They could definitely do with making things clearer , as like I said before they were indeed re-classified into Cat A with the compromise for UK manufacturers being that existing licence holders would get a provisional Cat A entitlement added to their licence upon renewal allowing them to ride motor tricycles. If this has been updated to include licences after 2013 is unknown to me as I have not seen anything to the contrary. B1 being the category the Robin fell into because of its low weight with as you say motor tricycles being either Cat B or B1 depending on their weight. It makes sense that 3-wheeled vehicles require a motorcycle licence given most of them don't derive from cars and a car licence simply doesn't make someone safe to ride them. The reason for your sporty sounding exhaust is because you've got the 4 into 1 tubular branch manifold (as opposed to the cast iron manifold fitted normally, though E "yellow top" engines did have 4 branch manifolds) which if combined with a 1,1/2" full flow system does give a very "rorty" sound to the exhaust, it could be an aftermarket setup, but also could be factory as Reliant at that time could not get cast iron manifolds so had a prominent (can't remember the name) performance exhaust company fabricating the manifolds/exhausts. Watched your previous video on your carb repair, the pipework connected to the float bowl and the engine breather system is for the carb overflow cum mixture enrichment and the 2 pipes exiting through the front engine bay panel should loop round under the front bodywork to a bowl clipped to the metal of the A post in front of the passenger side door, the pipes have to be connected the right way round (carb overflow to the float controlled pipe, other to breather T piece, also check the float as the bowl is very susceptible being in the position it is ---- you could be unlucky and it's missing altogether which is quite common) or you can get weird carburetion problems.
I have long toyed with fitting a 4 branch to mine, I did also toy with the company's cherry bomb but unless my newish exhaust gives up its not a burning question right now with regasketing sump and timing cover the big next thing for me to tackle plus tracking down errant wiring issues such as front right indicator seems to be part time but I cannot find the fault but it must be between repeater and front lamp as repeater and rear indi works perfectly.
Thanks yes found that overflow bowl where you said it was, think the points need a little tweak but don't want to mess with it to much as it's running ok at the moment, thanks for advice
@@dodgydruid Only just seen your reply, although the 4 branch manifold is a nice bit to have you can get some reasonable results with the iron manifold by grinding the manifold ports to match the inlet/exhaust gasket (usually the manifold ports are very undersize compared to the gasket ---- bolt the old gasket to the manifold for a pattern to grind to is easiest) and if you stuff the ports in the head they can be opened up to match also, conversely on the inlet side the restriction there is usually the inlet/exhaust gasket which on a new one benefits from having the port holes in the gasket enlarged to match the inlet manifold ports, after that match the exhaust manifold to downpipe port to the gasket and have a 1,1/2" bore pipe made (standard made exhausts generally "neck down" next to the flange to 1,1/4" or even 1" ----- i'd have to look but i did have 5, 1,1/2" flanges laser cut if you need a flange) with either a cherry bomb (bit loud on a long drive) or a standard straight through absorption type muffler under the back end. You don't say which model you've got (robin mk1, rialto or robin mk2) but your indicator fault sounds like either bad contacts in the light unit or if you've got bullet connectors for the unit to harness join the actual bullet connector can be corroded (don't just try to pull them apart as you'll pull the bullets off the wires --- get a pair of combination pliers and towards each wire end of the connector, squeeze it with the round section of the jaws, if it crunches then the metal sleeve is corroded and hopefully the corrosion is now broken which should allow you to pull them apart) and wants replacing giving them a spray with dielectric silicone grease. hope this helps.
