    Awesome review! I feel like Maarten is a combination of Mr. Rogers and Bob Ross, but with a ton of great knowledge about cameras. The videos are just super enjoyable to watch, even if one isn't interested in the camera in question. Clearly a lot of hard work and passion goes into these - great stuff!

    Great video mate. I absolutely agree Fujifilm needs to step up their game on recording time (and battery time at the same time). I’m using GH5 mostly because it’s been the only camera that can record continuously for as long as I need. 4K HEVC 10-bit 3 hour shoot? No problem. I hope Fujifilm will do it too.

    Another outstanding review and guide by Maarten who is the pre-eminent expert in this field, not just on UA-cam but the entire internet. Thank you for such a brilliant review. One thing I don't quite understand is the current concern by many about video clip longevity. I don't recall seeing a single YT video, or feature film, past or present, that has a single clip or scene on one camera that is more than a couple of minutes long, and even that is unusual. With such sophisticated editing software nowadays, I cannot see that ten minutes at 4k or any other mode is a problem, and I would rather this prevented heat build up than possibly over-heating the sensor. The average UA-cam clip is barely more than a few seconds before cutting to another scene!

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  4 роки тому

      Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. I assume you don't shoot much video.
      First, it's not always about a single take/clip - although mine do get kind of long - ua-cam.com/video/kCG0QBRFEpE/v-deo.html
      It's about continuous recording, which if you've set up the camera and are doing a bunch of takes, it would be nice not to have to start and stop continuously. it's also about recording performances - juggling a concert recording is complicated, trying to get the right break between sections/songs to record an entire set.
      But the real problem is that it's arbitrary and unnecessary.

    I’ll be using it mostly for video, hopefully it doesn’t overheat all the time and won’t let me work. Next year I’m planning on getting the xt4 or the xt5 as my main camera, but I think this is a perfect camera to give the first steps into the professional video market.

      @@MaartenHeilbron I re-watched the video with sub-titles and the second time was the charm. I'm much more comfortable with the T30 and understand even more. Here are a few of the areas that left me with questions and comments.
      1. Can you do a video on how you personally set up your custom settings?
      2. Do you think that a future update from Fuji will make the touchpad swipes more reliable? Do you use them?
      3. How exactly is DOF Preview used? Couldn't figure it out.
      4. Do you recommend RAW compressed or uncompressed? Do the additional pixels in the uncompressed files make a difference and how?
      5. I have been using your Auto ISO settings. When using the Auto 1 for sunny shots, the camera seems to shoot at around 300 ISO. Is there benefit to just use 160 on sunny days?
      I'm sure I have more but that's enough to bother you with. Thanks so much. I made a quantum leap in tuning this camera to my needs after watching your video twice.

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  5 років тому

      1) That is on my to-do list, but the X-T20 is about the same ... ua-cam.com/video/WknLF_pCrbI/v-deo.html
      2) I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software thing - yes, I do for ISO and film sim. They not 100% but enough to be usable.
      3) By default, the aperture is wide open to compose/focus. To see a preview, assign it to a button, then press it to have the aperture closed to the selected setting. This shows the actual depth of field at the aperture.
      4) Either is fine, I'm sure you'll find people happy to argue the find details, but I'm not fussed about those issues. On the other hand, my mantra is go big - so I generally use uncompressed.
      5) There might be some. I get it to use 160, so not sure ... what's your DR setting?
      Hope this helps,
      Maarten

    Your reviews are FANTASTIC! I love the amount of detail you include. Thank you so much! Any chance you can tell just your closest 70,000 friends which way you'd lean between the a6400 and the X-T30? I have an X-T30 that I'm considering returning (it has to be returned by 4/21) because I'm not 100% satisfied with it. I shoot all jpeg, mostly pictures of my family and pets. Probably 75% of the pics are indoors in less than perfect lighting (i.e. regular indoor lighting). I've found the Fuji's Face Detect can be spotty in indoor lighting, when the subject is wearing glasses or a hat (even outside), and when there is more than one face or obstructions. I'm also frustrated by the Q button. However, the color I'm getting when I have the focus correct is fantastic and the AWB is always spot on (even in tricky lighting conditions). I'm considering the a6400 because of how amazing the AF is on it (based on your review and others and playing around with it in Best Buy), but my previous camera was a Sony NEX 5R, and I was never happy with the White Balance or jpeg colors. I played with an a6000 and also didn't like the jpeg colors/AWB with that. Regarding lenses, I see pluses and minuses with both systems - I think Sony has one of the best all in one travel zooms in their 18-135, but Fuji has better APS-C primes in ranges I'd use (I love the 27mmF2.8; I can't find a good Sony equivalent). Thanks!

    Great video! Would you recommend it over the X-T20 for an enthusiast who shoots mostly stills (street, portraits, travel)? Prices have gone down on the X-T20 and I'm not sure the X-T30 is worth the extra $$ for the same/slightly better image quality...

    Thank you. Another really helpful video. I bought the camera and really like it. I'm slowly teaching my thumb not to hit the Q button on the thumb rest, but I feel strongly that Fuji got this one wrong. Losing four programmable buttons in favour of touchscreen swipes is also troublesome, as I'm no fan of touchscreens, but perhaps I just need to adapt. The rest is fantastic. I'm curious to get your views on how it compares with the Sony A6400 too...

    Thank you for this great in-depth Review!. I am still not sure if I should go with the xt30 18-55 + an additional lens 35mm for example (ore just one great lens) Or the Xt3 +18-55 - I will be using it with the Mavic mini drone and GoPro hero 7 black. Mainly for travel + Street photography & video . I am not that expert when it comes video making but want to start working on creating travel videos and instagram videos. which one would you recommend. is the only 30fps in video and not weather sealed really a down side? Hi Maarten - I have just discovered your channel here and have been doing quite a bit of research on making a camera purchase. I come from a film / analog background so I find the direct dial aspect of Fuji my preference. I viewed both T30 and your S10 review as well. I'm familiar with the PASM dial but I'm thinking from reviewing this video that the T30 ll is more direct dial friendly vs Menu search / setting of the S10? I had a T20 previously and was happy with it (except that the shallow grip). I don't do video. Am I headed the right direction?

      Thank you for your kind words. To be honest, I usually slide my glasses up, and adjust the diopter to suit my prescription. When shooting with glasses, particularly on a viewfinder that provides a larger image may limit the amount of the screen that you see. This is not specific to this camera, or to Fujifilm EVFs. I recommend that you visit your local dealer to try it out.

My purchases have concentrated on additional glass and only last week I picked up my Fujinon XF 50-140mm lens. I can work well within the ten minute limit, but I’m afraid of becoming frustrated with the overheating factor. The Rokinon I am thinking about getting is the 100 mm f2.8 macro. As I am sure you know, it’s a fully manual lens so I was concerned about those very important features when using manual focusing. Sorry for the length of this! I've been watching your videos and find them straight-forward and thorough, so thank you! I have been a Sony user for over 15 years, have loved my A65V DSLR but moved to mirrorless because of shoulder and back problems (I need a lighter camera). I ended up with the A6000 a couple years ago. While it's a great portrait camera with the prime lens I got, I was only able to afford the kit zoom and it just isn't doing it for me. I do a lot of nature photos and action photos of my dogs, so I need a good length lens. Rather than get the A6400, where I'd have to buy a new lens anyway, I decided I would jump into the Fuji world. The X-T30 is in my price range and I can get it, a prime and telephoto lens for less than just the lens for the Sony. My question is, will the Fuji 100-400mm overpower the X-T30 and cause a great deal of imbalance? Thank you!
