I can't recall how many Jay Leno videos I have seen, so so many excellent ones, but this is the first time I've felt I had to comment. I love Jay's enjoyment of things like Panhards and pre-55 Mopars, Bristols, and generally kind of off-beat vehicles, but I particularly love this one and its owner. Jay has shown immaculately restored Duesenbergs, also unbelievable unrestored cars, but this is not in any way authentic and yet is incredibly authentic in its vibe not only visually but reviving the whole hot rod ethos of the period they were not worried about any ideologies or purity, they wanted to make something cool out of the parts they had at hand. A perfectly restored classic rare vehicle may have more to do with access to money and knowledge. This has more to do with taste, artistic vision, and creativity. Thumbs up
The Titan revolving light has a no spark housing and would have been used where explosive materials might be in the air like grain, petrochemicals etc... cool piece. Nice rod. Cheers 🇨🇦
That truck is hilarious! Reminds me of when I worked on my uncle's farm & ranch and the place was littered with old trucks like this; many of which were still working trucks. Pity the original flathead engine was not retained; they have a special sound!
Well, as their neighbour, in Germany's defence, they have no speed limit on a lot of their highways. It is very important to have very safe and very reliable cars on the road. No matter how fast you're going, someone will always take you over going 50km faster. So, every part has to be up to spec.
I had an old Volkswagen Beetle, and changed the tires from bias-ply to radial. The road into the place where I changed the tires had a switchback, hard right-left-right. On the way in, I knew how much steering to give it. On the way out, it was completely different. It felt like it was glued to the road. Dramatic difference.
Very cool truck, and maybe it's just how the mic was set up, but it sounds like it leaves a trail of nuts and bolts bouncing down the road everywhere it goes. Also loved that old hook-style door latch dangling next to the driver's head - DOT approved no doubt! The more you look at a vehicle like this, the more interesting details you find.
It’s not that hard. Set aside engines and transmissions, just consider them big parts for now, everything else is just big legos. Start bolting things together - it’s how every car was ever built.
This truck is what America is all about...someone might ask "Why do you have such a vehicle, what possible purpose does it serve?" Your answer: It's what I wanted, and it makes me happy, that's all. Freedom come in many forms...this one of a kind truck is a wonderful example!
What a fantastic wagon, Keep the Range Rover, I'd have one of them if I had a garage big enough to keep it in. I doesn't look like it would enjoy a British winter outside
Today I was with the grandson (in his 70's?) of the original owner of that truck. He lives here in San Luis Obispo, CA. There were 3 other pickups similar to that one with the same signage on the side. They showed me a photo of one of them. Carissa Plains is about an hour from here.
I'm not a huge fan of rat rods, but I appreciate the attitude and spirit of the owner. I also appreciate that rat rods were originally a reaction to the extremely high cost of building "show quality" street rods or customs. I don't like the obscene prices that many old vehicles are commanding nowadays. Best wishes to Brett and his truck.
What a great truck! Love it! You never know what you're gonna get week-by-week on the garage! Thanks, Jay and crew for another entertaining episode! ✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦 P.S.; Coker would probably have the period-look radials for this puppy...
Ha Ha! This is like if Johnny Cash had written "One Piece at a time", about building a Junk Yard Tow Truck. A Junk Yard owner I knew as a kid had a real shop tow wagon like this. But she was a 1948 GMC COE, with a 400 Interceptor engine,(from a cop car) and a GM 3 speed 400 Turbomatic (from an ambulance) hooked directly to a GM rear. (out pf a Blue Bird Bus) All the tow stuff was newish, from the 1960's, He would wash it every week, then once a month, spray in down with crankcase oil from top to bottom. He surprisingly towed everything from wrecked tractor trailers, to motorcycles. Great shop, good prices, honest workers. Thank Uncle Jay!!
I got a picture of me with the one and only Gene Winfield back in I think It was February at the Autorama in Detroit he’s 94 years old really great guy 😊
Nice truck & great video! Jay is correct, I moved from the US to Portugal and car mods are forbidden. I recently found out I can't even go one tire size over on my car, if it didn't come that way then it is a big 'no'. Been working on cars since my pre-teens (50+yrs) and had I fully understood the severity this I may not have ever moved here.
Definitely not a Bugatti lol but very cool. Love the nostalgic and rusted-out look which gives it character. No worries or obsessing over scratches and dents either. Take this to a SEMA show and it would probably attract a crowd..
