That intro is exactly why Frank Buck was voted blues guitarist of the year!
I bet he appreciates your frankness! 👍
Thats a nice modification to "I want you (she's so heavy)"
Agreed. Well I'm sold on the Les Paul Jr. and after watching that intro, I hardly even need to watch the rest of the video (although I will ;-))
@@LennyJohnson5 t
that intro has gotta be some of the best, most tasteful lead playing I have ever heard on UA-cam
What an incredible intro!
Chris does the Beatles justice with that intro... fantastic interpretation and playing. Mesmeric.
Check this out. From 91’
ua-cam.com/video/k_M0KuNqXUM/v-deo.html
I was falling sleep with UA-cam playing around and as soon as I heard this intro I opened my eyes and was like: woah what is this!! Killer intro, killer player.
I have to be 'frank' Chris - the playing is (as usual) sublime, the guitar sounds great and I bet the DeMarino twins, both Ron and Frank, are delighted with their name-checks......
Excellent moi!🌠🎶🎸
Wow, had to play that first 1.12 minute solo 'bout 10 times, just brilliant.
The video just ended..
It's time to watch it like 50 times again
LOVED the video.
I always wanted to know more about that Les Paul.
The guitar playing and tone are just mind blowing.
That lick at 0:35 is just sublime
Jesus christ that intro was insane
So glad you chose all the Abbey Road tunes to demo! Not temporally accurate, but sooo good.
The guitar has an amazingly haunting sound.
I think that intro answers the question. It is indeed worth the hype.
Man, I love your solo playing, but your rhythm playing equally fabulous! What a pleasure to hear!
I love how smoothly you go from fingerpicking to picking with a pick in the beginning of the video!
That was a savage, inspirational and completely electrifying intro. Holy fuck.
Man that playing at the start... Gary Moore would have been proud of that! Gorgeous phrasing and tone dude
Oh, man... that Mike Douglas performance with Lennon and Berry is a real trip. Someone decided it was a good idea to give Yoko a mic and she just goes full-tilt Yoko and Chuck's like "what in the actual f***?" Eventually, someone had the good sense to finally shut Yoko's mic off.
(BTW, that trem effect on Because is freaking haunting)
Chris, you are seriously the only guitarist that can make blues interesting to me anymore. You truly are a phenomenal player.
Awesome tone. Pure inspiring dynamic playing. Thanks for making my day.
For a player who mainly plays rhythm/harmony/accompanyiment behind his singing or other lead/solo guitarists, I think John Lennon's mods on the guitar make a whole lotta sense
That intro was just OMG 😮
Your tone is so unique and refreshing
great vid , gibsons are usually always nitro ; especially vintage reissue guitars ...Fender is the Poly king Pam
I think it was more likely a pun, the Gibson large pick ups are called humbuckers.
John knew that, but I don't think Ron (aka Frank) was up to speed with his zany word-play and British humour... Engelbert Humperdinck played a part in Beatles' history, in that his awful single 'Release Me' kept the Beatles brilliant double A-sided single Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane from reaching No 1 in the British charts. One of life's mysteries right there.
Can't believe I missed this video until now! I always admired this, it was the first modded guitar I noticed that seemed useful.
The Because intro sounded amazing
Love your stuff! Especially how you include gear info with playing. Rock on.
Thanks Chris, that was really informative.Incredible playing as ever.
You could make a cigar box with a broom handle and rubber bands sound phenomenal. It ain’t the guitar, it’s those hands and that heart.
Chris ! that is great guitar playing, and to think that’s 60yrs old blows your mind.
That intro maaaan, he broke his nail and everything woah
With all due respects to the Greats. Hendrix SRV... this world of guitar players are the best weve ever seen. and Chris you are up there. Love thank you for sharing your craft with us
Yes he’s Good but not near Hendrix and Srv i mean come on be realistic
@@alexskywalker664 he is being g realistic, and I kinda agree. Don't live under a rock
PlayMoreGuitar i’am livin in a house i don’t now How you live but Yea he’s awsome don’t get me wrong but i mean Hendrix is the best of all time best ever so not near him but he’s near other guitar players!
@@alexskywalker664 was/is Hendrix 'better' than Guthrie Govan? I love Hendrix, probably the most influential yes... but best? Not in this life. you read too many magazines. He didn't even play in tune half the time ;) anyway. Cheers.
PlayMoreGuitar ok i understand and i respect your opinion and have a great day and after all we are all guitar players hav e a awsome day man!
Normally that much tension in the hands doesn’t sound good, but you sound great brother. Very musical indeed.
