A Bridge Too Far Official Trailer #1 - Sean Connery, Michael Caine Movie (1977) HD
It is near the end of WWII. The Germans have lost most of France, and the Allied forces decide to give them the final hit. They plan to drop thousands of paratroopers in Holland and keep a few key positions there, until reenforcements arrive. The most important spot is the bridge of Arnhem; once it's captured, it can block everything west of Germany
MGM - 1977
What a cast, what a theme.
niewidzialnarekarynku John Addison who scored the film was actually there as part of XXX corps.
Don't forget the Crime cast from F8: The Fate of the Furious, Action cast from the Expendables 2, and Horror cast from Wishmaster!

The CGI is fantastic because is not CGI, is actual scenery.
Good thing we have Captain Obvious we never would have guessed.
Thats what the british guy said
Yes, as if they wouldnt use CGI if it was available.
Epic cgi
It used quite a bit of 70s cgi.
This film never gets old 🙌 no CGI no bullshit just brilliant...enough said
RIP SEAN CONNERY. Modest Scottsman, no arrogant, narcissistic Hollywood-weirdo.
This movie is so underrated
This has all the greats as-well
James Caan, Anthony Hopkins,Sean Connery,Micheal Caine.
Greatest Ensemble Cast of All Time. I think it was poorly reviewed because people were resentful of having to look at such a blatant failure on the Allies' part. I feel that this is one of the most essential, well-crafted war epics.
Don't forget the Crime cast from F8: The Fate of the Furious, Action cast from the Expendables 2, and Horror cast from Wishmaster!
the fact the trailer's voice guy is like "oh yeah robert redfort and anthony hopkins" about 10th or later in the order of announcement is telling lol. what a wildly great movie, performed by a shockingly great great cast!
Also came out in 1977, war wasn't perceived so well still. Wasn't long after Nam
@@superiorsoldier57 Already forgotten.
At the time the film was released in 1977, film critics were sick and tired of so many WWII films that had come out in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s.
I was 13 and saw this in the theater back in 77. Still to this day it's one of my top 5 favorite war films. I used to use the river crossing scene during my NCO leadership training classes. Hollywood usually falls short but in this case, Redford's character displays the epitome of leadership under this most stressful conditions.
I saw the likes of Saving private ryan and enemy at the gates as a child, and while i enjoyed them, i didnt care too much for them.
But i do remember accidentally stumbling upon this movie, and i'm so glad i did.
The sense of suspense and hopelessness towards the end is just too good. dialogue and cinematography are on point too.
+TheSpyChecker If you get a chance mate to visit Arnhem, you want to , its an amazing experience
Nothing to see here mate. lol
I agree. Saving Private Ryan is a load of tripe to my mind. My father's cousin was in the battle, and he trained under Colonel Marshall himself!
Absolutely a timeless classic historically accurate war movie!!! With also a stellar cast!!! Two thumbs up!!!
The cast is insane! How have I never heard of this movie before?
Probably you're just too young. I do remember seeing a lot of advertising for this film in 1977. But it was probably outshined by Star Wars that did almost no ads. At least I don't remember many.
You're right about the cast. Pretty obvious they were going for an epic film to replace "The Longest Day." Oddly enough also with Sean Connery.
If you think the cast was impressive on the trailer, you should look it up online. They didn't even mention half of the stars. They're also a few relatively unknowns at the time that became stars.
Saw this film at the cinema in 1977 i was 11 years old, my old man took me there to watch it as birthday treat and i loved it what a great film.
The description of the scale of the battle was a hyperbolic. No battle in WW2 can match the sheer brutality of the Battle of Stalingrad. What the Market Garden did have however was the most extraordinary feat of bravery in British Military History. A piece of action where Major Robert Caine turned the situation around from certain defeat and capture by the Germans to withdrawing to safety
Man, that cast! They had every classic actor except Troy McClure!
He was busy filming "A Fridge Too Far"
Don't forget the Crime cast from F8: The Fate of the Furious, Action cast from the Expendables 2, and Horror cast from Wishmaster!
John Wayne was a little long in the tooth for this one.
We had this dvd before and keep watching. I love watching classic war films.
Probably my favorite WWII movie.
Man what. A. Cast. This is insane. Bout to watch immediately
War movies of the 60s and 70s were the best.
I remember when it came out so well.....I was in the service and getting so damn sick and tired of Vietnam films........(all negative) I just finished my Para Course in the service and this great movie came out. It showed true spirit and heroism.
In other words: The Sundance Kid, tries valiantly to reach Hannibal Lecter after Peter the Great and a Toy Designer separate him from James Bond. The Jackal and Gonville Bromhead team up with Sonny Corleone and Monica and Ross;s dad to reach Ali McGraw's squeeze before Popeye Doyle and Dr Sparrow fall out. King Henry V pleads for sanity.
David Rendall precisely- this what you call a war film- the cast was stellar!
Excellent summary!! :-)
I still sorta don't get it, I only know that the Sean Connery is James Bond
Brilliant comment and summary
Ha, yes that was quite brilliant...well done.
Spoiler: allies won the war.
but lost this battle. oh well you can't win everything.
Sean Connery still most handsome.
I agree. This battle was NOT one of the Allies' finest hours. I've read Ryan's bestseller--it's worth every military history buffs' time.
Spoiler: allies lost to Bolshevism.
Oh come on i havnt seen that one yet
I want to get up and get some ice cream but that's just A Fridge Too Far.
the soundtrack is so great, classic war lid
Sean Connery's character General Urqhuart was the only Brigade General in The British Army to shoot dead a German in WW2 I think.

