  • The urea cycle is used to get rid of ammonia from the body. IT goes through several intermediates that you will learn from this video by certain enzymes. Ammonia has to be transported from the myocytes to the liver because the muscles cannot take part in the urea cycle. This is done by turning it into alanine which can travel in the blood and end up in the liver. Hyperammonemia is a condition of too much ammonia in the blood. This causes cerebral edema and various other symptoms. The video also talks about treatments for hyperammonemia.