Nice video. Inspiring. Really came together at the end. Fair winds and following seas to all. Ooorah!
Utterly sublime interpretation of I Want You SSH. Did they use a LP on that track? I know they had Harrison/clapton's Lucy knocking about the studio around that time.
That intro kicked some serious A$$! Well done...
The neck pickup is mounted the wrong way around. The notch in the PU blade is supposed to be under the B string (which is louder than the others - therefore the notch which helps the balance - on a string set with a wound G).
Nitro-Gibson rarely uses poly, and never on custom shop runs that I’ve eve heard of. Sounded fabulous. Charlie Christian pickup was sweet. Always haven’t wanted to try it. Prices are through the roof. Shocking!
Everybody talking about the intro but nobody talking about how that guitar is SO EXPENSIVE
It's rocketed in price over the past few months; a strange phenomenon 🤷🏼♂️
lmaooo when the Frank counter started i died laughing
6:20 Gibson only ever use nitrocellulose lacquer on their guitars. The Custom Shop stuff especially use a much thinner finish with less plasticiser in it
Exactly! Gibson always uses Nitro finishes. Its the reason I prefer Them over the cheaper epiphones.
Cool guitar but I suppose I should expect this from Friday fretworks your playing is truly inspiring!
It's a reminder of just how good a player John was when you watch up close.
wayback playback You do realise that that intro is definitely not on the song? There’s nothing like that solo on any Beatles song - this guy just improvd it/made it up
Shows why they had good ideas in my opinion but were nit the great visionaries people say they were, good yes but definitely overrated.
Your phrasing is legendary wtf man
Good god! Nice interpretation!
I was so confused by the intro - it SOUNDED like proper White Album outtakes, but I knew that couldn't be John playing, could it? Tasty playing, very tasty...
Lol it's not white album..it's Abbey Road
The song title is I Want You ( she's so heavy)
This song made by John for his new wife Yoko
@@throttlebrah "SOUNDED like proper White Album OUTTAKES..." You do know what an outtake is don't you? Good on spotting the tune, which I didn't, but his solo is centuries away from how the song actually goes, which is why I said outtake. And the smug bit giving me the title and telling what the song is about...competing to show how much you know. If you'da been civil about it...cool - two people who dig The Beatles connecting on the internet, that 's awesome, but you're a schmuck on the internet trying to score points...and it's fucking boring. Everything's not a competition, and I'm here cause Buck is such a great player, for the music. Get your mind right, it's not always about you and what you know, sometimes it's about appreciating other people and their skills.
Or maybe I've got it wrong and English isn't your first language, so there are subtleties in tone that you missed?
DUDE THAT SOLO FUCKING RIPPED
Damn Chris you just tore into that like a pro. You’re no UA-cam hack that’s for sure.
Man, i just love your style! If one day you ever made a workshop or a skype lesson count me in!
Epic playing at the start that dude
yayyyyyyy you dont know much how i love this les paul jr like it before i watched it
Frank Marino (of & Mahogany Rush), another great guitarist.
Sounds absolutely gorgeous!
Damn great playing brother!
If John could come back you would be in his band by special request
Dude when you play and you cup the pic with your index finger and your thumb?.. the way your right hand moves &the way you attacked the strings with your right hand, really BIG TIME remind me of Derek Trucks. You sound very similar to him.
Wow that is some hot playing!!
All in all a fantastic video. Great playing too! However, I just wanted to point out a small correction about the finish. These replicas are finished in NITRO lacquer. Gibson have never used anything but nitro. You can also find photos of the original guitar when it was shown at the John Lennon Museum in Tokyo over a decade ago (when these replicas were made) which show it with a relatively glossy finish.
I think the debate lies in the fact that when the original guitar left the Gibson factory in 1956 it was a tobacco burst, with a single P-90 p/up and a wraparound bridge. John gave it to luthier Ron De Marino to have it routed for a humbucker at the neck position. DeMarino - for reasons lost in the mists of time - chose to fit a Charlie Christian p/up instead of the requested humbucker, and it's in that guise that the guitar appeared when John (and a screeching Yoko) played alongside a slightly bemused Chuck Berry on the Mike Douglas TV show. Following the show, John returned it to DeMarino to have the body sanded back to the bare mahogany, and the wraparound bridge replaced by a modern and standard Gibson Stop Bar Tailpiece, which is how it appeared at the Madison Square Garden gig in 1972. Following that John had DeMarino stain it cherry red, but it was left in a matt state... no-one seems certain if a thin matt lacquer was applied, or a minimal matt seal, or no finish at all, just a wood stain, with possibly a finishing polish. The original guitar seems to display (in the very few detailed photos available) a 'sheen', but certainly not the high-gloss finish as worn by the custom-shop replica. John's also had his Gibson J-106E sanded down and it has no finish whatsoever, just bare wood. His famous 'rooftop' Epiphone Casino (also sanded down) may have a subtle layer of sealer applied over the bare wood, but again, is not lacquered. It remains a mystery..... and to be honest, John cared little for these details, so even if he were still alive, I doubt if he'd know! Ron DeMarino would be the man to ask, but he didn't even take detailed photos of John's original Rickenbacker 325 (the Hamburg one) before sanding off the black coat to take it back to its original maple/natural. That 325 is the Holy Grail of Beatles' guitars, so why Ron didn't photographically record the restoration is not only a mystery, but alarmingly unprofessional.
