If, for instance, his dad was terminally ill and hospitalised, then there's only so much time they could be spending together, and the dad might not have even been conscious toward the end. In that case, having an escape that (a) demands all your attention while doing it and (b) lends a sense of normalcy can be immensely helpful.

Feels kinda weird to see that Infestation game covered (albeit lightly mockingly), since I first heard about it under its original title, "Infestation 88", where the 88 stands for what you think it does (but also the year it was set in), the whole thing a lightly-veiled reference to the Holocaust.
Went looking to see if anyone left this comment. There's no hard evidence yet but a game about gassing your enemies who are monstrous rats infesting a place sounds a little iffy even before you get into the plethora of 14s and 88s all over their stuff. Also they definitely used AI voices and did some asset flipping but that feels like small potatoes compared to the rest.

We're so sorry!" could possibly get those folks off the scent or get me the least bit interested at this point, and it just garnered an extra round of publicity for the developer/publisher which, frankly, may've been the point all along. I'd've ignored it entirely… except it came up in media I enjoy, and I really think vile stuff like this shouldn't be granted oxygen. Upon a day or so's reflection, I'm still pretty disappointed in LRR for granting it that oxygen: surely another example could've been chosen for the story in question. Oh well.

As a non-american I always enjoy when people bring their own cultural experiences into their international content instead of ironing out anything that's not strictly us American. Our online world is just a tiny bit richer for that.
Watching Blue Scuti play in person is like watching Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, or Sachin Tendulkar in their prime. I was lucky enough to watch the Classic Tetris World Championships in person this past year, in which Scuti finished 3rd, and I knew at the time I was in the presence of true greatness. I was also at the famous 'shrug game' where Michael Jordan went off in the NBA Finals against the Blazers despite having the flu. There was a feeling I felt that day that I felt again watching Scuti. He's going to redefine this esport. I'm proud to be part of the Scute Swarm.

I'm glad the kid had this success at 13. I get RSI off platformers, and have since, according to steam, I last played Super Meat Boy in late 2015. I was in my 30s then, and I have to go with something way less punishing to play... Souls-Likes! (Possible caveat, Jedi Survivor is, in the latter half of the game, introducing me to not-quite-random crashes, which does spiritual damage to me, the player.)