Hello Sir. Can you please take some time to mention your top 5 Hollywood movies of all times. Thanks
Great film, but I didn't like how they portrayed Gen. "Boy" Browning (Dirk Bogarde). They made him too narrowminded, opinionated, and overall too "gung ho" about Market Garden. He expressed reservations to Monty about the operation; the narrow road, the paratrooper jump in daylight, having to capture and hold seven bridges simultaneously. He coined the phrase "A Bridge Too Far" because Arnhem bridge was so far away from Nijmegen - about 12 miles between Nijmegen bridge and Arnhem bridge. He could not have seen that only one battalion (commanded by the able Col. John Frost) would actually make it to Arnhem Bridge. Browning was justly concerned about a lightly armed force precariously perched on the other side of a river deep in German-held territory.
A lot of great actors from a great movie.
RIP sean connery😢
lost the battle but won the war
The last WW2 movie will an all star cast. To see Anthony Hopkins play Colonel Frost..and then 15 years later play Hannibal Lechter?
He played all kinds of great, atypical parts before hamming it up as Lecter... "The Lion in Winter", "The Elephant Man", "The Bounty"...
Fabulous movie
Incredible cast

AIRBORNE.....HOLLAND!!!!!
It's a great film although they used some Cold War tanks instead of WW2 tanks. But not nearly as much as in Battle of the Bulge
I have to read the book before watching a movie.
To be honest, the last great movies were made in the early 2000s, I mean, modern movies aren't bad, but there's just less detail, and it doesn't have the same impact.
Is this the Bamber Bridge Lancashire Story ??!🤫🤫
Estou lendo o livro uma ponte longe demais, e falando francamente, Marechal Montegomery errou e muito, principalmente no que se refere ao efetivo inimigo, e a não utilização da resistência para manter a comunicação, e a operacionalidade no cronograma.

This film is criminally underrated! It's one of the most historically accurate world war II films ever and with a great cast and acting too! The filmmakers were committed to history on this one. This along with, the Longest Day, Dunkirk (2017 film), Downfall Das Boot, Letters From Iwo Jima and Saving Private Ryan are among my favourite World War II films
But please the 5h long version of Das Boot.
Add Thin Red Line (1998) and Stalingrad (1993) to the list when you get to see them. The first is partially filmed in Queensland Australia the second is a Bavarian film, but it looks dated for its age meaning the film clarity is not of the same caliber as the Tom Hanks epic that was Saving Private Ryan (1998).
@@RangaTurk What about "The band of brothers" and "The Pacific?" The Executive Producers from the second was Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg and was also filmed in Queensland, Melbourne and Victoria.
@@TheRusty58 That's right, there is much realism in those productions. I'll have to check out Band of Brothers.
Have you watched come and see? I have seen many war movies, but come and see is by far the best in my opinion
Rest in peace Sean Connery.

