Endorphines Golden Master: My 2 Cents If you're playing DAWless, live, or looking for a simple yet effective add-on for your mixing setup, the Golden Master might be a great tool. It's inspired by the 90s "Mastering-Effect" Finalizer, which was used in many electronic music tracks. Endorphines Golden Master combines a 3-band EQ, a 3-band compressor with sidechain input, a limiter, and mid/side processing. You can switch individual bands on or off, allowing you to setup and focus on specific frequency ranges. Mid/side processing is especially useful if you want to achieve a wider sound in the upper mids and high frequencies without affecting the lower frequencies. For convenience, you can store up to three custom-made presets. Although its interface is straightforward and ideal for live settings, I wouldn't recommend it for a DAW-based studio, as there are better alternatives in the plugin world. That being said, I don't think that's the main purpose of this unit, either. If your goal is to achieve a better sound in live situations or when jamming with friends, the Golden Master is an affordable and portable solution for you. ▶ Subscribe: ua-cam.com/users/limbicbits ▶ Purchase Link Endorphines Ghost www.thomann.de/de/endorphin.es_golden_master_pedal.htm?offid=1&affid=397 ▶ Purchase Link Roland SH-4d www.thomann.de/intl/roland_sh_4d.htm?offid=1&affid=397 ▶ Book "Electronic Music Production": limbicbits.com/book-electronic-music-production/ ▶ Online shop with Patch Banks for Ambient, Techno, IDM and Electronica: limbicbits.com ▶ Follow me on Instagram: instagram.com/limbicbits
In my case, it's more of a hate-love. I like the flexibility of the SH-4d, but the preset management seems like it was developed in hell to punish musicians on earth.
@@SonicVibe Same here. Until I discovered that when using the same preset in two patterns you always overwrite it in that patter, too. Meaning that variations are impossible unless you store it under a different name. But there the fun doesn't stop. Did you try to setup personalised folders? But I rather stop here as it triggers my SH4d-PTSD. Such a shame... The SH4D is cool in so many ways.
@@limbicbits I think I get around it cause I don’t pattern out the pattern on the sequencer I just use mutes and record out the output I’ll save the patches sometimes if I’m working on a track. But I’ll just reset to factory 😂 if I get scrambled i’m really hoping for on the update. Something with the save maybe ability to have un quantized patterns not sure if it can sidechain I’m sure there is a few more I’m missing metronome count in etc and lmao on the SH-4d PTSD
Sounds so good, love the tracks! I have both of these units and love them both. Do you have soft through enabled on the GM? If not, how do you gain stage so there isn't a dangerous volume increase when bypassing? I found that when using soft through, it also lowers the volume which makes it hard to do an A/B comparison.
Actually, I've been doing the gain staging by listening. If a combo works, I've saved that as a preset. In a live context (that's where I see the Golden Master), I prefer a set-and-forget-setting and don't have to touch the unit again, other than for a quick Low-Kill-EQ.
@@limbicbits Thanks. I reached out to Endorphins and this is what they said: 1. Set the following levels on the pedal: volume at 3-5, threshold at 12, input gain at 7 (fully CCW). 2. Then set level on the input device so the VU meter will be almost red. A bit RED lining is also not bad if it happens not always - there is a reserve on the headroom.
3. Select the first preset as a starting point. Set the EQ and adjust the threshold from noon - > CCW.
Hi! I've been following your videos for quite a long time now. Wanted to ask if you have any Dub Techno releases since I noticed you're really into it : ) Cheers!
I've got some releases under an Alter Ego but nothing related to Dub Techno (yet). But I've started to focus again a bit more on producing, recently, so maybe I'll be able to upload some live sessions in 2025

In all fairness regarding that unit, I may have pushed it to more extreme settings here and there. It can be subtle, but it doesn’t achieve the precision of a dedicated multiband compressor. UA-cam compression also plays a role in the final output. I wouldn’t use it in a DAW setup as a mastering element, as there are better-sounding alternatives in software. However, it can be an affordable and useful solution for achieving a comparable volume level (with fewer dynamic peaks) to other productions during a DAWless concert in a club.
@@limbicbits Yeah I appreciate that you pushed it tho. Shows off the edges. Honestly, compression really is a get what you pay for type of analog circuit. I know having north of $100K in compressors. They Alpha is $18K and the Fairman TMC $25K so its not hard to do! Personally, if I was touring Dawless and wanted loud I would just use a hardware brick wall limiter, or possibly a Fatso EL7x if the tempo was slow enough for that one. PS UA-cam doesn't AFAK do any compression unless you are under the LUFS target threshold and the listener has Stable Volume switched on. Even then I think its a limiter? I always turn that off for videos like this.
@@millenniummastering Seems that you are way more into that topic than I am, so I better not spam the comment section with my estimations. I've noticed that UA-cam cuts off something, especially when it comes to low volume transients, and is also really notable when presenting extremer sounds such as ring mod, FM or the likes. I always thought it would have something to do with compression but maybe that's not the reason. Anyhow, for a portable DAWless solution for touring, did you check out the Instant Mastering Chain by DOCtron?
@@limbicbits Yeah I did hear Stimmings colab. Cool box. About what you would expect for the price point. When I play live I use the Oto Bebe Cherie. Its amazing how much that improves the horrible laptop converters in the Ableton Push Standalone. Very lush harmonic and rich.
