This is one of the best "How To" videos I've ever seen on how to upgrade a laptop. Everything on how to update the BIOS, adding the SSD card, actual drive, and memory. Good video and simple instructions. Highly recommend this one.
This video was brilliant! My Nitro 5 was slightly different, only one slot for an NVMe so I put in a SATA instead but I followed your instructions to the letter and it went perfectly. More people need to support Acer for being most upgradeable and repairable laptop. All the parts have QR code to replace parts even the motherboard. Also 2 ram slots, 3 SSD slots makes it a keeper.

I have a Nitro 5 AN515-57 and I’ve replaced 2 SSDs and put in a 4TB (Kingston Fury, actually doing it right now) and a 2TB SSD and bought the pro version of MiniTool because of how easy it is to use AND how easy it is to do because of your instructions that allow even a tech moron such as myself to perform this task without a single issue. You are the best!

Man when I installed new RAM and a new M.2 SSD, I didn't unplug the battery. Surprisingly nothing bad happened. Many months down the line from those upgrades and my Nitro 5 still works perfectly fine.
Great video. I particularly liked the pressing the Power button to discharge capacitors - something often forgotten!. I can confirm that the Acer Nitro5 can take 64gb RAM - I have done upgrades. So sorry for the loss of Cathy😢

So sorry for your loss :( For the past few weeks have been “shopping” for a replacement laptop. As a storage hound this appears to be the best I have found in that respect 2x (m.2) and a 2.5 bay amazing. In my search for more space I’ve found 4tb notebook drives but at 15mm height do you if these will physically fit into this laptop. very complete videos, and I enjoy that they don’t include a dance track.

Wonderful video! Helped me install my 16 GB memory. One thing I noticed is that my Nitro 5's innards are arranged a tad different. Where you had two slots (PCI and Sata) I only have Sata. Our sata SSD slots are the same, but the location to slide in the cable is not in the same place (actually, could not even find that "port"). Thanks again

Very good instruction video! Others I found just would say "remover the cover snaps" and show like one and then cut to the next step. You showed the whole process. That let me know about how long and what to expect since I saw every step not just a quick clip

Can someone explain the need for the cloning part at the start? What are the dangers of not doing this??? I just want to add more ram and SSD. Sorry I'm not that clued up!
Because he wanted two 1 TB SSD/m.2 drive instead of the one 256gb (stock) m.2 drive. The clone is only used for operating system, boot up etc. He could have just added the 1TB mb drive and SSD but the customer wanted the free spot open for a future 1TB drive instead of the low storage stock HD. You could just add a new SSD then format it and use it with the existing stock HD which is the simplest solution.

So your video was very informative for upgrading which I will do. Yes clone disk used to be a free which I used on a desktop. hey can i just leave the 237 gb ssd that came with it and add another? i dont wanna do the whole cloning thing and im on a lower budget i just wanna stick a 600gb 2.5 ssd or 1tb in and install will that work like he did in the video if i leave the default one so they both work?

Hi. Good question. I've done alot of these, laptop upgrades. It's not always a good idea to add thermal pads in addition to the heat shield from the factory. I take each one on a case by case basis. In some situations I would use pads. Not on this one. I look at the overall picture, such as ventilation holes, proximity to fans, etc. I have not yet had any heat issues. Of course. Desktops are a different story. Lol. Thanks for watching. Dale

Crucial offers great ram sticks for an affordable price. Just make sure it matches the same type of ram you already have. It doesn’t have to be another 8GB stick as long as it’s the same specs

Hello sir, at 15:09 looks like the old SSD have a thermal pad on it, while the Adata doesn't at 15:48. Won't this cause a problem with the temperature?
@@rotteneldritch7037 yeah, I have dell inspiron n7110, the charger tip is awful, it broke but they replaced it cause it was 11 days till warranty expiration, I opened it up few times but luckily didn't break anything, it still works, it's 10 years old, I only upgraded from hdd to sdd in it, and it works decently now 😂 But when I go from nitro with nvme to sata3 sdd and other old components which were great at that moment, 2nd gen i7 and nvidia 525m 6gb of ddr3 ram, I just cant stand that kind of speed for anything
I bought the 2020 nitro 5 from bestbuy and I want to upgrade my current 8gb ram to 2 8gb sticks for 16 gb. Are there different size sticks of ram that only some are compatible with laptops? Is there a certain speed or size I need to buy? Plz help
What if after following your instructions my PC takes a very long time to boot up for the first time. ATM sitting about 5 mins waiting for it to do something. Fans and keyboard lights are working. What should I do?
Hi. Well a couple things, make ram is seated properly. Also make sure you are using same speed of ram in both slots, and 1.2 volts. Make sure you have a compatible m.2 nvme ssd. Whenever you change ram, first boot, or post can take a while during ram training.

well i got the same laptop in feb but showing me how to change stuff alot easyer then my last laptop as i will be upgrading mine soon good gaming laptop for the money
When upgrading the SSD, couldn't you just loosen the screw in the saddle so the SSD could still be lifted up and out once the anchor screw was removed. It looked like that would allow you to insert the new SSD and then slide the metal sheld into place, screw the SSC down and then re-tighten the saddle.

Hi. This model has 2.5 inch hdd bay inside. The cable is for adding a 2.5 inch hdd, or 2.5 inch sata ssd. The mounting caddy is inside. Dale

Very good video for new installers such as my self thought my drive was faulty but no I just forgot to partition the drive
The single and dual slot drive if you have one vacant why not just add instead of replace are they not part of the same drive?

No you don't need to clone anything. If you have an open slot, just add a drive.
No need to clone
Crucial offers great ram sticks for an affordable price. Just make sure it matches the same type of ram you already have. It doesn’t have to be another 8GB stick as long as it’s the same specs

Hello sir, at 15:09 looks like the old SSD have a thermal pad on it, while the Adata doesn't at 15:48. Won't this cause a problem with the temperature?

@@rotteneldritch7037 yeah, I have dell inspiron n7110, the charger tip is awful, it broke but they replaced it cause it was 11 days till warranty expiration, I opened it up few times but luckily didn't break anything, it still works, it's 10 years old, I only upgraded from hdd to sdd in it, and it works decently now 😂 But when I go from nitro with nvme to sata3 sdd and other old components which were great at that moment, 2nd gen i7 and nvidia 525m 6gb of ddr3 ram, I just cant stand that kind of speed for anything

I bought the 2020 nitro 5 from bestbuy and I want to upgrade my current 8gb ram to 2 8gb sticks for 16 gb. Are there different size sticks of ram that only some are compatible with laptops? Is there a certain speed or size I need to buy? Plz help
Hi. You will need DDR4 2400, 2666, 2933 or 3200mhz ram. DDR4 modules for laptops are 260 pin, 1.2 volt typically. Just depends on your budget. Dale

Hi. Well a couple things, make ram is seated properly. Also make sure you are using same speed of ram in both slots, and 1.2 volts. Make sure you have a compatible m.2 nvme ssd. Whenever you change ram, first boot, or post can take a while during ram training.
So is there a reason you couldn't just transfer the old ssd to the other slot?

When upgrading the SSD, couldn't you just loosen the screw in the saddle so the SSD could still be lifted up and out once the anchor screw was removed. It looked like that would allow you to insert the new SSD and then slide the metal sheld into place, screw the SSC down and then re-tighten the saddle.
