- Top Thrill Dragster is a steel accelerator roller coaster built by Intamin at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, United States. It was the sixteenth roller coaster built at the park since the Blue Streak in 1964. When built in 2003, it was the first full circuit roller coaster to exceed 400 feet (120 m) in height, and was the tallest roller coaster in the world, before being surpassed by Kingda Ka in May 2005. Top Thrill Dragster, along with Kingda Ka, are the only strata coasters in existence. It was the second hydraulically-launched roller coaster built by Intamin, following Xcelerator at Knott's Berry Farm. The tagline for Top Thrill Dragster is "Race for the Sky".
So worth it. I told myself years ago that I'd never ride it, but this time around back in August, I decided against that. I made sure it was the first ride I got on, and I have ZERO regrets!

I count the whole ride as one element, but it's my all time single favorite element on any coaster
Guys I have a little thing to point out. Surely Kingda Ka is bigger but it's only by thirty feet and six flaggs did that just to annoy Cedar Point and claim tallest coaster in the world. Also dragster has so much better theming and in a better location in the park with a smoother launch.

danthetechguru 1 they ripped off top thrill it was first and the lapbars are amazing on top thrill but kingda ka has over shoulder so the launch is rough as hell

@@Flufferssss kingda ka is not as smooth, and has an over the shoulder harness compared the the lapbar on top thrill dragster, also you get way less airtime on kingda ka then this

Wouldn't be so cool if Top Thrill Dragster had two tracks and was a racing coaster like Gemini? I mean, the theme is about racing but you're not racing anything! It would also make the ride line move a lot faster.

That was an LIM launch not Hydraulic. The hydraulic launchers would not hurt anything. It would be perfectly fine because it stored up energy within 45 seconds. I’m like Batman and robin where is it stored up energy and let it go in like a split-second causing brownouts.

I rode it 2 times same day as well as every one of the Roller Coasters at Cedar Point. For myself i enjoyed Millennium Force much more It has speed, height, G-forces and a super long ride. I really think Cedar Point is an awesome park to visit. We pulled our travel trailer up from Anniston Alabama, spent a 3 day weekend and had a fabulous time.

Is it ok to be really scared to go on this ride because 420 ft of free falling would give me a heart attack and i'm only 17
It fine my next door neighbor is in his 40s and he's to scared to go on
I rode this about 2 weeks ago and it's over before you know it. The scariest part is waiting for the lights to go green mind you I rode it at night.

***** When I ride it I find when you crest the top part of the hill and start going down I get butterflies but then it gets moving again and then you're back on the ground again before you know it.

This thing was so fast that I barely remember anything past the launch. All I remember is being hit with an ungodly amount of force and then it being over. Only got to ride it once but I'm hopefully goin back next summer. I live in NC so it's not like I can get on this whenever I want lol
If the customer likes rollbacks then maybe that is what you should have on that coaster.

I got 73 rides and I can say this it was the most intense ride in my life until it closed and now it’s 2nd most intense ride ever only behind project 305 which 3 rides and I almost blacked out on the 3rd ride so I understand why
So basically... "Kingda Ka Lite"...

after riding it like 6 times (once with a rollback!!), i've only ever looked to the side once at the crest.......and as terrifying as it sounds, is really so unbelievably breathtaking. i'd rather not look, though. i'm strangely scared of heights, and the thought alone scares the shit out of me.
I dont know why people complain so much about kingda ka, it's actually great if you wanna try top thrill dragster but you live closer to six flags great adventure.. Nobody has time to drive 10 Hours+ to ride a rollercoaster

i wouldn’t like to ride this only bc u have the bar as a grip if u don’t have the shoulder pads that have bars then i won’t ride bc i like to feel enclosed whilst dropping
Why the twist in the drop? Wouldn't it be better to just have a drop strait down? Seams like it's slowed down a bit by the twisting
I asked that too, but someone explained about the plunge and the damage it can do to ur heart dropping from that height and speed

TTD is a very great ride, but I did personally enjoy Kingda Ka a bit more, not because it's higher, but because of that extra camel back which is great :)
Still, not much difference between both and they're both seriously amazing. It's worth the wait!

Does anyone black out or gray out on this? I hear people all the time say they blacked out or grayed out on Intimidator 305 but never on this ride. Intimidator only goes 93 miles per hour.
Intimidator 305 is more twisty and jerky (not to jerky) compared to the smoothness on this.

What? Is it suddenly unsafe because it has a lap bar? Lap Bars are more comfortable, make the ride more enjoyable, and they're just as safe.

The problem is a tall guy like me (6'6) would worry about getting their head smack and perhaps decapitated from the downhill spiral because the support arms are so close to the train. Anybody know how far? I want to go on it badly.
