It should be noted that term "dragonmark" predates Dragonmarked Houses. It initially refered to earthen symbols that appear on face of Eberron, ranging in size from a human fist to coveing couple miles, being visible only from high above; these are now usually refered to as Prophecy marks and are one of main sources of information on Draconic Prophecy. They regenerate if damaged, and have some sort of magic to them; some giant eldritch machines found in Xen'drik are seemingly powered by Prophecy marks, which is intresting to many forces on Eberron. Relatively recently, shapes similar to those marks started to appear on various humanoids in Khorvaire; as dragons are not sure what to do with this, the draconic Conclave and Eyes of Chronepsis allowed the Chamber to take a more active role in the world outside Argonessen.

The dragon prophesy is more of a lot of branching paths as opposed to a linear history of what will be.
The dragon prophesy would have things like 'if a prince kills a king on midsummer's day, the the western church will fall', and there fore factions that want the western church to fall will try an implement the precondition
You then can string things together, as there may be another part that says, 'if the western church falls, the demon lord will free himself 300 years later', so that events that seem positive may have negative repurcussions.
Think of the factions as using this to play a great game of chess with each other, seeing several moves ahead and 100s of years in the future to try and outwit their opponents.
Personally think this is one of the coolest things about Eberron. Similar to the Eldar Farseers in warhammer 40k.

My group loved the Eberron Setting, when I initially pitched the idea. Then, when I talked about the Dragon Prophesy and Marks, they went bonkers. Now, I had already liftet the "restriction" on player race options - 'cause I liked Critical Role book's concept, "Even humans are considered exotic". Now I have a bunch of players wanting to play differing races, but now also wanted Dragonmarks.
So I thought, "The Needs of the Many, outweigh the Sourcebooks." I changed how the Marks work. The Houses and their respective bloodlines' Marks are the only heriditary ones. Anyone outside of the bloodline, named "Outborn", earned their Mark by enduring extreme physical or emotional trauma. My players got all excited 'bout traumatizing their PCs, whilst I cackle in delight. The suckers are practically doing my work for me. Add in the lore spice, by adding Kanon, "Upon earning their Mark, each Outborn hear, in their mind, a singular line of the Dragon Prophecy - the line represented by their Mark." Now I got spooky forshadowing in the works. Lovely!
Now, the Aberrant Mark, is much different and all the more dangerous. The Aberrant Mark, dear readers, can absorb other Marks into itself, upon slaying the Mark's bearer. Now I got Khyber-worhsipping cultists hunting Outborn, their skins covered in crimson red, stolen markings and very, VERY aware of the certain events foretold by the Dragon Prophecy.
Now, if that ain't a campaign writing itself I don't what is! >:3 Hats off to Eberron's creative team and to Jorphan "Ph is silent" for telling Eberron's lore in bite-chunks. My players appreciate being brought out to speed.

I don't play Dungeons and dragons but I'm really liking these videos. You've got a nice way of explaining things and DnD has some cool fluff.

In my game I have this fun thing where basically the hospitality Halfling dragon house is basically the Mafia. They have an expansive info network due to those friendly bartenders that you just can’t help but spill your secrets to. And they run every inn and tavern or own the building at least. Just a fun idea I liked having

House of Ghallanda. Hhmmm...🤔 I wonder if a Half-ling with this particular Dragonmark established a place such as The Continental found in the movie John Wick. Very sophisticated with a set of rules to abide by. That Would Be Awesome

What would stop Royal Bloodlines from combining with one or more Dragonmark houses through marriage? Thus their future generations would be both Royal and Dragonmarked?

Brent Ryan befor the last war, the kingdom of galifar had the korth edicts that prevented any dragonmarked heirs from holding land or being part of the aristocracy. But now that the war is over, these laws are still in place but no one to really enforce them. Queen Aurala is married to a half-elf who was a member of House Lyrandar and people say it’s just a marriage to get closer to the house

It cannot be said exactly what the Draconic Prophecy is, but it is essentially the record of causation. It governs what will happen after what. For mortal creatures, it appears in signs and omens, which can be translated into sets of vague conditions that are needed to happen to cause some other thing. A lot of folk in power would like to benefit from extensive understanding of the Prophecy, but only extremely long-lived creatures have the time to truly study it, like dragons and fiends. There is always a way for something to happen; if one would eliminate the posibility of all current conditions to cause, for example, unleashment of Tiamat, another set will appear; thus, it is necessary for fiends and dragons to continuously hunt for portents, either to find a new way for something to happen or to stall for more time until next conditions can be found and fulfilled in hopes that it will never happen at all.
