An eclectic group of characters set sail on Captain Lansen's (Portman) leaky cargo ship in an attempt to escape their various troubles. When a violent storm strikes, the ship is swept into the Sargasso Sea and the passengers find themselves trapped on an island populated by man-eating seaweed, giant crabs and Spanish conquistadors who believe it's still the 16th century.
Adapted by Michael Carreras from the novel Uncharted Seas by Dennis Wheatley.

Just like so many others here, I FINALLY FOUND IT!. Watched on TV around 1969, I was blown away, forgot all about it, then remembered about a year ago. I searched everything I could think of on the internet, no luck. What brought me here was a post on Facebook, Thanks to "Woodstock Counsel of Elders tribe #1969". Will re watch this weekend, Woo-Hoo!
Brings back childhood memories! Loved this movie so much, we kept watching it over and over whenever it came on.
"I finally found it!" has been posted a few times already and same here. All I really remembered was the grounded ships in the fog and especially the scene at 1:49 where the guy gets fed to the sea creature, at which point my dad had had enough and dragged me out of the theater. I've been trying to pin down this this movie off and on for ages.
I saw this movie when I was a kid circa 1978 and stayed up late on a Saturday night. The only thing I remember about this was the people putting balloons on their backs to walk on the seaweed I think so they would not be eaten by them. Was the feature movie of a program called Creature feature show hosted by Bob Wilkins on channel 2 San Francisco Bay area. He was the host of the children's afternoon cartoon line up as Captain Cosmic.
yo recorde exactamente la misma escena , siempre por años, pero la vi años mas tarde alrededor de 1988-1990
I was 6 and this movie scared the hell out of me. LOL
Scared me when I was 12 LOL
I saw this movie late night and all the lights were out.
That green eyed crab scared the hell out of me.
Me to me to
i hated the scene where they threw the guy into a pit. lol
The WASPs (Washington State Patrol) took all the valley "crossing guards" to a swim-BBQ-Movie as school let out. We saw this and a Rachael Welsh B movie in "1976"
Saw it as a small kid in the 70s and those weird monsters really was disturbing..was trying to search for this movie (didnt know the title) and now I traced it!
Banned in Boston, we used to say. It was banned and attempts made to keep it from being played, but not because of the "Balloon Girl", but because of the power of the cigarette industry. It's amazing that this film got past the first censors, because two characters are killed as soon as they light cigarettes. That has NEVER happened in any film, and it was NEVER allowed to happen in any film at one time. That's as risk taking as one could get in 1968, to challenge the tobacco industry.
Love this movie, had forgotten the title since I saw it in the 70's and finally tracked it down a few years ago. Very imaginative and interesting setting. Would love to see a remake, but it would probably get butchered nowadays with massive CGI.
Saw it on the CBS Late Night Movie back in the '70's and just loved it. All those rubbery monsters!
Always loved this movie, quirky special fx make it somehow better
a super film with Eric Porter in fine form & absolute bizarre & excellent horror.
Finally! I found it! I couldn't remember the name of this movie since I was a kid. The internet is so awesome to revisit childhood memories! Thanks for this post! I loved stuff like this with people eating monsters and mayhem! Lol
NOOO NOT THE MONSTER WEED!!! NOOOOO! I love this movie by the way.
I found it ! I thought I might have imagined it . My parents let me and my friends go watch this at the theatre when I was 8 .
No wonder I’m afraid of seaweed . Lol
It's so fun - that's what movies should be
Hey I saw this on TNT many many years ago when I was a child!
Really like the gray/brown colors in this. Ominous as all hell.
Excellent movie from the psychedelic 1960s, so very colourful. Unusual story, all interesting characters, good effects, and satisfying ending.
Love this movie
I wish someone would upload this to youtube
it's currently on Bit
Chute... sorry I have to break that word into 2 comments otherwise YT removes it lol... but you get the idea. it's the lost continent 1968
i saw this at the local drive-in in the second grade (1969 - 1970 school year). i was either 7 or 8. later i would see it again on the cbs late show. i found it quite thrilling. back in the days of animatronics in films i USED to wish they would remake this, but now with cgi ... they should just leave it alone!
