The Best Wah-Wah I Have Ever Had

- A long time ago, in 1975, a friend of mine named Bert Wills came over to the house for a little jam; / bertwillsmusic . Well, he happened to bring over what I would find as the best sounding wah-wah I had ever played. It was an old Cry Baby in a white shell. That sound has stuck in my head for all these years and now I have finally found the wah-wah with the sound I heard that day. Jerry Dietrich (Detrick_fx) makes these and he said he put it up against his '60's Clyde McCoy Picture wah and it was almost identical. You be the judge. I love mine.

@@millstap Have you ever looked into JImi Hendrix's picking technique? He does this weird thing he learned from Curtis Mayfield (one of my all time favorite artists!) where his thumb is hitting the strings also, kind of like a quiet pinch harmonic. There is a UA-cam video that describes it better.
@@JDStone20 I have not looked into it. I will. Jimi was all about harmonics. I've recently been blown away by his version of Are You Experienced - Anthology Version on West Coast Seattle Boy. Listen to that. There are a few places when his getting his awesome feedback (to whatever pitch he is looking for, amazing!) But, there is one place in particular where he hits the harmonics at 2:44 that drives me crazy. Also at 2:27 but 2:44 is the cool one. I know that sound and have done it by accident but you need to have that massive Marshall power to get it to sound like he does. Listen to that whole song. It blows me away every time I listen to what he is doing with the melody.
@@millstap Ok awesome, I will check it out
@@millstap oh wow, he is doing the harmonic picking thing even when muting the stings, you can here the difference, it is crazy sounding. I haven't really listened to this version before, but you can hear him doing it all through this song. Amazing, thank you for telling me about this song
G’day Millzee! I haven’t received any notifications of your posts bro!
Hey Shane, that's probably because I haven't really been posting anything lately. It's time for me to move on to another stage in life. I was thinking about you guys down under recently because I received a 1970 Uni-Vibe from Red Slim in Sydney. My friend purchased it from him and it was shipped to me so another person could hand carry it to Argentina. It was a lot of fun playing with it even though it needed a little work and I don't think I got the full experience of what it can do. Now I want an original one, but one that is in working order and needs no refurbishing or very little. Those things are magic and the secret to Jimi's tone. I didn't realize how much effect it has on the tone of your guitar when it is cancel mode. The preamp was on any time Jimi had it in his pedal chain. It makes a big difference in the overall sound. Very powerful. I still don't understand yet why the current vibe makers haven't been able to copy it perfectly. I suspect it has to do with the components that just are not available nowadays.
What's your setting on your bassman??
It never changes, into Bright Channel Volume on 3 (Normal channel is on 3 too, it makes a difference), Treble 7, Bass 1-15/16, Mid 4-3/4, Presence 8-1/4.
Cool tone! Demo it straight in the amp/amps, there is where the chaff are separated from the wheat. 👍
Demo sounds great as is to me. Great work @Millstap - thanks for sharing. Killer sounding wah.
Good morning it's a 2019 Custom Shop Funky Vibe
Okay. Let me know how you want to proceed with the repair.
Good morning, I'm ready if you can send me repair pricing method of payment and were to send, I'll get it done thanks again!
@@darrystephen3703 Check your Instagram direct message. I give you the pricing and I will add my shipping address. I use PayPay so I will send an invoice when it is fixed.
What's your preferred wah and fuzz order my man?
It is always fuzz before wah. I gave up a long time ago trying to mess with buffers just to be able to put the wah first. They might work a little but they still change the way the wah sweep acts, at least every time I've tried it. It sounds just fine like this to me. It's not worth the bother to "do it like Jimi." In fact, I think I am the exact opposite of Jimi's pedal order. My pedal order is: Sabbadius 68 Funky-Vibe, Texas Fuzz (by Wes Jeans), Sabbadius Maui/Rainbow fuzz, Detrick wah-wah, Fulltone Spa-Trem (preamp only and on most of the time), Area 51 Alienist (Rangemaster Treble Boost type), Fulltone OCD V1.4 (on most of the time at 18VDC and as clean as I can get it, LP mode), MXR Carbon Copy, Framptone 3 Banger Amp Switcher, channel one to a 1963 Fender Reverb unit to the Bassman, and channel two to a 1964 Super Reverb.
@@millstapWould love to see you break this down in a future video!👍🏻
How much?

Any Wah will sound good on your Bassman . Venus Witch FX here on YT (Shorts)
To an extent, but I have several wah-wahs and none of them have "it" like this one.
Say what?
What'd you say?😃
