@ GManPerfected : Thank you very much, bought it on Super Nintendo back then and finished it without help. A lot of try and errors and a lot of different death scenes to watch before finishing it (the funniest part were to guess and later know how much energy the Lasergun had and what the right button sequence in the tank was). Super Battle Toads (saw bike level), Addams Family Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt (especially the Fridge level), Super Ghouls n' Ghost (the perfect difficulty level), on Super Nintendo and on Mega Drive Genesis : Shadow of the Beast, Contra Hard Corps, Ghouls N' Ghost were more difficult games to beat than Another World (also known as Out of this World) but Another World was probably the most original game created that era. And if you search for similarly original games go for Flashback (SNES version), Heart of Darkness (PS1 version), Oddworld Abe's Odyssey and Oddworld Abe’s Exoddus (PS1). Have a nice day.
That proves one thing. It's not the systems capabilities that make it awesome. It's the person or people that use the systems capabilities to it's full potential to make it awesome! To be honest, I think a lot of modern games aren't doing that quite as much.

@@some_doofus Even though there's not really that much to this game, as far as the size of the world (not that many different screens overall), it is very cleverly laid out to make it seem larger than it is. Kudos to the original programmers for figuring out how to make this game fit on a single game floppy (if I remember correctly).
So glad to see this. I've had momentary, vague memories of this game for a few years but couldn't remember what game it was. I did a few random Google searches from what I could remember from the game and came across this video. This game and its sequel are two of the best games I've ever played.
What a wonderful game, conveying that amount of story via such early computing capabilities. Love the minimalistic design. Clearly a precursor to stuff like Abe.

This was a unique game. Though it has hardcore moments and those Laser guns where really freaky. It is a very unique game back in the day that I really wanted to see more of it. Like what happened does he returns to Earth and so on

Thanks for the video. Thank goodness that's over.. I like the story and aesthetics but not so much the extreme difficulty. I like difficult but this was just absurd.
This is the twentieth anniversary version of the game, so it looks so much better... however I agree with your comment, for the time it came out and the effort to create something like that, it's great.
I didn’t have any special feelings for the game itself, but the incompleteness of the story saddened me so much that I’ve been remembering about it for three years now. There is, of course, Axiom Verge, where the prologue is very similar, and the world too, but still feel really sad that there is only prologue and nothing more in AW.
@@burgerface5055 I think it had different names in different markets. Great game and a real mind blower considering the limitations of hardware at the time.

Wish there was a commentary to explain what the heck they were doing at each step. 6:10 he shoots at a wall(there was an enemy there in my version) and at 6:28, that enemy below immediately opens his door and starts firing infinitely as soon as I blow open the door above. Turns out he’s actually shooting a switch on the wall, not the enemy that just hasn’t spawned. 🙄 17:10 That door is still open or already destroyed when I drop down to fight the alien there. 😡

It really does. Great story, cool aesthetics, obnoxious difficulty.
I think that's the way the developers made the game last longer
They had to artificially extend the length of the games back then

This game was so fucking cool when it first came out, and equally difficult.
Wow this game is a short cinematic platformer. The oddworld games take 3 - 5 hours and this takes 20 minutes
I'd say it takes at least 5 hours though because of the difficulty, especially on hard.
