Greenkeeping is such an underrated industry. It really is a science. Wish us golfers would start giving them the respect they deserve. Great video Dan and very informative and thanks to Rob for taking the time out his undoubtedly busy schedule for doing it.
My son is an apprentice green keeper and this type of content is so interesting, and it’s a great video. Brilliant to see how a course is managed and set up from general play to tournament standard.
Wow that's impressive how quick they got the course prepared. Superintendents never get the credit they deserve. Like seeing all perspectives of the golf industry.
Great to see you recognising the course teams that work so hard under a lot of pressure to maintain a golf course to a high standard! Another excellent vlog. Paul will hopefully be everyone’s Hero soon!........No pressure 😥😀
Great video Dan, extremely informative and interesting! Looking forward to watching the coverage on TV here in South Africa. All the best to you and Paul. Give it horns!
Great to see Forest of Arden back on the European Tour circuit. I have have many happy memories of working there with Rob from 2000- 2005. He had a bit more hair back then though!
This should be mandatory viewing for anyone with a private course membership. Half the complaining would disappear ! I play at a course in Rhode Island, USA, we have similar issues with grasses, (bent, Poa) watering, etc. and several weeks of dew points in the mid 70's and temps in the low 90's (F) to make things even harder on our staff. Great video! Thanks!
Great insight - have played this course many times but learnt so much about it that I would have never known from this video - great work! Hope you do one on the Brabazon when they visit in August.
Great video Dan, one for us greenkeepers for a change, not many people understand how golf courses are maintained and have little sympathy when it's not perfect everyday!
Great insight into what the green keepers can do to change how the course plays. Good luck to Paul in the event it would be good to hear his views in a video post event.
Great video Dan, some fascinating insights. Having spent 2 school summers `78 and `79 working as a greenkeeper (helper), at Torquay Golf Club, I know it is is more than just raking bunkers and cutting the rough around trees (although that‘s all I was allowed to do - luckily, for the members). Thanks for speaking up for (my fellow), greenkeepers! 😉
Great video. I found the interview really interesting on what it takes to get the course to that standard. I was surprised at the work required to maintain the bunkers. Beautifully shot and edited too. Thank you!
I remember those slopes on the greens get in the wrong place and it could be a deadly 3 putt on your card, just shows you how much work has to be done to get the course ready and at short notice as well, it looks in great condition, great vlog as always.
Great video yet again Dan. The quality has improved hugely of late. Only small suggestion for the interview with Rob is to maybe use a tripod, so that the camera is perfectly still and zoom out slightly. Beautiful surroundings, so best to see a bit more of the background and cut him off just above the belt rather than the chest.
Very informative video Dan, thanks for the inside look at greens keeping. I’ve been fortunate to play a few times on courses set up for PGA events in the States. Big differences I noticed were the fairways and the bunkers. The fairways were very firm, the ball rolled a long way and it allowed me to hit short irons in a lot more often than the soft fairways I usually deal with. Also, the ball rarely stopped on a downhill lie on the fairway. The bunkers were a dream to play out of, much easier to pop the ball out of with spin to get a shot close to the pin from and you almost always got a good lie in them. Hope things go well for you and Paul at the tournament.
Enjoyed that. How about doing occasional series looking at greenkeepers including what their job encompasses, equipment used, what they like golfers to do and why (& what they hate 😁), the science behind it, how they solve problems etc. Could be quite interesting looking at how different courses throw up different problems. Nice work Dan.
As a green keeper, this is a great insight into what goes on when preparing a golf course. Fantastic video hendo. Good luck to Terry, and happy birthday 🎂
Another good video Dan, I was lucky enough to play the Arden course twice last year on a golf society tour really enjoyed it. Great insight to what they have to do and in such a short time.
Great to be able to listen to someone who knows his job and how much work the green staff do,and in such a short period of time keep them videos coming dan and good luck to you and your bro
Hi dan, hope you liked the course , All the team have really pulled together with guidance from rob, it’s been a pleasure to get this on, hope you all enjoy it, I’m deputy head on there working under rob and adam , can’t wait to start,
Great video Dan, I’m really enjoying the lead up videos with your bro and this was refreshingly different content. I didn’t realise how much went into maintaining such a high end course, green fees seem kinds of cheap after watching this!
my friend lives on the estate we walk his dogs around there , those greenkeepers are always working their socks off to keep the standards right at the top . keep up the good work rob and the crew
Great video. New series should be talking to course managers and maintenance teams of all levels from european tour to the local course 10minute videos
Thanks for the exclusive look at the course preparation, Dan! For the tournament, will there be spectators, including perhaps Lee to film Paul's rounds from outside the ropes?
Absolutely love the Arden course even more so as its only a 20 minute drive. I believe when the 9th tee box is behind the water that it was voted one of if not the toughest tee shot on the european tour by the pros. 🏌️♂️
Very interesting video. The amount of preparation and the specificity of the requirements is quite demanding. This gentleman did a great job of explaining.
Fascinating stuff as always, Dan. New appreciation for these guys. On a related note, more courses with finishing par 3s like of course here, Torquay, Greenbrier, etc the better. Always liked that, or an opening par 3 even, rarer as the latter is.
The Arden is a great Parkland course, especially early mornings when the deer are roaming around the back 9 in the mist, it's very atmospheric. But that tee shot across the lake on the 18th is a bitch!
I was superintendent in China for 12 yrs until last December. Managed bent, Bermuda, paspalum, Kentucky blue, ryes and zoysia. Worked in temperatures blazing hot, and freezing cold up in north east china.
Amazing the difference in what the pros play on vs us hackers. I had the opportunity to play a Senior US Open venue before and after set up for that event and it was incredible how much different and more difficult it was. BTW... it was Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento where they played the 2015 Tournament
Very interesting how the Tour sets up a course for play...quite different from the daily playing conditions at a normal country club. It’s always interesting to watch just how much roll in the fairways the pros get! Hate to say it Dan..but I feel like the Greens Superintendent is the most important person at a club 😱....Belated Happy Birthday to you brother Paul!!
Sooooooo.... the pros are literally playing in perfect "hand-picked" conditions? The tour decides how long the fairway/rough is, the cut of the fairway, the firmness of the greens, firmness of the teebox, firmness of the bunkers b/c players dont like buried balls??? Why do I ever feel bad about moving my ball to a patch of grass to hit?!?!?! I'm thinking "play it as it lies" should be removed for any golfer/tournament not on the main tours. Great insight. Thanks #GetUpDan.
Many thanks Dan. Your point about difference between your college vs. pro-event course condition was interesting. Aside from the marketing of golf beauty, isn't it a bit nonsensical to set up course (in fantastic condition) to suit pro's play? Aren't they supposed to be better than club players, who have to deal with poor lies, soggy tee boxes, and inconsistent greens. Aside from the narrower fairways, the course sounds like it would be paradise for your average club golfer. Yes event courses are much harder but it all seems a bit precious. The difference between representative level cricket pitches and club cricket pitches (goat tracks), also always amazed me.
Really interesting video, Dan. Sounds like a lot of hard work. Did you film on-course for an upcoming video or was it all business getting Paul ready for the tournament?
I can help answer that for you, I'm a Greenkeeper... You need a very keen eye keeping an eye on every change in the quality of the sward of the grass on the greens and surrounds...Luckily most pests stay away due to the sandy nature of the greens through regular top dressing and the way the greens are built... However you can occasionally get pests in the greens but not too often thankfully... We try to limit all hazardous chemical usage for health and environmental reasons, we will only spray pesticides in an emergency and more and more chemicals are now getting banned... Hope this helps your query.. 😃👍🏻
Cracking course, the Arden. I live nearby and play it regularly. Always enjoyable to watch the pros on tv playing a course you’re familiar with.
Greenkeeping is such an underrated industry. It really is a science. Wish us golfers would start giving them the respect they deserve. Great video Dan and very informative and thanks to Rob for taking the time out his undoubtedly busy schedule for doing it.
Dan, thanks for an enlightening vlog. Thanks also to Rob Rosen for letting you do this vlog.
This was great. Greens keepers are legends for what they do.
My son is an apprentice green keeper and this type of content is so interesting, and it’s a great video. Brilliant to see how a course is managed and set up from general play to tournament standard.
Very interesting. Great work of all the green keepers there. 👍🏼 thank for giving us the inside of this part of our lovely game.
Wow that's impressive how quick they got the course prepared. Superintendents never get the credit they deserve. Like seeing all perspectives of the golf industry.

