This song specifically, but the album as a whole, helped me cope with the death of my mom. She was 46. I was 25. Thank you for breaking it down accurately and simply. I am grateful. By the way, on Saturday, Blind Melon Vocalist Travis Warren got married. A nice come around
Love this one! I picked this to be my first song. I've been fiddling around for years now with a guitar, but never really learned any songs, but when life is hard you have to change 😏
Marty, I'm so glad you said this was one of your favorites. It's one of mine too. Most people don't know it. So many good vibes and great lyrics. "When life is hard is you have to change". Blind Melon was such a great band on so many levels. Keep up the good work man.
This is one of my alltime fave songs! I just started learning guitar in January and I'm smiling today as I although I'm butchering my way through this one, I totally hear it when I play. Baby steps but I'm getting there. Thanks so so much!
I got a guitar for Christmas in the 8th grade for a music class and it has been one of the most beautiful and fun experiences I have every had, also it’s a great hobby to let out some stress; of course as a new guitarist it was hard to get some dexterity in and start playing well (one of the hardest things I’ve ever done) I stoped playing for a while because I could never get a handle on it. Later in my life I took guitar one in high school and Marty is one of the best instructors I have ever seen on UA-cam once I got ahold of the skill it took to play I keep coming back for more.... I guess I’m here to say thanks for all your help Marty your the best keep up the good work I will always be coming back for more lessons. (Excuse my spelling and grammatical Mistakes not the best at it 😅)
Have been playing guitar for 4 years now, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to contort my hand in such a way that I can hit that high E fifth fret from a G shape 😂
Everyone talks about the grunge singers and their lead singers. Shannon Hoon is my favorite singer from the 90s. I can't imagine how much bigger they would be if he was alive.
Hey Marty, Jaron here! I would greatly appreciate your help learning these fun songs. 1. Clutch - Cyborg Bette 2. Bob Dylan - House Carpenter 3. The Cars - You Might Think 4. Red Fang - Wires 5. Crash Test Dummies - Afternoons and Coffeespoons 6. The Donnas - Who Invited You 7. Franz Ferdinand - Katherine Kiss Me 8. Jethro Tull - Mother Goose (How can you not love this song?) 9. Jim Croce - I got a name 10. Lou Reed - This Magic Moment 11. NOFX - Linoleum 12. Paul Simon - Gumboots / Paranoia Blues 13. Rev Horton Heat - Baby, I’m Drunk 14. Sublime - What happened? Looking forward to seeing you teach a few of these songs. Much Appreciated!
Hey there Marty! I have been watching and actively following you for about 6 years now, and I need something more advanced. I think you could help people like myself with harder lessons. I think it will broaden your audience a lot more if you were to cover music theory, and applying it to genres such as Jazz, Blues, Rock, and so forth. Having more technical lessons that really stretch the capabilities of my guitar playing would be of great help not only for me, but for reaching a greater audience with your guitar videos. I am just starving for something that will truly fill my guitar-hero-wannabe desires. Your lessons were what brought me into playing guitar and as I find myself wanting to take up a career in music because of you, I want to prepare myself for the outside world, and truly dazzle people with my playing. You are an awesome guy, and thanks for teaching me how to play guitar :)
Man everytime i saw that you posted a video i wish thats its learning to fly from pink floyd, thats my fav song anf never had figured out how to play it even if it suppose to be easy. Hoope you will do it one day ❤ keep up the great work and tanx for everything
Damn Marty this is by far the best lesson I have cone across I have subscribed and looking forward to some more work from you again great lesson easy to learn from you thumbs up my man
Great lesson Marty. Appreciate everything you’ve taught me. Main reason I am as advanced as I am today. But can you please do some slash lessons from his new band?
Did anyone else notice the strum pattern is the same as Jane Says by Jane’s Addiction? I guess it doesn’t really matter but I thought it was interesting. Anyway, great work as always Marty!
Thank you for posting this and all of your videos. I remember when this song and album came out. I wore out the cassette tape playing it over and over again. I notice you haven't done any Frank Turner. i'd love to see a video of one of his songs.
You're great! Been learning from you for years. Tom Petty's it's good to be king has been tripping me up. You should do that one. Most of it is easy, but that chorus has me twisted.

Blind Melon maybe one of the most underrated band ever. Such talent. Great song writing. Fantastic band ( and still is a great band). RIP Shannon

Blind melons one of those bands that after all these years you really appreciate and wish there was more music.
RIP Shannon Hoon. God bless us and generations to come with more people and music like you.
Thank you Marty.
I can't believe how many songs Marty has done. I'd say he's the hardest working guitar teacher of the last decade!
20 years later and this is still in my top 5 songs.
As far as slow unique great songs it’s this and release by Pearl Jam. Oh and of course where did you sleep last night by nirvana
Thanks!
Love this one!

Hey Marty your the man! I'd love a "mouthful of cavaties" by blind melon tutorial. Still the Best instructor on UA-cam.
Yaaaaasss!! Love that song!

Stumbled on the band playing this. Had to learn it and knew Marty was the man. Great easy lesson taught with simple passion. Thank you!!
Who else voiced out the harmonica part at the start of the video haha
Just you ah hahhhahha

Sometimes coming home to the easy ones are great. Shannon Hoon, what a voice
The way you keep your explanation simple and yet to the point makes it easy to learn. Thanks Marty!
I just heard this song unplugged on tik Tok. It spoketo me. So much new “old” music comes to me that way these days. Thx for the lesson.
This is one of my favorite songs ever.
OMG how have I only just found this! This song got me through some tough teenage years.
Have been playing guitar for 4 years now, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to contort my hand in such a way that I can hit that high E fifth fret from a G shape 😂
i thought the same but i can probably plug both of my ears with just my fretting hand now, if you give me a few weeks to practice
Never happen with that kind of a mind set Matt.. tell yourself that you can an the body will follow.. I can almost guarantee it bro
I've been trying for the past 8 months, and I finally nailed it down a few weeks ago I believe in you
Everyone talks about the grunge singers and their lead singers. Shannon Hoon is my favorite singer from the 90s. I can't imagine how much bigger they would be if he was alive.
