Rule of thumb when cooking. Never dump grease down your drain. Always pour it into an empty can, let it cool down and harden then toss it in the trash.
Also, if you ever need to put oil down the drain, run cold water with it. This will help it to harden and wash down the drain instead of sticking to the piping.
When he said he didn't think it was going up the vent. All I could think of was the guy outside hosing out the other pipe and getting a gusher on his head from the roof vent. lol. Your killing me Steve, Stop It !
What about the backwards pitch to the drain line. Seems that if it’s not pitch downhill it’s more likely to clog back up again regardless of what’s in there.
I remember watching my mom drain the grease from cooking down the drain. My sisters when I was growing up kept plugging up the sink in the bathroom with hair and spit and toothpaste. Pretty smelly and slimy I used to gag when I cleaned the drain out. I really like that zip strip for pulling out clogs in the drain. Geez imagine if that drain was plugged with grease I wonder how bad those peoples arteries were getting plugged from eating that crap. Bacon grease....... YUM!
San tee turned upside down receiving the waste from both basins. Left basin drain doesn't have a smooth path to flow once it hits that sharp edge of the san tee. Another san tee turned on it's side past the trap. Someone installed that drain awfully low.
I had a sneaking suspicion, from the title alone, that it was grease buildup... That negative pitch sure didn't help matters, either. My grandfather was a plumber, sadly he passed away when I was 5 or 6 so I didn't get to learn much about the trade from him, but there are two things he taught me that have stuck with me for my whole lifetime: 1) never EVER dump grease down the drain, and 2) never EVER flush toilet paper into the septic tank. Our house is 45 years old, and we've never had a grease-clogged drain, nor have we ever had a septic tank issue, so I feel pretty confident that my grandfather knew what he was talking about. Our TP goes in the trash can, our cooking grease goes in an empty metal can until it congeals and we throw it out.
IF the horizontal drain was exposed under the cabinets, did you offer the service of cutting the sink vertical & setting the horizontal to a good slope ? - being there with the pipe cut anyway.
That looked weird the way the two drains were connected together. I always thought you have one pipe going straight down and the other come in from the side.
Steve, for digging glasses put a drop of liquid soap on your finger touch your thumb and rub on the lenses. Wipe off, do not use water, until clear. Works on bathroom mirrors.
Macgyver is in the house ..disconect the hot water supply from sink add hose to drain with grease clog.flush with hot water..and a helecopter hovering over in the mean time lol.
Just my point of view, but why not using a vacuum cleaner instead jetting water inside, there is a risk to clog it even more if there is a sharp elbow downstream
Hey Steve, you said if it was draining out of the vent you would know. Is that because it would just overflow (obviously) or is there some other way you would know this?
@@Mr70Cenzo Who said anything about forcing hot water?... He could simply unscrew the plug and use a small snake to remove grease from the pipe. That's what the plug is for. Then crystals could be used to remove grease from the trap. Easy peasy, no brutal force is necessary. In a long run, bacteria work best to keep the pipes clean.
@@MisterTwister88 Often small manual snake will work just fine to remove enough grease to make water run.
