    If you are fortunate enough to live or visit Hawaii, even though you are a ha’ole, it’s about respect. Respect the land, respect the people and their culture, respect the Islands traditions and way of life.

      @email email it's context, calling somebody haole or popolo in Hawaii is about as racist as calling somebody white or black. Unless it's being used specifically to discriminate IE; "stupid haole/popolo", these aren't racial slurs.

      Hawai'i Pidgin is a creole language. Most Hawai'i residents do speak with a "Hawai'i accent" when speaking English. But Pidgin is not an "accent."

    😉: do you guys pay for things with sea shells?
    😲: wat brah!? like get lickenz!
    Then, they get home & tell their friends that they got beat up in Hawaii, & "Locals are so hostile toward visitors" .... Hmmm, okay. 🤔
    Realistically, MOST Locals (on Oahu) are friendly, helpful, and humble - we have a few bad ones too. However, a large % of the people on the Island are either visitors, out of state students, military families, transients, and people who moved to Hawaii. NONE of them are "Local", however they are doing MOST of the crimes you hear about. I know it don't change the fact that bad happens in Hawaii, just isn't always "the Locals" doing it!

    Haole does not mean breath it means foreigner

    • @UHProductions
      @UHProductions  6 років тому +7

      Ha - breath
      'A'ole - no
      Haole - without breath (in terms of greeting; foreigners shook hands)

    • @tiaregrace3821
      @tiaregrace3821 6 років тому +4

      "Many people have grown up to believe that the term haole comes from: hā (breath) ʻole (without). To add confusion to that even some Native Hawaiians have accepted this and in the wikipedia entry also mentions this. But it is an incorrect and superficial rendering of the word. The word "haole" does not mean "without breath". Any one who is familiar with the Hawaiian language, Hawaiian grammar and basic Austronesian linguistics knows that that word can not be broken apart in that way linguistically because 'ole can not be made to create an elison (slurred with the preceding word). 'Ole consists of four letters (' + o + l + e), begins with a consonant (') and the stress is on the 'o. Pau'ole (end-less) for example is never pronounced as "Paule" by manaleo or native speakers of Hawaiian. Without getting heavy into piliʻōlelo (Hawaiian grammar), elisons in Hawaiian are only created by two vowels and mostly occurs when a preceding definite article (ka/ke/nā) is followed by a noun that begins with a or e..."