Thanks for that one Dan. All green staff at all golf clubs do amazing work for us and anything you can do to shed some light on that is welcome.
Absolutely loved this! These videos leading up to the English Open have been brilliant, great insight to the pro game!
Thanks Erik 👍
Very interesting video dan so good to see the amount of work and effort put into a course preparing on a European tour event👌🏻
What a great insight in to the hard work green staff go through to hold a top tier tournament

Played both course at Forest of Arden in 2017 - what a great place and the Arden is an epic track!

That's so interesting... Rob seems a top bloke and is very good at talking about he's job.. Great vlog Dan would love to visit there
Great video and content Dan, as a former Greenskeeper and now a PGA Pro I loved this video.
Congratulations the course looks amazing.
That was an awesome video! It’s so fascinating to hear how a golf course is prepared and all of the work that goes into it
Great insight into what the green keepers can do to change how the course plays. Good luck to Paul in the event it would be good to hear his views in a video post event.

Had the pleasure of playing there a few times, probably my favourite course in the UK along with Wentworths East course.
Great vid. More of the same please. I've seen a million club reviews and they have got dull, this is much more interesting.
Enjoyed that, very interesting. Good luck with the tournament, Forest of Arden is a great parkland course I have enjoyed playing it several times
This is gold! Definitely do The Belfry in a few weeks too.
Very insightful. You are creating some excellent content at the moment.

Dan Hendriksen Golf will do, 👍
Interesting video. Lucky enough to have played at FoA. Looking forward to seeing how I should have played it!
Good insight Dan and nice to se Paul hitting some nice shots in the background - looking forward to the event!!
Very interesting listening to Rob, looks like he has the course in great shape. Looking forward to the tournament.
Fascinating stuff Dan. I knew there was a lot involved to prep a course for a tournament but wow not this much!

Unfortunately no spectators, I’m going to try and get away with filming a few bits, but not sure what I’m allowed to do
These vlogs are just getting better and better 👌
Thanks Neil 👍
great video Dan, real insight into what they need to go through to put on a European Tour event, thanks mate
Yeah a lot goes into it Jay, thanks for watching 👍
Seriously impressive production Dan, just amazing camera work again Dan by whoever it was and great editing. Top top stuff Dan

This was informative!

Great idea to film this. Something a bit different 😀