uniqueguitar.blogspot.com/2012/09/john-lennons-les-paul-junior-modified.html
@@LennyJohnson5 back then guitars didn't have the same aura or mystique they have now. There wasn't anything special about John's Rickenbacker back then, it was just another regular guitar he bought early on, and they were thinking well if you want to see one just go buy another one. It's only decades and decades later did people start to really care about "vintage" guitars and the word "vintage" was even used to describe guitars at all, and that many models stopped being produced or started being produced with very different specs (like with all the kinds of Gibson Les Paul Standards that exist from over decades, with people going after very specific years of them like they're wine or something). Nobody even took rock music as a serious art form yet when they did that to John's rickenbacker, it was not realised how vital it was to have taken documenting the history seriously.
Perfection... nice guitar too...
Very very nice mate!
Please come to Australia to tour or do clinics. I have a house you can live in. Your touch is great, thank you for uniqueness.
Interesting to say the least , caught ur visit to norms , pretty cool .
I want you (she's so heavy) all time favorite Beatles song amazing just amazing 👍
I had no idea John played She's So Heavy. Wow.
That intro 😍
Hey Chris, I was as confused as you as to Gibson's reasoning for the finish. It turns out after the NYC concert, Lennon had it refinished with a cherry stain. Info courtesy of 'The Guitar Show - John Lennon History of his Guitars'
gmt124 - I've read that John had it stained cherry red after appearing at Madison Square Garden with it in it's bare mahogany state, but that was it - a stain, and there was no finish put on top of it, so it appears today in a matt 'bare wood' state, with no varnish, poly or seal.
Awesome solo, dude!
Pure gold
Holy shit that take on a solo of i want you was raaaadd
Nice mate, real nice 😎🎸✅
Well.. I would say the answer is yes, after that intro. My goodness
Hype verified by 0:25 I feel bad it took me so long but I had to be sure! 0:52 hell yea I was right!
god of guitar
Tremendous touch.
LoL. I like it when people don't take themselves too seriously. Great story.
Chris, that sounded S o o o good
You are just good on guitar.
Wow! You are an amazing guitar player.
👏👏👏 world class Chris
Holy fucking shit Chris. You've improved so much since I last saw you play. That was some serious shredding in the intro.
you're such a bloody good player mate
Wow man that’s bad asssssssssssss
I may be wrong but the Gibson finish is most likely a lacquer finish instead of poly.
See the video of John playing Cold Turkey live. He has the same grinding tone as the studio recording and it's with this guitar with the Charlie Christian pick up mod.
My gosh, what an intro! Can I ask what amp and effects you are using? That is just INCREDIBLE TONE! Well done, Chris!
Blown away by your elevation of ‘I want you’... will have to see if you ever tour melbourne!
Frank actually has a nicer ring with that last name. Ciao
I think Ron has since changed his name to Frank by deed poll, as a direct result of this video!
I make that mistake all the time, thinking about my 2nd favorite Canadian power trio Ron Marino and Swamp Ash Rush. My favorite Canadian power trio? Well of course that would be Triumph. 🤔
Rush!!
He kept calling him “Frank” Demarino” because THERE IS A Frank Marino, a Canadian Icon and Legendary Gibson SG guitar player. The leader and founder, with his brother ,Vincent, of Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush.
Bought a Gibson JR, and Charlie pickup and made one myself. Screw paying $8,000 plus for 1 of 300 made.
Talent is art... 🤟💀🥀
Sounds nice t my end..👍🇦🇺
Great i want you, but he didn’t have the lp jr yet
Because 😻
Seen you on norms channel, nice!
You sure were frank about it.
what an intro
Could you talk about John Lennon’s Sardonyx?!?
Yasss!
You rock! 🤘
HOLY SHIT THAT INTRO WAS AMAZING
