I remember a Captain Jewel Melvin who had a nice operation, running charter boats, but this was way back in the early 70's. We often stayed at the old Frangista Motel, not far from the Museum of the Sea and Indian. Yep, I am old...
As a former Destinite who hasn't been back in over 11 years and now lives in Aberdeen, WA, thank you for this beautiful and wonderful expose' of my ole stomping ground! So great to see what it looks like now - many more resort condo's and sportfish sleds for sure! And unexpectedly, thanks for showcasing Harbor Docks and Charles Morgan - mainline Destin at it's heart and my all-time fav place! Will always remember when it opened back in 79 and my brother worked there for quite a few years. Best place in town as far as I'm concerned and I miss it to this day! Back when Dad was alive, we'd all pull up to the end of the dock in the Luhrs 50, tie her off, amble in to great food and cold beers, and just sit and feel lucky that we lived where we did! Back in the days of ole' Marina Pointe and fledgling Harry T's before the Emerald Grande and the overcrowded Harborwalk touri haven!
We traded lives. Former Seattle native now living in Destin (and on the Emerald Coast) for the Air Force. It is a *different beautiful* here, for sure. But I miss the rain mist and smell of evergreen trees.
Awesome Video! All the stories are so heartfelt. Thank you! Destin is a beautiful place and all those who lived/live there was/are blessed with beautiful waters with abundance of food for the body and recreation for the soul.
I used to vacation in Destin in the late 80s as a kid with my family. There was not much there. Sandestin Resort and a few small hotels. I drove through in 2022 and did not recognize it. It was a wall to wall zoo. Ruined. Thats too bad.

This is exceptional work. I have been coming here for 35+ years (at Blue Mountain Beach right now) and did not know most of this. Thanks!
