Vacuum brakes! Large ejector should be open when releasing brakes and closed when running, and the small ejector open. Reverser 45 and throttle around 80 and you will get over Shap. I did around 45 mph up from Penrith.
@@TinTin_57 It would be a point to give a warning that it IS vacuum brakes. I thought there were air brakes at first, as I didn't catch that they were Mk 1.
@ I’ll post again at the end of the stream. I presume they used Vacuum braked coaches on this scenario as there wasn’t any air braked stock for steam back around the period that this route is set in.
Pretty decent effort that TinTin, I had 49mph at Shap summit with 50% cut off. Happy to give you a little help with what things do on the controls but not sure how we would do that? Got the return run on my agenda as well!
Hi Tin Tin, I just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying your streams and videos! I'm having an absolute blast with the new route-it was like being a kid on Christmas morning on Tuesday. I'm finding the Class 87 much easier to drive than I expected, definitely far easier than the Class 101. The route is even better than I anticipated, and I already knew it was going to be fantastic. However, there's one issue I'm encountering: the neutral zones. I've driven the route three times now and have only seen two white marker boards-one on the way to Preston and another on the way back to Carlisle. I’ve never seen the black marker board. Somehow, though, I’ve managed to drive through all the neutral zones without any problems-maybe I've just been lucky and coasting through them each time! So my question is, how many neutral zones are there, and where exactly are they located? Also, aside from the marker boards, is there any other visual indicator on the map that shows where the neutral zones are, like larger cable masts or something similar? And regarding the boards, which one comes first-is it the white marker, followed by the black one? I can’t praise Just Trains enough for the incredible work they've done with this route. The only complaint I have is the lack of notification for these neutral zones. I think it would be great if Just Trains could include a small blue dot on the top-right HUD showing the signal aspect. I feel like this would be the perfect solution to improve the experience. I just hope they consider this suggestion. Apologies for the long comment, but I felt it was an important issue that’s been causing me some frustration. Your help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Congratulations on the success your channel is receiving-it's well deserved! Best wishes, Dave
Thanks mate. There are 5 sections, if you are heading north one is a couple of miles outside Preston, then just after the Morecambe turn, then just before oxenholme, then tebay, then immediately out of Penrith station. Last one is just before Carlisle. Always a black board first which warns you have 1 mile to run down before the while board and the section itself.
@@TinTin_57 Cheers Tin Tin, I wasn’t expecting such a quick response-thank you! That’s brilliant-I can enjoy the route now without the frustration of wondering where all the neutral zones are. I’m going to jump on right now and give it another go. Thanks so much for your help, really appreciate it! Best wishes, Dave
I managed first time with Scotsman to get over Shap, only at 30 mph though.
You got up there and over the other side mate! Thats the key ;-)

Been a while since I ran it and the tutorial doesn’t even mention the ejectors lol

Had to stop watching the live stream last night as I had to work so now re-watching it from where I left off, intrigued to see how you got on.
I won’t spoil it ha ha

@ I remembered when I got going but literally hadn’t driven one of the steam locos in quite a few months. Funny how you forget without practice 😂
Still darent try steam. Even on Peak Forest. I just stick loads of 101s on that route
