thanks a Mil!
Not my favorite video format, but well done. Very helpful. Pro tip- too late to help you, but for others reading through the comments. A sledgehammer makes a decent tamper for smaller spaces. Use it exactly like an actual tamper.
Looks awesome, guys, I just can’t do the dirt, and mud, and critters , and mosquito. Highly allergic. Last time I got bit I was given antibiotics. Yard work is overwhelming.
Rental stores have plate compactors for pavers! I work at a rental store it’s one that has a pad or rollers on the bottom! Just in case you ever need to go back over it.
I was on the right track with your process, I only need the side of the walkway that leans toward my ground level sun room. I was going to edge the existing walk, then dig a trench and form a dry stone river bed to run this water to by pass the spot where it enters? Follow your instructions without the pavers? TY if you can answer!
Love the vid. You guys should be 1M in the next two years!! Thank you so much for the instruction. It seems daunting but now I'm confident I can do this myself.
Ok first Rich ur a lucky man cause Jen’s a hottie, secondly I love how ur cat made his mark.... lastly great job you guys! This project came out amazing!! 👍
Before you lay all the top level down wrap the steppers in Saran and spray a rock glue. That will stop the topper from ending up in your drive way and lawn.
I'm glad I stumbled across this video as I had this same idea in mind but I couldn't describe it so I showed my other half and she loves it too. Hi from Australia
Love this y’all. Turned out really great. During the big reveal.. I was really counting on that spec on the lense being gone. Haha I was like Awh mannn. Subbed
This video appeared in my feed. Maybe because I love DIY. Really great info didn't know about the sod cutter. That wouldn't saved my back 2 summers ago. I love that you respond to questions. Only annoying this was the dirt on the lens but other than that awesome video.
I know this varies on alot, but would be great if you have a "total price paid" for all materials. So some that have price points can get a great idea! THANK you for the video
Of course! We don’t do it because material pricing varies depending on location, especially on wood lately 😢 We will keep this in mind for the future, but we also link everything in the description for viewers to get an idea on pricing for their location!
Thanks! You definitely can, we’ve had the pathway for 2 years and have had no movement of the pavers! We’ve even had a couple of storms and hurricanes, and it still looks great!!!
Hi guys, my wife and I came across your video and looking to do something very similar, so thank you for this video. One thing that we are having a hard time wrapping our head around is how does the water actually drain? I understand that water can travel through the spacing between the rocks compared to having water just sitting on top of the soil, but when the walkway eventually saturates, where does the water flow to?
Great job!!! I live in Texas now but from New Orleans. So I definitely know what you are talking about with the rain! Water is not our friend in New Orleans!
Not silly! We had them in bags on the street for trash pickup and they didn’t pick them up. So I posted it on Craigslist and within an hour it was all picked up!
For long term stabilization! Also, the gravel at the bottom is for additional drainage. But the sand is necessary so the pavers don’t “settle” and become wobbly!
Omg I actually planning to do this with mine soon. But the thing is my house/driveway is on an elevated ground level so the end of my driveway is going down hill a bit. any tips on that end of the driveway ? Would the same method still works and cement blocks still sit flush / even out ?
I like this look and appreciate the hard work. But I would have just put down some landscape sheets then the pavers then the pebbles I think it would have been just as flush with the driveway.
By laying the pavers directly on the sand aren’t you concerned they will move or sink over time? Why wouldn’t you mortar/cement the pavers and point them so the are solid fixed?
The gravel allows water to get in and drain, and it also absorbs ground tension, which prevents the pavers from sinking. Then we added sand over it (and tamped it solid into place) which serves as a main stabilizer over time. When you place the pavers on the sand, they should sink slightly to “lock” the pavers in place. Without the gravel & sand, the pavers will shift over time. You could do cement, but that’s not a draining option for us. Gravel & sand will give the same result (with less work) as the cement, but will also drain heavy rains!
So it's been 2 years since you made this. Can you do a Follow up video? Great job!
Yes, it’s still holding up great!! Just have to pull weeds a few times a year, but no complaints!
@@NextJeneration wow those weeds get through anything. Would going deeper even help? Or maybe using cardboard instead of barrier. Just trying to brainstorm. I’m literally doing this exact thing right now.
@@NextJeneration U should put mulch glue on the lime stone. They will stay in place and no weeds come through. It's awesome
I’ll have the check it out!
@@ysbelbella6674 but then will that help with drainage still?

On the tamper you can attach a 2 x 6 short board to the end of the 4 x 4. Very good work young people. Show your generation the way.
What do you mean?
Man, this was so helpful because I started out all wrong. I can't dig because I had a drainage system installed, so I have to set pavers above ground. This will help me level things out. Thanks a Mil!
I'd put a sealer coat om t he pavers to keep them looking new. They also make sealers for gravel to keep it in place. Beautifully done!

Looks so nice🥰 I want that too, and I didn't know that making a pathway with pebbles and pavers is so tedious😄.
Great job, definitely getting a rental for excavation. You made it look easy. Thank you 🎉👍🏼🐾

Hi from Australia
Spray the finishing rock with spray on epoxy to hold the loose stone in between the pavers together, saves constant clean up of rocks.
This is something I was looking into doing, thanks for this vid
Very enjoyable to watch, doing this in my backyard in a muddy area my dogs live right by our master bedroom windows!
I was smiling through the whole video 😁. You guys make a great couple, thanks for the diy.
Awww thank you!
Love the look!!!!! I used mortar under my pavers to keep them for shifting...Great idea......

Ours is on a slant, so it travels down the pathway and into the street where it goes into the drains
Beautiful. I will use this I was battling with what to do with my walkway ❤️

We have weeds grow, but not the grass! We have to weed a few times a year
Great Video!! How’s are the weeds doing ? I did something similar but without gravel and it got filled up with weeds pretty quick. 😅
The weeds still come 😭 I haven’t found anything that completely gets rid of them
are yall doing the grass next to the pathway. It would complete the look. I love your pathway

Great idea and thanks for the great prep tips. I’m finding for any & all DIY-the prep is the most important step.

Why is the base and sand necessary? Theoretically can you just add more limestone to replace base and sand? Just curious!

Hi, great video. Just checking did you mix the sand with a concrete mix? Am a bit confuse coz rhe sands' color changed.
No, it’s just sand. We wet it to compact it down
By laying the pavers directly on the sand aren’t you concerned they will move or sink over time? Why wouldn’t you mortar/cement the pavers and point them so the are solid fixed?
The gravel allows water to get in and drain, and it also absorbs ground tension, which prevents the pavers from sinking. Not sure if this question was asked yet, did you guys tamp down the final stone that's around the large concrete pavers?
You can lightly tamp it down
