Untold Stories of Gujjars of Kashmir | Life of Gujjar Bakarwal | Unseen Jammu & Kashmir 2023

Gujjars are a shepherd community in the Indian Himalayas. Gujjar community in Kashmir are also called the Bakarwals, in Himachal they’re called Gaddi Gujjar while considered simply as Gujjars in Uttarakhand. These Gujjars are different from the Gujjar caste of Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Gujjar Bakarwals of Kashmir spend the winter in the lower region and summer in the forests and mountains of Kashmir valley.
Gurjar is an agricultural ethnic community, residing mainly in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan divided internally into various clan groups. They were traditionally involved in agriculture, pastoral and nomadic activities . The historical role of Gurjars has been quite diverse in society: at one end they have been founders of several kingdoms and dynasties and, at the other end, some are still nomads with no land of their own.
The Gurjars and Bakerwals tribes of Jammu and Kashmir were declared a Scheduled Tribe (ST) in 1991. At the 2001 census, they were found principally in Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Kishtwar district. It is believed that Gurjars migrated to Jammu and Kashmir from Gujarat (via Rajasthan) and Hazara district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Uncle's knowledge seems to be correct but basically gujjars migrated from European countries especially Georgia and settled in Pakistan India Afghanistan and other Asian countries therefore it is cleared by the haplogroup(R5A) of gujjars which is same in Afghanistan,Pakistan,India.

I am a kashmiri gujjar migrated to a town for studies but i have spent my childhood in our village with my grandparents , we still have a charkha there , i used to spend all my holidays there till class 8th , now m in college . The chulha or the fire place u see in this vid is still prominent instead of the modern inductions , lifes way easier there than these modern struggles , the peace we seek here just gets to u itself there , u wont have to put efforts to fix ur sleep cycle as u urself will b sleeping before 9pm and up by urself at fajr , thats the beauty of the culture and the surroundings ❤️