Awesome that..I love it..owner seems like a top bloke too..I’ve loved every single one of Jays episodes but this one is my favourite to date..really enjoyed watching this 👍👍
The smile on their face while driving like two kids in a candy store (same smile here). Best ever looking tow truck. Greetings from Norway -
Have you seen Matt's Off-road Recovery?

Getting that patina right is a real art. What a great job!
not a fan of rust...errr patina but this looks kinda cool.
Almost exactly like my 51 f2
Rat rod.
Mine has a 500 caddy and rear air ride.
More fun driving than my classic cars!!!
Lot of fun!!
There's probably not a bloke on this planet that wouldn't want to own that truck. It's wonderful... love it. Thanks Jay. John
The Titan revolving light has a no spark housing and would have been used where explosive materials might be in the air like grain, petrochemicals etc... cool piece. Nice rod. Cheers 🇨🇦
Its pretty loud, not only from the engine, but all the auxiliary stuff shaking around, VERY cool.
That truck is hilarious! Reminds me of when I worked on my uncle's farm & ranch and the place was littered with old trucks like this; many of which were still working trucks. Pity the original flathead engine was not retained; they have a special sound!
I had a 1949 Mercury 1 T and it always needed a valve job. 50 MPH was tops. Very smooth when first driven after the several valve jobs.
Yeah, a flathead Ford has such a unique voice. I think it's because the middle two cylinders on each side are siamesed into a single port.
That they do.
Jay's impression of Germans is priceless 😁
And it never gets old. Where's Ahhhhhnold?
You can always tell when Jay genuinely likes a vehicle! He is acting like a kid while driving that beast! 😂
The Airstream camper episode is my favorite. Jay owed somebody a favor?. Only explanation I can come up with.😅 so funny.

Definitely one of the coolest and original cars you’ve had on the show. Very well done!
I had an old Volkswagen Beetle, and changed the tires from bias-ply to radial. The road into the place where I changed the tires had a switchback, hard right-left-right. Pretty sure this thing is a rattle trap, not much sound dampening going on.
The smile and laugh from Jay when the hood not just opens, but 'rattles' open like there's nuts and bolts falling off everywhere, is worth a million!
I love the inside door latch. Thanks for showing us this rolling piece of history.
That checks off all the boxes of what I love in a cool vehicle. I just wish I had the skills to put something together. Great job.
Never too late to learn something new.
It’s not that hard. Set aside engines and transmissions, just consider them big parts for now, everything else is just big legos. Start bolting things together - it’s how every car was ever built.
I own a 1950 Ford F-6 Firetruck. I love driving it. Always fun!
The imagination and mechanical skill to bring off such a vehicle is something I wished I had.
What a great truck! Rat rod yes, but it's rolling art. Modern cars have all the latest technology, but frankly are boring. Love this stuff!
it could have played straight away in Spielberg's "Duel"
Jay having FAR more fun driving this than all the million dollar cars.
That was fun. He owns a rat rod and his own western town. Life goals accomplished! Thanks Jay👍👍😄
When Mr. Leno says something is hilarious that is a good thing. He really enjoyed this one and so did I. Thanks Jay & Brett!
Gotta love it. Boys and their toys. What a smile.
Love the pressed tin headliner.
Every second of B roll is just wonderful to watch, what a 110 percent legit ride
This truck is what America is all about...someone might ask "Why do you have such a vehicle, what
possible purpose does it serve?" Your answer: It's what I wanted, and it makes me happy, that's all.
Freedom come in many forms...this one of a kind truck is a wonderful example!
That interior is a work of art. The whole thing but I appreciate the beautiful colors of the cockpit.
Now there's a truck that should be made in to a Hot Wheels. Thanks Jay. 😁
What an amalgamation of inspired idiocy! I love it.
I love all your episodes especially your restoration blogs. And how you incorporate humor in your show too cause I also love your humor.
I love the screen door latch you can see over Jays left shoulder in some of the shots!!! Classic
What a fantastic wagon, Keep the Range Rover, I'd have one of them if I had a garage big enough to keep it in. I doesn't look like it would enjoy a British winter outside
I'm enjoying watching Jay age. I Will be So sad when he is gone.
The front axle where the bumper used to be - hilarious! 😅
Today I was with the grandson (in his 70's?) of the original owner of that truck. He lives here in San Luis Obispo, CA. There were 3 other pickups similar to that one with the same signage on the side. They showed me a photo of one of them. Carissa Plains is about an hour from here.
Dude looks like Bill Maher’s rugged younger brother
I was thinking Luke Duke stole cooters rat rod😂
I just love unusual, quirky stuff like this!
Now that’s a picture right there. Wow.
