- In 1972, Shirley Chisholm ran for president of the United States of America as a Democrat. She didn't win, but this was not the beginning or the end of her career in politics. She held a congressional seat in the New York delegation for decades, and Shirley was a pioneer on many fronts. Today we'll learn about her life, her career, and her legacy.

I am a pretty much white Ukrainian and I don't even live in the US, but I love this series so much. I've got American studies in my uni, so the CrashCourse episodes broaden my knowledge on the topic.
I respect you all guys so much. Even though you are talking about Black Americans, it is the sort of knowledge that would be useful to anyone: how one fights for their rights, how one doesn't give up and how one is proud of their heritage.

Crash course's black American history has inspired me to research other nations' histories. it would be helpful and wonderful if crash course one day covered Chinese and indigenous histories too because they've experienced much conflict as well.
A series on native american history would be really intresting. Espacially since you seldom hear their perspective.
This crash course gives me hope for the future of humanity.
It shows that even with all the setbacks, financial crises, supreme court decisions, etc. if people keep on fighting and given enough time change for the better is possible and will happen.
Looking forward to see the first black woman in the oval office.

As a graduate student at the University of Texas, I was doing research in Exercise Physiology. One of the people involved in the research was a middle distance/cross country runner who went on to graduate studies at Columbia University. She became a documentarian. Shola Lynch went on to produce and direct Chisholm 72, Unbought Unbossed. A fantastic documentary.

Yep the Schools/Media don't often point out the positive truth. There have been alot of great scientists, medical scientists, and specialists that have contributed to the USA. Thomas Sowell points out alot of good ideas alot of people don't want to hear. Good to hear a few sides of the story.
