Alot of it comes down to load profiling to mitigate rock/material spills from the trucks that helps alot.

When I first saw a wheel dozer being used in a mine it was exactly how they describe. First bit of truck spillage it was down there to clean it off. When the D10 was off pushing up a waste dump the wheel dozer was down to clean up the loading floor. That wheel dozer was all over the mine in no time. The D10 was good but just too slow for the fiddly bits.

A wheel dozer fills in the gap between a motor grader and a tracked dozer - it has more capacity than a motor grader that's closer to a tracked dozer, and it has more speed than a tracked dozer closer to a motor grader, it does the jobs that grader-like speed and dozer-like capacity are very useful or critical for.
On top of that, a tracked dozer is specialized for moving LARGE amounts of material, and a motor grader is specialized for surface finishing/finish grading - wheel dozers AREN'T specialized, they're more of a universal tool, and this is by design so that it can transit across a work site to fill in for machinery or free up specialized machinery from doing work that they're being wasted on(like using a tracked dozer to clean up a truck dump when you could have it doing serious work in the cut, or like using a motor grader to clear some spillage when it could be somewhere else finish grading a new road - a wheel dozers does these jobs and does it better than the other 2).
As far as specific jobs, they're exactly what he described in this video; spillage cleanup, truck fill cleanup by a shovel, establishing berms, etc.
