We cannot have presence in top-3 without an integrated steel industry. We still don’t have our own Integrated Steel Mill. The other challenge is electricity rates which was one of Hanjin’s main concerns when they were still operating in PH.

@@alma09876not really yellow effect, it was the neglect of the government to make contingencies on this issue. Always remember, when Cory finished her term, it was Ramos then ERAP and then GMA which were not yellows honestly speaking. Learn your history

Ramos was "yellow" and his party especially during his time was Liberal.
Plus much of it is indeed a "yellow effect" since it was Cory who did these things that caused the problem:
      - closing BNPP and creating the whole anti-nuclear movement which spread fake news and outright lies about nuclear power.
      - creating the 60:40 ownership split rule which made our country unappealing to foreign investors.
      - basically starting and enabling the whole "union" groups and was the start in giving them uncontrolled power that created problems with the foreign investors.
As for the steel sector, Cory was also part of the problem but was not the main one.
She started the trend of ignoring these vital sectors in favor of social welfare plans instead of boosting the economy.

I think the arrival and departure of Hanjin Heavy Industries says something about the Philippine labor market, which is unique in world. It has a high level of educated technical and engineering workers, including supervisory and managerial staff, at a relatively low cost (it's not about unskilled cheap labor). Labor force utilization rates are low, so it is not difficult to grow a workforce of 33,000 in a decade. What is unique though is that the Philippines can lose 33,000 well-paid industrial jobs and just shrug it off, no national hysteria or labor disputes. I imagine many of the skilled staff went abroad at least for a while, so the Overseas Filipino Worker sector provides a large safety valve for fluctuations in labor demand.

PH is the 4th biggest shipbuilder.
Proceeds to talk about Hyundai heavy industries and some American investment bank joint venture.
Then proceeds to talk about a Japanese and South Korean company which are responsible for most of the production in pH.
Unless pH has at least one world class company or has the tech and know how to do it themselves and ACTUALLY does it under a pH owned company, you can't really claim all this as pH achievement while also directly comparing and ranking them alongside Japan and Korea and China. That should be counted as Japanese or Korean company and thus their output.
It's like claiming China is responsible for apple since they make most apple products in china. Or if china decides to setup a BYD factory in Mexico or India, that is not China's achievement and now suddenly Mexico or India is a world class player in EV. LOL. The mental gymnastics pH people will go to is insane, just like India who claims Americans of Indian ethnicity as their own Bharats achievements lol.
The funniest part is pH can't even make their own ships for their own navy. They need to buy it from Korean Hyundai heavy industries.
The ones they build in Philippines are probably low tech commerical vessels. Korea isn't going to share the most advanced tech and know how with others or give ph technology transfer for free. PH doesn't have that kind of clout. Only China can make deals like "if you want to use our cheap skilled labor, you must do tech transfer and your company in China must also be a joint venture with profits shared. I doubt pH has such deals and is just being used for cheap menial labor. Not even skilled since they simply don't have the skills and why would Korea teach such skills to another country when they are also in the industry and competing at home still. They will just undercut themselves.