My uncle paid for all the family to see A Bridge Too Far in its opening week in the UK, way back in the summer of 1977. A huge screen and we had the best seats in the house, too. A great way to see a truly underrated war epic.
I watched this film on opening day. Not many other people did. War movies were still out of favor in '77.
I was 19 when this came out and via my dad a big WW2 movie buff, so the trailer really flashes me back. You are soo right. Few people remember how things were back then. The Vietnam war movie, "Boys of Company C", had a really hard time being funded, when only a few years later Vietnam war flicks were the rage. In this and in "Boys of Company C", they injected allot of "anti war" theme into the script, lots of action, but lots of anti war as well. They said, "a good war movie, is an anti war movie". At the time, I saw this, I was actually very disappointed. The end was so depressing. Then again...I was 19.
@@jjahsepuyeshd It came out forty two years ago, Christ where did time go?
I watched it at sea a while after it came out when I was in the Navy. It's a _long_ movie.
My dad was an extra in this fucking movie. He's sitting behind Robert Redford in the fucking boat when they're crossing the river.
Sony Kroket he got fking blown away!
Nah he survived, even in the movie lol
Saw this at our local cinema with my Dad when I was 9 and I've loved it ever since, 20 years later we took the old man to see Saving Private Ryan; two absolutely brilliant classics...
Same, but I was 11
Outstanding Movie!
And I saw it in the theater just a few weeks before I went to Fort Benning and Jump School. Yayborn!
Edward Fox is superb as Lt General Brian Horrocks. Really captures his charisma and charm.
one of my favourite WW2 films ever
It's my favourite one
+Vel Vadam me too :)
Best WWII film of it's time in my opinion.
Really? In that case I am going to watch it tonight cuz today its 75yrs ago the Netherlands were free'd so its on our tv tonight... 👌👍
And... its recorded in my city.
Btw, thanks to all your grandfathers and fathers who fought in the war to save us from the crazy A.H. man....
When I saw it, I knew this was my new favorite and damn that theme is so damn good, been listening to it for a long time now.
There were so many memorable scenes. Robert Redford and his river crossing (all guts).....The Jump scenes from the DC-3's (The closest you'll get to jumping from an armchair) The fabulous "artillery barrage scene" where 30 Corp lets loose artillery before the advance (the best artillery scene ever) I could go on and on.....a great movie and a great story well told.....
+Fred B. the germans beat tommy out!
Doesn't matter....
An absolutely well made WW2 film
All guns commeeeeence firing
Oh yes the shelling from the 25 pounders was orgasmic. Finally we see dust in a war movie, and the explosions themselves, they are not fuel tank explosions like in movies today (like in Hacksaw Ridge). Movies tend to forget that high explosive shells are different than napalm.
What an impeccable cast. It's such a shame that the Academy Awards ignored the film, perhaps due to the sentiment over the depicted lost of the Allied Forces; they may have lost the battle, but they still won the war.
Considering who they've actually given awards to, I believe it would be disgraceful to have the "high honor" bestowed on that film. Good films don't need "awards" from some phony "academy," for crying out loud.

Are you saying Annie Hall is not a good film?
At the time the film was released in 1977, film critics were sick and tired of so many WWII films that had come out in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s.
The critics are definitely wrong about A Bridge Too Far.
Monty lost battle when he came up with the damned hair brained scheme
This is one of the greatest war films ever made.
When I first saw it at the cinema in 1977, I hated it. Since then I have come to enjoy this film, every time I watch it.
A great cast for a clasic film. Same thing goes for the Longest Day(also by Cornelius Ryan) . I wonder what cast they would use if they made a film about his last WWII book The Last Battle?
My Great Granddad fought in this battle!
Notice that the preview is made for a much longer attention span than we have today!!
The most accurate war movie I’ve ever seen. The book is a great read as well
We lost a battle but won the war and never forget that.
There's other cast including: James Caan (Rollerball and Misery), Gene Hackman (No Way Out) and Anthony Hopkins (Audrey Rose and The Silence of the Lambs).

I want to watch this but the audio of the gunfire is so off putting it just sounds goofy like straight out of a Looney Toons cartoon.
Wow. Literally all the legendary male stars in one movie.
Someone should tell Batman and Superman Lex and Alfred were war buddies with Hannibal Lecter.
Oh look, he’s not pointing the gun directly at the camera person. A lesson for current day actors.
How many top tier actors are in this film? Wow.
After Das Boot this is my second most favourite war films. Awesome.
But please the 5h long version of Das Boot.
Great movie with an all-star cast!
I didn't recognize Colonel Frost as Anthony Hopkins who later played Hannibal Leckter in 'Silence of the Lambs' just as I didn't recognize Frenchie from 'The Sand Pebbles' who was played by Richard Attenborough. He played Bartlett 'Big X' in 'The Great Escape'. He seemed shorter and had gained some weight. Then again, he was older. Steve McQueen was the main character in that flick. This was another great movie. Many subplots in an insurrection (The Boxer Rebellion) setting not really as well-known like WWII. On that note, I recommend '55 Days at Peking' with Charlton Heston, David Niven, and Ava Gardner. It shows the involvement of foreign governments whose armies fight against the Chinese Boxers who want to remove all foreigners from China. Great cinematography-Battle scenes with many extras as there was no CGI at the time 😁
