    Aye! Bridget, for years I thought it was Scottish (me) and my wife (Irish) claimed it was hers but when I researched it?? found it was written by an Englishman for his sweet Rose of the tiny village of Allendale. Having lived about 20 miles from there (Brampton, Cumbria) I had to 'google it' my God, this beautiful song possess me, LoL! Love it! and here it is, sung by another REED,

      Words by Charles Jeffries, music Sidney Nelson about 1833. One of those songs people think is traditional.
