  • Tag along to Los Angeles for a behind the scenes visit with esteemed interior designer and writer David Netto. See how David lives in his iconic Silver Lake house designed by legendary modernist architect Richard Neutra. While David, a Harvard Architecture School drop out, bows reverentially to Neutra’s genius, you’ll see how he, with help from designer friend, the late Paul Fortune, transformed the spartan spaces into a warm and friendly family home for today. Learn how David infused elements of European modernism (including pieces from Arp, Lalanne and Jean-Michel Frank, to name a few) into this quintessential California modernist architecture for a casual and eclectic style. Watch David explain how for Neutra, melding inside and out, including the sound of water, was an essential component of his design, fundamental to his concept of well being in temperate California. And see how David is not afraid to bring color and a few eccentric decorative surprises to his strong architectonic game. With a deep dive of intellectual rigor and a healthy respect for the house’s illustrious position in the annals of design, David manages to bring the past forward with elegance, comfort and distinctive style. You’ll be inspired, informed and entertained!! For more visit quintessenceblog.com

I agree, this style comes in second on my most hated list. The wall to wall tartan rug and the walls orange and red in the same room SOUND terrible. I guess any style, if done properly can be beautiful. Maybe MCM looks stark not cozy enough for me, but he made it work. These rooms look welcoming and friendly....somehow.

  • @thespace2983

I love MCM, and this man took it to another level. The outdoors practically entrenching indoors, the African rug, the sculptures throughout are divine, but what he did to his bedroom floor with the Scottish tartan, I gasped with awe. How brilliant. The pop of color did it for me. Thank you another stunning home😍

What fun! I love how unpretentious he is and that the home, for all of its history and style, is one that a family truly lives in and that nothing is too precious. Even better is the lush, multi-layered landscape with water features and best if all, a trampoline for the kids, little ones and big ones. Homes are there to be fully lived in and this one clearly is.

This is insane! I just watched the David Netto lecture at Harvard just a couple weeks ago! It was quite interesting, and there was a documentary he mentioned at the end called "Concert of Wills" about the construction of the Getty Museum. I had never seen it and it is not on UA-cam. I'm hoping he might consider constructing a channel of his own on UA-cam that is like a classroom, and he could upload some documentaries he thinks would be educational. But I know he must be very, very busy. Thanks for this wonderful video!