No doubt in my mind that Stephen King got his basic idea for his book, The Mist, from this movie.
They really should do a quality remake of this Hammer film.
I watched this again recently and really...Eric Porter and Hildegarde Neff were really good. They were believable and sympathetic. The rest of the movie is pretty cheesy but in a very fun way.
She was very very good. I had no idea she was a known singer at the time.
Hey, that's the Sarlacc...
Amusingly, Nigel Stock's character, Dr. Webster, can be seen reading an Arrow paperback copy of 'Uncharted Seas', by Dennis Wheatley, which the movie is based on.
I love the theme music, and, of course, was fascinated by Dana Gillespie's massive balloons.
What? 😆😆😆
I REMEMBER I SAW THAT MOVIE WHEN I WAS 10 YEARS OLD ...
Love Boat on Acid.
crazy nice plot.
I had a ridiculous crush on Dana Gillipespie and her ridiculous balloons.
+Andy R
You can have Dana Gillespie, I'll take brassy blonde Suzanna Leigh. She was a quite a tasty babe back in them days.
+scotpens
She was fighting the Monster Weed!
LOL!
+Andy ;
Every young male back in the day loved those big balloons!
+7DARKHELLS
Best line in the whole picture is when the Captain says, "Now we go where the weed takes us."
Considering how weird and trippy this film is, I don't think he meant seaweed!
@@scotpens And she obviously puts out which is always a plus!
As a young kid i thought this Movie was super cool and scary !
Love this movies
Love this movie saw it back in the 80s when I was about 14 one late night
love the film, real classic, but for most it might not work. it's one of those films that's based on a writing (i think uncharted seas), which is simply better on paper (kinda like hp lovecraft's own writings), but simply can't be made into a film. it weirds people out and goes over their head. a lot of kids in the 80s (like myself) were shown this film by their dad or simply caught it on TV somehow, were intrigued by the seaweed monster pit or other bits, and simply came back to look at it again later on in life xD
1:54 Sarlac pit from Star Wars
Epic HAMMER
William Hope Hodgson lives
You know what maybe I’ll get it for Christmas 🎄 on DVD 📀
That'd be sweet if they made a remake of this, same time period just modern dat filming
I think Guillermo del Toro could do the original film justice if he directed the remake.
back in the days of animatronics in films i USED to wish they would remake this, but now with cgi ... they should just leave it alone!
No remakes, please.
That man-eating seaweed just got to me. Ugh.
Saw it when I was a kid
glad am in this era lol
Ein Qualitätsfilm.
Is this the film where the group encounters giant snapping turtles on the beach?
Not too many people are aware that this was a documentary
That's funny!
"Now we go where the Weed takes us..."
That line pretty much sums up the entire movie!
Does anyone know the name of this movie? I'm pretty sure the guy didn't say.
As a kid I remember this trailer like yesterday... I WANTED SO BAD TO SEE IT
is this available on d.v.d ?
I liked it
not seen this but it looks good fun
This film is so bad that its addictive.
Like watching a cyst being squeezed.
Well put.
No wonder Jake was so scare after seeing this in is teen. 19.
Dana Gillespie. Oh my.
I was more a fan of Suzanna Leigh. I've always had a thing for sexy English blondes.
Not streaming anymore
The monsters were pretty digusting in this outing.
A new H.P. Lovecraft movies.
I am El Supremo.
Just goes to show- even Eric Portman had to make a living.....
Eric Porter
Yeah. Just my kind of slease
When I was a kid I thought the chicks were hot but those balloons made me lol every time I saw them.
It was quirky and creepy when I was a teen. Now, it's just simply really, really bad. Maybe the worst Hammer has ever done.
⚓⛴
with the pretty German singer / actress Hildegarde Neff She is on youtube singing a German cover of the song Mack the Knife I think she was sexy
Hildegarde Neff was quite a looker in her younger days. Unfortunately, when she made this picture she was in her mid-forties and starting to look like Klaus Kinski in drag.
I ❤😊WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE!! PLEASE U P L O A D S O O N!!
Lol, not exactly paradise, eh?
Could've been better
This dumb movie scared the beejeebus out of 6yo me.
