- My best friend called me and said, "Kiva, I need help immediately." So naturally, I hopped on a plane and got to work. For this project, we had no plan, a small budget, and few existing pieces to work with. I made this video to show you what a realistic interior design project could look like when you're dealing with a tight budget because real interior design doesn't look like HGTV makeovers for everyone! In the end, I decided to gift them these updates :), but we still kept a tight budget.

I love how you guys did a spontaneous project that was more realistic to how a lot of people operate. I analyze things to death for weeks and drive myself crazy. This was a cool concept! Love how you’re keeping it real. Great job.
Kiva, since the curtains are good, would you recommend just hanging them high and on regular rods? Seems like they are not meant for a track system? The make over is beautiful! HGTV needs to give you a show with this concept. 3 days, minimal budget. Kinda like the old Trading Spaces but with no annoying neighbors, just you.😂
Gurlllllll, I love that you showcased an unfinished space! I feel like it can sometimes be a hidden taboo in the design world to do that, but I don't think it should be. I'm also loving this entire transformation. The blue with the gold is it for me!!! Well done :)

James - I suggest you try out "daylight" lightbulbs (rather than "softwhite" which is yellow light) which are a true white lightbulb. The color of the light can make a huge difference - you may think your bulbs aren't producing yellow light, but when you put in a K5000 bulb you will totally see the difference (the K number is a technical designation of the color of the light produced by the bulb). I currently have Cree brand from home depot but there are other inexpensive brands that have K5000 bulbs - they are usually labeled "daylight". look on the package and it will say K5000 (although in my experience of them they look actually like the K4000 or K4500 I have had several years ago (when K4000 or K4500 were rare and expensive)).
You don't want daylight bulbs in your bedroom. They interrupt the production of melatonin.
That blue is so perfect. Also love the wall of curtains, such a nice softening effect for a bedroom

Thanks for this. It’s comforting knowing that we don’t have to rush to completely redecorate a room in 3 days. I’ve been working on my living room for months! Mostly trying to select upholstery for my chair and ottoman, and no one makes the marble end table I envision.
The bedroom took a big leap forward! The bed looks boutique hotel and the dresser's giving sexy, moody vibes. You all accomplished a lot in two days!👏🏻 I hope you get more time together to do the rest of the room. Their living room is gorg!

So contrary to Feng Shui, as you said, with bed against windows. Tough room for considering Feng Shui, though, with 2 doors, windows opposite, big closet doors, and bathroom wall. Energy stops everywhere. At least one can see the door from the bed, being in this position, and each person has easy bed entry access. … I find it more difficult to recognize change when folks start make-overs with messy rooms. I always think, “Of course it looks better; it’s clean.” … Kiva, congrats on your health. You look happier!

Oh no why didn’t he like the Vidga? I use it and found it quite handy with the amount of curtains you have though you might need more mounting hardware because those curtains are a bit heavy. I’m surprised you didn’t paint them black to match his dresser too but the overall makeover looks magnificent y’all did it ❤

I had a bedroom in my old house in almost the same blue. And I loved it. I did the color because I had a blue glass lamp that matched. Then when I was vacuuming I broke the lamp. But the bedroom stayed the same color. And the blue is much better than the brown. Have the bed in my guest bedroom up against the window. It won’t fit with the huge nightstands we have on any other wall. I didn’t realize it was bad Feng Shui. I have been in my house for three years. And the only window that has curtains is my kitchen. I have blinds on every window, they came with the house, and they work for me. I bought curtains for the master and guest bedroom. I just have never put them up. In the master bedroom I’m afraid my dogs will pull them down. They go in the bedroom if any person, other than my husband, goes in or out the door. And there’s two windows and not much wall left. So if I put up curtains they will be all over them.
I was a little leery about painting the blue without priming first but paint comes with primer already in them. Hey, Kiva, did you do the reno for his living room as well? It looked so familiar to me. Can you or he please, please, please tell me about his “after” couch?
