BMW 750GS - Lane Splitting! A ride around Pereira

  • So, out on my BMW 750GS talking about lane splitting as I ride around Pereira.
    Is it allowed in your country? We can do it here, however, just down the middle of standing traffic. Most bikes extend that rule to do it doen the side of traffic, and whilst it's moving. Not me... well, not always.
    The video accidently turns into a bit of a tourist travel review as I talk about the bars and restaurants in the city as I ride by... it might be interesting to someone, somewhere, you never know.
    But when all said and done, I just wanted to get out on the bike after a few weeks away and have a chat about something, and share it with you.
    So, enjoy.

    Really enjoyed that video a great insight to your world. Went for 100 mile ride on my Tiger 850 Sport today here in the U.K. and there were a number of occasions where cars intentionally made progress difficult for me.

      +AndyBat ... Thanks, Andy. Yeah, I don't miss the drivers in England. They close the gap intentionally and continue to stare ahead nonchalantly, whilst listening to the shipping forecast on radio 4!! I do like the Tigers though, nearly bought one!!

    You should go for a drive in Switzerland, but it would probably be the most boring video ever. The best organized road traffic ever. Thanks for the driving impressions! 👍🏻😁

      +Mike Glaus... Hi Mike. I lived in Nyon, Vaud for 8 years, when I worked in Geneva. Had a Honda Shadow for most of that time. Yes, very organised road, rail and trams... However, the stretch of road between Nyon and Geneva was chaos every morning, which is why I'd always get the train... French, Swiss and every other nationality fighting a war every morning on 2 lanes into Geneva! But yes, the rest of the country was calm! Where abouts are you in Switzerland?

    I do filter here in the UK but live in a fairly rural area so doesn’t really come up too often. Like you I wouldn’t go up that inside route and I am careful, some people you see filter far too fast and you see them come off when a car just moves slightly or there’s a bump in the road. A few years ago I was travelling south, I had previously lived in big cities and always filtered. I was going two up with full luggage thought I’ll just wait in lane but when I hit the traffic automatically filtered. I did think it looks good in Columbia from this and previous videos, you talk about the safety aspect then arrive home at a gated community with a security guard that sort of watered down the safety a little😀

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the kind words. Funnily enough, the main reason for the security gates and staff, is to stop people walking through and to prevent all the fruit sellers and ice cream carts from walking through ringing bells and shouting. A deterant from burglaries was an afterthought actually. We have 40 houses in the street, and we all chipped-in to install the gate and have 24 hour security staff to take deliveries and stop the curious public wandering through. There's certainly no "drug related" danger in the city anymore, which is what I always go on about. And for less than 100 quid a month we now have a very quiet and safe street for kids to play. Anyway, come and visit to find out first hand 😄

      @@MotoBrit thanks for the reply Columbia is definitely a place I’d like to visit. Old guy now but lived in various countries and visited many more but never the Americas. The comments about the gated community were tongue in cheek as you know there are many areas in the UK where you wouldn’t walk especially at night and this is the case for most countries. Look forward to your next video really enjoy your channel 👍

    I enjoy a foreing point of view of how we do things in here, I live in Armenia, pretty close to Pereira, I do drive like you, but yeah most colombian motorcyclist drive like they are riding bicycles 😂

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  2 роки тому +1

      +Juvian... oh yes, the way motorbikes ride in Colombia is a whole new topic. I don't think there's any formal test or instruction, I rarely see the correct road position when bikes turn at junctions, and as for using indicators or even lights in the rain, forget about it!

      @@MotoBrit Yeah its pretty crazy here, I mean back in my days when I got my driving licence (like 25 years ago) you would only need to pay an academy to "teach you" then they would mediate and get you the licence, no test, nada, and you can guess how were the lessons...

    I wouldn’t survive one day on my bike in that traffic.
    Where I live there isn’t much traffic so I don’t have it “in my blood” so to speak.
    I’m not sure if it’s allowed to filter in the traffic, but I don’t think there is any law that forbids it.
    I think you’re only allowed to pass another vehicle on the left side but not in the right side in the same lane. So as long you’re staying in the right lane you are allowed to filter. But then you’re not allowed to overtake just before a “zebra crossing” if there isn’t a traffic light that regulate the traffic.
    So even if there isn’t prohibited by law there’s a lot of other laws that you might break if you filtering in the traffic.

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  2 роки тому +1

      I mean, this traffic is about my limit too. I'm more of a 'long and winding road' rider. If I ever have to go into the city, I'd usually take a taxi. The worst city in Colombia for traffic is Bogota. I rode right through it last summer in peak hour traffic. No idea how I survived. With a fully loaded bike too. Never got out of first gear for about 2 hours.

      @@MotoBrit It sounds awful, riding should be about therapy for the soul. But “if you have to go”. Last summer when I was on the trip in north part of sweden the traffic was so low that you could ride 50km on big paved roads without meeting another person 😊.
