My son, at his school, at the history lesson received this material to watch from the teacher during online schooling. I was so surprised as I am an older subscriber of the chanel. Nice job, Romanians appreciate this.
Love knowing you all teach new generations your rich culture and history, a history appreciated by non Romanians also. Very much admire Romania for fighting and sacrificing so much to prevent your ancestors from being forced into islamic slavery and as a someone of european descent in american i greatly thank Romania for myself having the freedom to keep our Christian faith, if Romania didn't resist so stubbornly much of western civilization could of collapsed and many would be suffering under islam. I will be visiting your region again soon and look forward to seeing more of Romanian history, I wish the stone fortresses didn't get torn down under ottoman oppression in the 16th century but there is much else to see that was built after. lastly, It's nice seeing the Romanian arms industry profiting from being able to supply Ukraine with Nato and soviet ammunition, one of the few countries capable of this. Vă mulțumesc, Dumnezeu să te binecuvânteze, Pe curând.
Through the mercy of God - Mihai might say ... all Voievods knew that nothing ever happens outside God's will. That was their official introduction to their titles "I, Mihai, through the mercy of Lord, Ruller of Wallachia, of Ardeal and of Moldavia". But now we live under a democracy, as God's mercy excludes us the posibility of having totalitarian christian rullers protecting national interest like before ...
This shows also respect for the historic background, the reality on the field ... and, you, HistoryMarche, you deserve the greatest respect for your effort, competence and quality of your work here!
Heheh. I wonder what Hungarians and Germans have to say about it :P Most of the cities in Transylvania have three contemporary names, some even four. I love how "Gyulafehérvár" from the first episode switched into Alba Iulia in the following four. Maybe, because the Hungarian Báthory was replaced by a Romanian ruler. Or, pssst! Nobody will notice.

By the end you definitely notice a formula to MIhai's military mind. There's always a flank or a ditch or hidden artillery on the slopes. This dude is criminally underrated as a military tactician!
It does also tend to reflect on what unoriginal muppets most of the "experienced" commanders of the time were Anyone who studies Ancient & Classical Military histories frequently wants to savagely beat Medieval generals with a stick
This is well established in our history and literature! Our mountains, bushes, rivers, marshes and grass are our best allies against enemies, were appointed to his speeches!

Haha, yeah, hungarian and romanians...old battle stories. But this was the tumultous history, all these men faught for their power, wealth and maybe for their country. I am proud of Mihai and I think he was one of thr few genius comanders in Europe and had a lion hearth, but Romania was too little in the middle of too many powerful enemies. If it wouldnt have been spreaded around, with its provinces, that much, more united... maybe the history was another.
Thanks for this history lesson guys, finally someone did it right. We should have this doc in every romanian school. Keep up the good work, i am proud of you!

With all my dignity and respect I can say that I really appreciate that a foreign UA-camr made a video regarding Mihai Viteazul, a brave leader of Wallachia that had the opportunity to unite all Romanian principalities under one country. Desperate times needed desperate measures so he had to tax his people in order to fight for Wallachian independence and defeat the Ottomans. With my hand on my heart, I can say that I am proud to be called "Novac" just like the most loyal general of Mihai that was very competent and organized!

we have been forced to resist. When you want your own country so badly you'll do almost anything to keep it against so many waves of strong empires craving it for millenia. We have had to defend our lands against some of the toughest empires of our times, including the Roman empire, the Ottoman empire, and more recently the Soviet Union. The revolution of 1989 had been mostly the Soviet Union's doing which at that time have been an empire. Anyway, against such threats you need brave, wise, and intelligent rulers or else....

I have nothing to do with Wallachia or turkey except maybe for being a Muslim because I'm from Egypt yet I still rewatch this video over and over, what a masterpiece.

Mihai would have been destroyed at Giorgiu without the Hungarian help. Then the turncoat Mihai sold out to the Habsburgs and attacked Hungary. Similarly the turncoat Romanians attacked Hungary in WW1, again after WW1 and another turncoat act in WW2.
If Hungarians had kept their promise to send the troops Mihai would have ended the Turkish empire sooner instead of stopping in Bulgaria, but turncoat Batory wanted success for himself. In world war 1 we did not attack Hungary but eliberated Transilvania from Hungarian occupation and in world war 2 it was a German king Mihai who arrested maresal Antonescu who had no intention to change sides and paid the ultimate price, basically a coupe. However during ww2 after the 2nd Viena act when Romania and Hungary were allies of Germany Romanian troops gave half of the Transilvania back to Hungary but as soon as it happened Hungarian army slaughtered the Romanian villages which we will never forget. Fascinating historical presentation of a time and a place that I did not know anything about. Michael the Brave (and he deserves that title) won many battles that he should have lost, pulling a rabbit out of the hat more than once to turn the tide of battle. If he had not alienated all his allies and potential allies, he may have lived to complete his task of the unification of Romania. As it is, he did a remarkable job with what he had. No one he met in battle surpassed him as a field commander. It was a lack of men and resources alone that caused his final defeat. Great series! Kept my interest for the whole time, despite the plethora of unfamiliar names and places I had to keep up with.

