It's an outstanding place. The trail road is unbelievably long, insanely long, but worth it in the end. An absolutely amazing area. Check the current fire outside of Salmon ID for potential damaging concerns - although I don't think it's moved into this area.
It's nice to see this. About 1990 I hiked from the TH to Welcome Lake, where a bear terrorized the campsites, and then the next day to Ship Island via Wilson Lake, Fishfin Ridge and Birdbill Lake. Day three I hiked out and drove to Challis and had a nice big hamburger.
It's a really wonderful area. Sounds like you had a hell of a trip as well. Stick around for more.
Great video, any bear activity or any other wildlife. did you get to do any fishing?
Elia, no bear activity. While they’re definitely out here, I think they’re pretty rare in this area due to the noise of the boats/planes. OR side they’re more common higher up. No signs of bear at all. The elk, bighorns and turkeys were the big ones. Lots of geese and a few eagles and other birds. Nothing else though. Rattlesnakes will be out soon though and deer of course would be your next common other animal out there. No fishing for me personally. I’m usually pretty tired at the end of a day and just don’t really want to pack it, but there is ample opportunities to fish and for big fish too.
Hiking hungover is the worst! Been there. Been all over Idaho but have yet hit the Bighorn Crags. This summer it is happening. Looks incredible!
Yeah, it's not great. Not my first choice. Although, I have more experience with that then I should 🤣. Thanks for watching though man! That area is outstanding. You're going to love it.
My buddy wants to get to the North Cascades this summer for one of his final stamps and thereby completing all the U.S. National Parks. I mentioned the Sahale Arm camp/hike. So last night I asked him if he had heard of the Big Horn Crags here in Idaho. Since he just moved here (not from Commiefornia) he had not so I showed him footage of the area and Fishfin Ridge. I have been studying the North and South Selway Bitterroot maps and the interior of the River Of No Return Wilderness including the Big Horn Crags. I have to get up there considering it's not that far from us. I would love to summit Mount McGuire. Since there are no topo maps of the Big Horn Crags in feet, I am going to customize one on MyTopo. Nice video. Great idea on the disc golf. I wonder if they make a super light packable basket for making your own woods course.
Thanks for watching! I live in WA and still have yet to backpack the North Cascades! I'll probably change that this year though. The Big Horn Crags is incredible though! This journey is no doubt the route to take if you go. Check out my other Frank Church Wilderness video for some additional thoughts and ideas. There's an entire lifetime of backpacking in ID. The frisbee golf is always a blast. As you can see, we just use landscape items as baskets. Trees, rocks, branches etc. I'll have a dozen more videos this year. Thanks again for watching!
@@tweedytreks Yes, Idaho is a vast terrain of roadless mountains! One of, if not the most mountainous states in the lower 48. I forgot the entire Caribou-Targhee forests in Idaho and Wyoming up the flanks of the Grand Tetons. Planning on maybe summitting the Grand Teton this summer as well with Mt. Breitenbach, Mt. Borah and Diamond Peak in the Lemhi and Lost River Ranges. Yes I will check out more of your videos. Maybe we'll cross paths in the North Cascades this summer!