What a great truck! Love it! You never know what you're gonna get week-by-week on the garage! Thanks, Jay and crew for another entertaining episode! ✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
P.S.; Coker would probably have the period-look radials for this puppy...
I don't know if it's the truck or Jays comments but I had a smile on my face the whole video 😅
4K !! Oh yes! These cars deserve the best video quality. Thank you!! 🍻
What a great build! That truck would be welcome anywhere 😁
Another guy that knows the value of a good snap front shirt. Makes him alright in my book.
I saw something like this at Sturgis a few weeks ago. I love these rat rods.
The owner is one of the best guys jay has had. Awesome video
I'm surprised Jay hasn't built a rat rod out of all the leftovers from the many restorations his shop has done.
First priority of a car build is having fun. They accomplished that!
Hilarious! It would be impossible to drive this without a huge grin on your face! Thanks for sharing it.
"The back-up camera is a Brownie" -ba-boom-ching Hilarious. I wonder how many people caught that one, lol
I think Jay really liked driving that rod.looks good.
Ha Ha!

Thank Uncle Jay!!
Jay's German accent. 😂❤ Really not bad for a half Italian, half Scottish guy. 😊
Absolutely Awesome Smiles Per Mile!! Love That Driver’s Side Door Lock so the door doesn’t fling open. Great Video Thank You 🙏
You better smile when your driving a rusty Land Yacht.
That was Cool J thank you so much. And by the way. Thank you for coming to Laughlin my family and I really loved it. And my daughter says hello.
I love this thing to pieces, and I'd give a testicle to drive something like that in DC area.
This rod is absolutely perfect ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤love it so much
The taillights were first used on the 1937 Chevrolet. Then Chevy continued to use them on pickups into the early ‘50s. 23:09
I had to stop when they rolled out. That thing runs and drives and Jay is driving it!!!! Nice ride. I can't wait for the rest of this video.
love it, a work of genius and art through and through,if it looks right...
Another great video...keep 'em coming Jay!!
Great build. One the best cars on the show in a while says I
This is true recycling love the use of wat they found 🤙🏽
I love everything about it.
You don't have to worry about it getting scratched. Love all the lttle touches
I got a picture of me with the one and only Gene Winfield back in I think It was February at the Autorama in Detroit he’s 94 years old really great guy 😊
Thank you Mr. Leno for another great car review🙏🏽
What a beautiful rat rod - best I have ever seen!
Coolest vehicle on the show! Awesome aw
Nice truck & great video! Jay is correct, I moved from the US to Portugal and car mods are forbidden. The Return of Tow Mater. 👍
Lot of fun, and I'm sure the guy was a little nervous. But I think it's safe to say Jay might be aware of the virtues of roller rockers.
haha , he asked J is this the loudest he had ever driven. I smiled at this simplistic view. Doesn't he know what J owns ?
Definitely not a Bugatti lol but very cool. Love the nostalgic and rusted-out look which gives it character. No worries or obsessing over scratches and dents either. Take this to a SEMA show and it would probably attract a crowd..
Jay, a friend named Tom Whitiker built & raced a 427-powered "Funny Car" that he named the "Vega Magic"! That name worked all right for his races!
one of the very best guests on your show ,what a cool fella
Hehe, just looks like fun. Thanks Jay! 👍
That rat rod is Awesome!.. Love it! ❤️
Awesome that..I love it..owner seems like a top bloke too..I’ve loved every single one of Jays episodes but this one is my favourite to date..really enjoyed watching this 👍👍
Really neat truck. I would have kept the flathead, but Mr. Gregory had boxes to check. Commercial radials will look fine on the truck.
Just Cool and Old School !!!
Jay your a great car guy. Love see what your going to have next.
Christian Horner on Jay Leno... great!!! ;) Fantastic episode. Thanks JAY.
wow! jay officially the best car guy
Love it, love it, loooove it !
That car looks amazing. I wonder how long it takes to get it fully recharged.
Saludos desde mexico
What a beast! Love it!
I love it. It's perfect.
Can you imagine this thing coming into view in your rear view mirror late at night on a quiet back road 😱
Would be like a scene from Spielbergs "Duel"
You're looking great after the fire, Jay! 👍🏻
What a great looking truck!
That truck reminds me of the Johnny Cash song about building a car from parts he stole off the assembly line! Song title is One Piece at a Time!
😀Thank you for the video. Just fun
Jay really seemed to be enjoying himself in this one! Great show!
Jesus I love this thing.
Awesome to see Jay driving the kind of one off's I used to see on TST
Outstanding Jay for sure.
Biggest grin I've seen on your face Jay!😂
