Thanks for the video. Most people, including those selling the equipment, do not understand what it takes to install an alternate power source in an RV. Your cheat sheet is awesome. I used it in designing my class A 50 amp system. It would be helpful if you created a 50 amp split phase cheat sheet.

Ross, excellent recap of our issues. I do have the new split-phase inverter on order and should be able to move forward with your suggestions. I was able to get full refund from Renogy on the previous 30amp inverter so was really only out the personal labor I had put in. Which was fine since I learned so much from it and from our meeting. Thanks again for your help and I’ll reach out if I have any questions with the new install.

You didn't cost that man any money. You saved him the entire cost of burning down that trailer and potentially, tow vehicle, equipment (that make him money), and other personal good. Never mind the forest fire he could have stared and cost of life. You saved that man!
The GFCI was still inline to prevent any overages or issues for the outlets that were being powered by the inverter. But we ended up removing that system anyway since the only thing that the inverter was powering using their suggested “inverter prep” were these two outlets.
Thanks @TheGuntar I like your take on things. No kidding, it could get kind of toasty if you went over 15 amps on that skinny 14-gauge cable. Thanks for tuning in and for framing me as the hero! :)
I have an extremely simple option and it’s safe. Take your new inverter and add a 50 amp outlet to it. Plug your Rv into the 50 amp outlet fed from your inverter. All you need is 120v So hook both hots on the receptacle to the 120v feed from your inverter. Neutral goes to neutral and green is ground. If you’re not sure about that setup. Install a 30 amp outlet instead and buy a 50 amp to a 30 amp adapter plug for your Rv.
This is likely the way we will be going back in with our replacement/upgraded split-phase inverter that have on order. Planning to have installed by our summer travels. Ross was super helpful in explaining our issues and I highly recommend reaching out to him if anyone has questions.
The emergency break away depends on that tongue battery to function, if you take out the tongue battery, what is powering the trailer brakes? Do you need to change the feed from the trailer tail connector to the truck?
Tongue battery was “replaced” with the 460ah Lithium battery. The wiring to the original tongue battery was essentially re-ran to the new location of the battery inside the RV, and still powers the brakes, and everything else as before since it’s still hooked up the same.
Hi Wendy, thanks for tuning in and great question. The approach I was taking was to swap the battery for the larger lithium but to leave all other circuitry intact. The new battery, once tied into the circuit, would power up all lines with the 12V power and everything originally tied to that circuit would still work, including the trailer brakes. Hope that makes sense.

Yeah actually all you need is 120v… unless you have a 240v air conditioner or dryer lol which I believe none do.
