Good observation 😊 It’s very difficult to actually bring your palm out first, but it’s good to think of it that way to ensure you are finishing your pull.
The high-elbow catch not only exposes the palm and forearm to more water, it helps to engage the lats which happen to be the largest muscle group in the upper body. If you don't feel them working hard, then you may not be doing it right.
I have problem with that. I really try to have high elbow catch and i think i am succeeding but when applying power i only feel my shoulders working. I also try to think that i am pulling myself through the water and not just pulling water. Maybe it has to something with rotation
Not going to agree with you about the straight arm pull. It is more powerful than the bent arm pull, but the cost is that it is not sustainable. The windmill type pull is used for the men's 50 meter sprint. Most of the women do not have the muscles to be able to be able to use it. Just about all the elite swimmers will use it for the last 5 to 10 meters of just about any distance freestyle event.

You're not pulling water you're pulling your body through the water.Thats the wright way to think about it.
@@NVQ-y4g that’s a good way to think about it,
Some like it, some don’t, but great comment 😊
Love it❤

@@antoniodusper8755 or with the full extention?
To acheive a high elbow recovery doesn't the elbow have to come out of water first?
Not necessarily,
Finish the pull first, all the way to the back & then into your high elbow recovery 😊
Hmm. how can your palm exit the water before your elbow??
sick
But you use straight arms when you do 50 free right?
Yes, your pull will be a lot more inclined towards straight arm when sprinting 😊
I didn't know Brüno was so much into swimming.
I hurt my wrists a lot.
I don't do any of these I have a pretty good stroke
Great work 🎉❤
