I'm really enjoying watching this POV format. It's really watchable. It's more real world and not so 'perfect and planned' view. Talking through the thought process is a big help. Thanks Mike
Great to hear you liked it Mark! I only filmed it on wednesday so it was a quick turn around for this one. Good to know that it is very watchable. I'll probably be making more like this in the future if they do help with seeing my process of getting different images. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Mike, thank you so much for this video and your other content. We've subscribed to your YT channel. My wife and I are photographers, and recently retired travellers with our own YT channel, and we typically look for off the beaten path locations around the world that are ideal for long term stays. We're planning a trip later this year to Scotland, Wales and England, and your video was inspirational. Thank you again, and keep up the good work.
That's great to hear! Making videos here on youtube is a lot of fun, although sometimes a lot of hard work! 😆 ... but can be really rewarding and ultimately a great way to record your experiences!! Cader Idris is well worth the hike and is one of the less well known peaks in Snowdonia... you typically find more locals than tourists up this one but it is well worth the hike for the views. In this video I got an amazing sunrise from this peak: ua-cam.com/video/CBurRxog9dY/v-deo.html and it was snow covered which was really surprising as the weather was getting warmer just before I went to film this! If you have any questions or are wondering about any places to go whilst your here, just post your question here and I'll see if I can help! Thanks for watching 😁👍
I love Cader Idris, I, too, have walked it many times. This year we me a guy on his way down and again at the top.... He was doing all 3 of the main paths in a day.... A bit mad, really!
Great to have time to sit and binge watch your videos, lots of great advice as always. Just ordered some gloves, so I will have no excuse not to get outside in cold weather. Thanks Mike brilliant as always.
Really felt like I was there Mike. Really like looking listening and learning from your first hand experiences. Like Gary from Texas I'm very jealous of your location but I still get the motivation and ideas. Thank you!
Great to hear it was an immersive experience David! That was my goal for this one so great to hear it worked!! It's taken a while to be able to live near this place, so I am making the most of it whilst we are this close! 😀 ... and it sounds like you need to arrange a photography trip soon!! 👍
Thanks very much Richard!! On some of the forecasts it did say it was going to be totally overcast, so I am glad I listened to the more optimistic ones!! 😆😆 Thanks for watching 😁👍
Fantastic video and beautiful scenery. I really need to get over there and see it all for myself. Once agin, your drone footage is really great and just ties your videos together so well. Keep up the great work. I hope you guys have a great holiday season, Mike. Take care.
Thanks so much dude! You really do need to get over here!! Just wait until you see this week's video ... I'm just trying to finish it off now ... It's the same place ... Looking very, very different!! 🥶🥶🥶 My drone has taken an absolute beating recently, but great to hear it's worth getting in the air ... I just have to keep it from hitting the ground so much. 😆 It's amazing how much abuse the mini 2 can actually take!! We're all good and definitely ready for the holidays!! I hope you and the family are good too dude. As always, thanks so much for watching and commenting. 👊
Thanks very much! It was a fun hike to do ... just looking forward to some snow up there now ... maybe in the next few days as long as this cold spell keeps going. I'll be sure to check out your holiday let, we live in Newtown now but are always looking for getaways for the weekends and holidays!! Thanks for watching 😁👍
Good stuff as always, Mike. Seeing as you seem to be in my neck of the woods quite often, I recommend Dinorwic Quarry as a nice area. Bit of snow up there right now too!
Thanks very much Dei! ... and thanks for the recommendation, Dinorwic is definitely on my radar of places to visit ... and knowing it is snow covered at the moment, has definitely moved it up the list ... hopefully this cold spell will last and the snow won't all melt before next week! 👍
Hey Gary, Texas is pretty flat isn't it! ... And you're probably a really long drive away from the Big Bend National Park ... Sounds like you're in need of a vacation to a photography hotspot. 🤔 Thanks for watching 😁👍
i like this video alot!! i like the open/wide photo with more sky in it at 12:22 and i also thought it looked cool with the lake at the bottom and the fence going down the hill side, plus it could look like you took a selfie too at 11:32 😅 because of the reflerction on the camera screen heheh 😅 and my week has been okay, i saw a cruise ship named Mein Schiff 3 in Oslo too lately 👀
Thanks very much, it was definitely fun on to film ... although I was pretty tired by the end of the hike!! 😆 Haha!! The back screen does sometimes catch my face perfectly doesn't it!! 😆😆😆 As always thanks for watching 😁👍
Confident host “wings it” in this vid - breaks cabin fever and endures RAF strafes to explain compositions and settings, all ad hoc - 😊. Gate count at 100, but who is going to challenge you? Cool images - fine pano. Well done, Mike. Impressed that image taken w/flip-out screen hand held at arms length was so steady/sharp at 1/60 second - no kidding. Was IBIS on? Do you use all mechanical shutter, or electronic first curtain? Gotta catch my breath now😊. Cheers!
Haha! Yep, I was out of breath for most of the day on this one!! 😆😆 So for the handheld one at arm's length, I had ibis on and used the mechanical shutter (jsut as it comes out of the box). I do put it in high speed motor drive; I find this is a much better way to get good results with slow shutter speeds ... in a group of about 10 shots, I'll get 2-3 that are tack sharp ... might be a good subject for a future video ... 🤔
Hi Erich, It is such a good allrounder and I get more keepers with it compared to using my prime lenses ... less messing around changing lenses and more time enjoying photography. It isn't quite as sharp as the primes, but with the versatility gained, it is definitely worth it. It stays on my camera for 90% of my photography. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Haha! I did have to cut out the times I took big breaks to recover ... otherwise the video would have literally been 5 hours long!! 😆😆 Thanks for watching 😁👍
Oh how I've missed the heavy breathing!! 😂😂 An excellent video showing just how much difference having light can make to your photos. I definitely prefer the ones that have obvious sunlight hitting the land. As for the close or wide option, around 12.30, personally I prefer the wide. For me it gives more of a sense of scale and tells more of a story. For 17+ minutes I just felt as though we were walking through the mountains having a chat. Very immersive, informative and relaxed viewing. Try walking a canal for the next outing so I don't hyperventilate by proxy listening to your breathing pattern!! 😂Next year I will be in these hills a lot, so it's good to get some early recce time through your videos 😉👀👌🏼
Haha! The heavy breathing was just for you ... And I turned the volume up ... 😘 😆🤦🏻♂️ Good to here your thoughts on the wider shot at 12:30, I just wish there was someone on top of the ridge in the foreground to give some scale ... I don't think I'm asking for much .... 🤔 As always, thanks for watching dude. 👍
@mikesphotography you need to take Mrs Smith out with you more often. She'd be great for perspective in a shot, and you wouldn't be risking your own life neither! Christ, I hope she doesn't read these comments!! 🤣😆😇👌🏼
Hello William, I keep iso in manual mode and then change it when I need to ... If you keep an eye on my iso levels through this video, it starts at around 640, then goes to 200, and then drops to 100. This is me changing it manually. If you want to not worry about settings, get it into iso auto and set the max to about 800-1600, depending on your taste. It's all about trying different things and just going out and photographing things that aren't important, then you'll get to know your camera and the settings. I hope that makes a bit of sense. 👍