In this instance, Vlad, even though he scared the shit out of the Ottomans, at historical scale he wasn't as big of a deal as his grandfather Mircea the Wise for instance, who freed Dobrogea. Also Vlad couldn't even be compared to his cousin, Voievod of Moldova, Steven the Great (notice our voievods have a nickname), who ruled for 47 years, had a big fight almost every year and only lost a couple of them in total. The difference between him and Mihai was that he was extremely good at diplomacy and (unlike Mihai) he never fought everybody in the same time, completely alone. After Mihai the Ottomans tried to wipe us completely many times but our Latin culture always prevailed, and we also had heroic voievods who managed to resist even without and army. For instance Constantin Brancoveanu was captured by the Ottomans and forced to watch all his 7 children and his wife being beheaded in front of him then he famously said something like: on my honor, I will not be a Turk until my head sits up there. And so it was, we never got to be Turks thank to his sacrifice.

He was a briliant general, yet he didn't die on the battlefield against the Turks, but he was betrayed and killed by Christians who were supposed to fight along his side against the Turks... I personally consider him the most important ruller of any Romanian pricipality of all times, because for the first time since Burebista, he managed (even briefly) to unify almost all the Dacian lands in a single country- he was even called "Malus Dacus" (bad Dacian) by his enemies. Anyway, he managed to do a lot of things in only 8 years of rulling, with such small resources both in manpower, weapons and money. As for the Romanians, they were always at the confluence of greater powers and empires interests, always heavily outnumbered and outgunned in most of the battles against Turks, Austro-Hungarians, Polish, Russians, Germans... Yet somehow they managed to survive... If you wanna watch a similar documentary about another Romanian true hero king - Vlad the Impaler, watch this: ua-cam.com/video/MY82EpsvbQ8/v-deo.html

Vlad's bloodline was a warrior bloodline. The Basarab bloodline gave numerous warrior princes. Wallachia was known for its warriors, this spirit being relevant still today with the southerners being much more conflict seeking, more temperamental, more jealous/envious, Moldova was the seat of intellectuals and the few warrior princes being related to the Basarab dynasty (Stephen the Great being Vlad's cousin) while Transylvania was known for its merchants. @@jimijimbow2830 well, after Mihai Wallachia fell under the Ottoman ruling... although we were never an Ottoman province like Hungary or Bulgaria, we still had to pay tribute... life conditions were never better for us until the independence war almost 300 years later, when the Ottomans were pushed out of the Balkans
@@aviaxis6261 come on man after that Vlad Drakul and this treacherous Mihay any other ruler would had just annihilated such a nation. You have to agree.
@@jimijimbow2830 Romanian history is much more complex than this... remember we are here for 3000 years...

Pretty much so. And 99% the times the western Europe promised help against the Eastern attacks on Europe, they never materialised.
@@ancaas7945 Exactly!
Like during the Crusades. If the Western powers focused with the Romans to do a common cause against Islam, then maybe the would have successfully defeated them. And the Kingdom of Jerusalem perhaps would have existed a bit longer.

There was definitely power in Vlad’s bloodline
Vlad's bloodline was a warrior bloodline. The Basarab bloodline gave numerous warrior princes. Wallachia was known for its warriors, this spirit being relevant still today with the southerners being much more conflict seeking, more temperamental, more jealous/envious, Moldova was the seat of intellectuals and the few warrior princes being related to the Basarab dynasty (Stephen the Great being Vlad's cousin) while Transylvania was known for its merchants. This format still applies today, albeit Moldova is less of an intellectual center, Bucharest managing to somehow even the odds in this regard. Still, roughly 2/3 of our major artists, writers and scientists either hailed from Moldova or were educated there.
Mihai was not really related to Vlad. He was not a Basarab.
@@alexwallachian7720 Depends. Most historians today seem to agree that Michael was the bastard son of Patrascu cel Bun, which was from the House of Draculesti, Vlad's branch of the Basarab dynasty.

Welcome to the european politics my friend. Same as today. The west prospers while the east takes all the hardships. This started since the gread divisation of the Church. Catholics vs Orthodox. It went on and on. To be honest the west states was making shit load of money trading with the ottomans so no need for war.
