    Hei Tom! Good video as usual. Pleased you stressed the dangers and pitfalls of doing this incorrectly. The most difficult part seems to be to avoid tilting to maintain pressure on the inside edge of the uphill ski. As you say the weighted release is a great drill to start off, but sensing the angulation is really difficult. One really needs a mate to video it in order to see if the angulation is correct. Kiitos!

      Hi, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Yes, turning left on your left ski is indeed the tricky part. I think that shooting video is among the most important things to do. Not only self coaching but also able to share it here at the internet and UA-cam for feedback.
      Wow, thanks for watching my Dire Straits video. There are a couple more on my channel from 10y ago. Mark Knopfler is one of my all time hero rock stars. Not only his guitar playing but also his singing and songwriting. And productions. Versatile and inspiring. If a song works on an acoustic guitar it is good. I also enjoy just strumming my acoustic and singing. Yes, songs of his are usually playing in my head when Im skiing. Hopefully we will meet some day and ski and play guitar :)
      Cheers, Tom

    Many skiers new to one ski drills bank to make the outside edge turn. The best skiers show very little difference as to which ski they balance on. They can use either ski independently or together.

      Hi, thank you for watching. Not entirely sure what you are asking. If you are carving on one ski like in these drills then your leg is going to be extended all the time. So you stand weighted on that leg through out the whole turn and transition. You turn by vaulting from one side to the other. I have not really thought of manipulating the CoM in any way. There is an element of cross over more when you are turning on your inside ski but the idea is to try to make turning in both directions as similar as possible so make the turn on the outside leg as identical to the one on the inside leg. Makes sense? Cheers, T

  • @puregsr

    I could kind of ski one-legged already, although I have to make huge traverses. Now that I sprained my left knee and going to Whistler in a week, I may have to just ski one-legged anyway. Thinking about just putting a super short ski (110) or snowblade on my left leg, that would be super weird-looking I'm sure. Maybe that's a bad idea.

    Maybe I missed the point in the video. But why is carving on one ski helpful? If one is able to carve on ski, is the person going to carve better with two skis? Thanks.

    • @Triggerboy62
      @Triggerboy62  2 роки тому +4

      No, maybe I was not clear enough. Carving on one ski is not only helpful in the sense that it enhances your balancing skills, makes you more versatile and you will be able to ski with more confidence. Guys like Bode Miller skied down a downhill race track on one ski after loosing a ski halfway through. I think that if you learn how to carve on one ski you will definitely become a better skier.

      @@Triggerboy62 Thanks for the clarification!
      I found your videos really helpful. Not long ago, I finally understood what you meant by “tipping through inside leg and balancing on the outside ski”. It’s weird sensation at first. However, when I really tipped the inside leg (combined with counter), my outside ski engaged almost instantly and was able to achieve high edge angles. I may start to practice on ski carving when I am more proficient in carving with two skis.
      Thanks again!

      @@xiaoliuwu8539 that sounds great. Yes, no rush to carve on one ski. But do steps one and two in this tutorial. They are great carving drills not only as on ski carving drills. What does this drill (skiing one-leg) help? Is it for better edge control?

    • @Triggerboy62
      @Triggerboy62  2 роки тому +1

      It is good for many things. Among others also edge control. Edge control and balance. How to balance over the outside and the inside ski. How to stay upright and balanced while turning balancing over just one edge. The inside edge is the more difficult one but also balancing over the outside is a big challenge. If you cannot do it then you are not using proper balancing movements. Being able to balance over the outside ski through out the whole turn is already quite difficult and something everyone should be able to master.

    • @Triggerboy62
      @Triggerboy62  Рік тому +1

      Thank you so much for watching and getting back to me with such a brilliant comment. Too bad the upsides were not clearly explained and expressed. One upside is that it is proof of you being an exceptionally good skier and should raise eyebrows and create admire among other skiers. If that is good or bad I let you decide since it can go either way depending on how condemning your are of narcissism ;) . An other more valid upside is that balancing over your inside ski Little Toe Edge is a difficult skill but can be trained and mastered resulting in overall better balancing skills while skiing and also comes to advantage in recovery situations. Balance aside, how does carving on outside edge improve one's technique?

    • @Triggerboy62
      @Triggerboy62  Рік тому +1

      Good question. Carving is to a big extent leaning into the turn trusting turnforces to kick in and put you back in balance. So it is based on trust. This is one thing that turning on your inside ski is good for.

      It is creepy uncomfortable to change balance habits from outside ski to inside ski. If you can balance exclusively on the outside ski that is a prerequisite to attempting inside ski balance. From there hangars (white pass turns) transition your passage to transweighttransfer exercises. Don't forget to master your hop turn drills first as well. You really need that kind of agility.
