  • Otumfuo Osei Tutu was the Special Guest of Honour at the Morocco National Day celebration on Sunday July 30 2006, which also marks the seventh anniversary of King Mohammed's ascending the throne.
Other invited guests are Princes from Saudi Arabia; Yemen; Qatar and The Emirates.
King Mohammed sent down a plane to convey Otumfuo Osei Tutu and his retinue of 32, including Chiefs from Asanteman Council and Hornblowers.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu would be met on arrival at the Rabat Airport by Prince Moulay Rachid, Brother of King Mohammed, and Ghana's Ambassador to Morocco, Mr Kobena Annan.

I'm not a Ghanaian or Ashanti, but I am black and do feel a sense of pride when a Royal monarch from a powerful people "represent" and is given due respect. Morocco is not a "mickey mouse country". Their King can trace his lineage back to the prophet Muhammad.

I'm sotho of Southern Africa, but I'm happy to see their majesties, the ceremonial umbrella at display including all the king's attendants, the horns, the poets, the drummers etc. Tradition at its best from both countries. You are one big fool; you think the use of Umbrella is to protect our King from Rain, and excessive Sunshine? In our tradition and governance, the main purpose of Umbrella, is much deeper than protection from Rain and Sun.
In Asante, we use umbrella, to shield the Ruler from unseen spiritual forces which may want to do harm to, or challenge the sanctity of our King at any moment. When the King enters a Room, our beliefs is that the umbrella has swept all antagonizing, forces present; and neutralized whatever powers therein. It is only once this has been accomplished that the Kyinikyimfoɔ rolls the Umbrella, and keeps it by his side.
